Was hoping to see Nolan make the bump - but nice interview with Rahl. Good spirit from him and something you don't really get much in other series, praise for other teams! Glad to see Legg make it as well. Looking pretty fearless with her first wall slap and not letting out, and again with chasing the car's oversteer.

This is why guaranteed spots at The 500 is a HORRIBLE idea. A driver who finished 1st and 2nd in the last 2 500s nearly missed the show and Rahal was almost bumped 2 straight years. The drama of Bump Day would never be the same with guaranteed spots.

Well someone should have told Tony George at the Beginning of 1996 to immediately stop the plans for the 25/8 rule. I know that CART/IMS didn’t see eye to eye but Tony George shouldn’t have thrown his weight around and put that rule in place. It make the IRL look bush league and like a “pay to play” political corruption thing. I know their was lots of people who have still tired to justify it like CART had the chance to run 8 cars and probably could have swept the field and owned the whole race. Tony George hopefully realizes that he made an emotional decision that has still made indycar in a shell of its former self and people still see it as still rather bush league but I think NASCAR has been bush league in the recent years now a days.

Neither is better. They’re two ENTIRELY different sports that can be enjoyed equally if you’re looking for the right qualities. I’ve been hearing this same argument for over 30 years. Bernie made it worse when he let his ego get out of hand when Mansell left F1 suddenly. One F1 team has more financial resources than the entire indycar series, not just the teams, the ENTIRE series. It’s two completely different philosophies, but two completely different series’ that can be enjoyed equally by us peasants. I’ve been to both live and they’re both extremely exciting, even if for different reasons. One’s a straight up spec series that emphasizes driver/team setting up driver/team to eek out MM’s of performance. The other has the same but, the emphasis is on engineering and pushing/recreating the envelope. Both are at the very pinnacle of human ability

@@jamesdeangelo4580 Your reply shows You have some knowledge about AJ Foyt and other great racing drivers too, which @rickarra1833; does not have, thus improperly compared Kyle Larson to AJ Foyt. Lyle Larson may become a very well known, accomplished Indy racer too. He already has a highly significant accomplishment with P2 as a Rookie ! 🙂 Along with his great NASCAR, Sprint car and other racing. He is certainly extremely talented, well developed and young still. Also Certainly Indy, F1, open wheel, along with NASCAR, are very different today compared with the vehicles, innovations still in 1960's, and 1970's. Indy began major restrictions, stiffing, blocking, preventing innovations with individuals seen explicitly beginning in 1968, targeted against the uniquely designed, high performing turbine engine powered, aerodynamic, wedge shaped Lotus 56 with AWD, which led the entire field by nearly a lap, in the 1967 race, with Joe Leonard driver, within multiple cars entered, qualified by Andy Granetelli with Lotus, until a small part failed with just 9 laps remaining, thus Indy implemented specific new restrictions for 1968, with air flow which knowingly directly affected those unique open wheel vehicles, thus limited their performance, but Andy and Lotus still entered, qualified four cars, drivers, among the top, but the restrictions reduced the vehicle's previous year's performance level, thus successfully prevented any win, then USAC banned the turbine engine in the following years afterwards. Similarly NASCAR began innovation restrictions, limitations noticeably just a couple years later with banning the high wings [first via Dodge & Plymouth], along with later restrictions with engines, aerodynamics. Formula 1, etc. are well known for their limitations, restrictions, to achieve claimed 'equal level' vehicles, as often within the various classes within most racing formats, venues. These rules certainly stifle unique development, innovation, thus performance, teams, results, achievements, thus change the racing formats, competition as We have seen and continue to see, with mostly to nearly identical vehicles along with restricted performance, results, achievement. The IndyCar limitations, restrictions are as extensive as F1 [2,3,4], thus all with the same aerodynamics, chassis, engine design, displacement, 2.2 L V-6, turbocharger size, boost levels, from just two manufactures currently [Chevrolet & Honda], power, transmissions/trans-axles, wheels, tires, etc. They introduced, previously a limited use, specific minutes per race, restricted within the vehicle computer, with increased boost, labeled "push to pass" to add additional management to fuel and tires, and apparent excitement, now removed for 2024 [lacking with proper verification, certification, elimination, discovery, claimed several months afterwards, then penalized - certainly all vehicles should have been inspected, verified, certified before the race season began and maintained properly via a proper race, tech control, just as with all other regulations, limitations, restrictions, safety !! = negligent, appalling, irresponsible catastrophe !!] During those years, many of the F1 drivers as Mario Andretti also competed in the prestigious Indy 500, then many open wheel, USAC, Indy drivers also began competing in NASCAR racing as AJ Foyt, Mario Andretti and others. AJ Foyt specifically had other racing format experience within dirt, Sprint car, etc., previously, along with extensive experience within mechanical, mechanics as more common during those decades too. Maybe Kyle Larson will become more comparable with Tony Stewart of this era, which will be yet to be seen, determined, with his potential, developed, realized abilities, success and outlook. It is very rare for racing drivers to have success within multiple racing vehicle platforms, formats, especially between open wheel and closed, or between Formula 1 [2,3,4] road racing and Indy oval, or oval track and road racing as in Formula, IMSA, FIA, LeMans, Gran Prix or multiple driver team, extended, continuous time racing of 6 - 24 hours. Perhaps, seemingly the introduction and establishment with some road racing, Gran Prix formats within IndyCar, NASCAR, contribute to the development with racing within more than just oval tracks. We are seeing some more of these currently too, this year, though still very rare. Three is no need ot portray Kyle Larson as if unknown either, since that is certainly a false, improper, incorrect extreme, just as any attempt from those viewing the Indy, USAC drivers, champions when they began participating within NASCAR or a F1 driver in IndyCar, IndyCar driver in F1, or as Helio Castroneves' participation within other racing formats or many of IndyCar drivers participating in LeMans 24 hours of Daytona this year 2024 [Penske team win], etc. In reality each successful driver is actually unique, including among those within each racing format, and certainly between eras, decades, 🙂 AJ Foyt, Al Unser Rick Mears, Helio Castroneves, all four time Indy 500 winners are each certainly unique as are those with three, two, one win and many time qualifications without a win, which many have wins during other races formats, venues along with many drivers with multiple format, venues wins. All The Best, Sincerely

The vehicles have many limitations, restriction, rules, but actually it is quite amazing they have such very consistent high speed through the turns, curves compared with the straight portions - straight-away; now for many years, multiple decades; note the small speed variations are within about 5 MPH and the average and maximum speeds are very close in range within the entire field of 33 qualified vehicles/drivers. In fact the engines, transmissions/trans-axles, power, boost, gearing, aerodynamics, etc. are regulated, restricted, limited thus their speeds are restricted, limited. Without these restrictions, limitations, the speeds would certainly have exceeded 250 MPH, reached 300 MPH, including average lap speeds.
