I'd argue that the Ineffable Husbands ship is the sole reason Good Omens has become such an enduring cult classic. Like, you're only in the fandom if you ship these two. Ineffable Husbands and the Good Omens fandom are one and the same. It's a one-circle Venn diagram. Literally, haven't met a fan who isn't there for the ship.

I love this ship: book, show, whatever. Doesn't particularly matter whether it's ace or sexual. Also, you can be gay and ace, don't have to separate those things. The more important thing is the closeness and chemistry they share.

I decided to watch the show because I started seeing tons of posts about it on my tumblr dashboard and it looked interesting. I went in with zero expectations and without even watching the trailer so I had no idea what it was about and well, I just fell in love with it and I've rewatched it twice already! My shipper heart was drawn to Aziraphale and Crowley because they fall into the same kind of relationships I enjoy (read: nerdy and cute ball of sunshine and suave/dorky edgelord) and I couldn't help but ship it. I also thought that Michael Sheen and David Tennant played the roles in a way that indicated those characters truly loved each other even if it wasn't romantic love (which was later confirmed by multiple interviews they gave). After watching the show I decided to pick up the book. I loved it a lot as well but I must confess I like the tv series better because of the extra scenes Neil added, especially the trials! I still felt that Aziraphale and Crowley loved each other while reading the book though!

I'm demisexual, so I'm not sure how I feel about smut in the context of the Ineffable Husbands. I feel like they're fine with or without it; they love each other so much, and that's enough, whether that goes so far as sex or not. I don't know, to me it just feels weird thinking about smut when it comes to them for some reason.

I enjoy smut as much as the next person, but personally, I feel that these two are in an asexual romantic relationship :0 I have never explored asexual relationships before, or even thought of them before this ship hit me like a ton of bricks. Something that really struck me about the Amazon adaptation is that, for all the differences between how the show portrayed Crowley and Aziraphale and how I imagined them when I read the book, I never felt like those differences negated one another. There is something about the show that feels more like an option than a statement: this is just one way you could see these characters. It feels like seeing different productions of the same play that make varying choices with casting and direction; they don't close off the potential for other productions to play differently, or for the way a reader might envision the events. To quote Oscar Wilde, which I think Aziraphale would approve of, "There are as many Hamlets as there are melancholies." There are as many Crowleys and Aziraphales as there are joys at the farcical end of the world.

I love everything about this ship. Ace, Rom, smut, platonic rom, Bromance alll and anything. They work so wonderfully as both a ship and not, It allows me to enjoy all fic types . A week after bingeing the series, i ordered the book then I went on ao3 cuz Fanfics and I kid u not I swear over 500+ fics and fanart pop up over night while i was reading it was both amazing and horrifying. Amazing because more fancontent both good and goodbad.(Good Omens bad end fics are 😭and alot of fanfic Authors do torture wayyyy too well) Horrifying because I don't have enough hrs between life & sleep to read all. Honestly whether you ship them or not, like the book or tv series you gotta Good Omens for making 6000 yrs of history absolute fic fodder.

I love that ship. While I enjoy shipping in general, this has been a first to speak to me on a personal level as someone who is ace / aro. The beauty of it is just how queer it is, without any closer definitions. You really can read it whatever way you like. Personally, I had the impression from the series that they had been in a queerplatonic relationship for a long time by the beginning, and were just good at keeping it quiet. As far as fanfics are concerned, some of the tropes I especially liked: - Crowley in snake form - Stories set in the past - Aziraphale as guardian angel of the queer community (I think this one is my favorite, honestly) - Your usual pining/getting together fics So yeah, fun fandom. But PLEASE leave Gaiman alone.

Absolutely! Keep Neil out of all the "Discourse" bullshit! My own $0.02 on my love for these ineffable husbands is that they *can* "make an effort" when they feel like it, and mix and match whatever bits they feel like, as is implied by Crowley's appearances as a woman. Being pretty damn genderqueer myself, and wishing that I could "effort" my bits into whatever configuration I feel like, not to mention presenting as various mixes of gender depending on mood, I can get into asexual beings who can change things up at will. And who love each other, and want each other, unconditionally, no matter what they may or may not be wearing in their pants on any given day.

I find it interesting how the adaptation brought new moments and reasons to ship them and yet it left out some of their most shippable moments such as when they feed ducks and Azi calls Crowley "my dear" or how they finished each others sentences when talking about the ineffable plan. I adore this adaptation and I've come to love it as much as the book but I think the main reason why their relationship is that bit different is because it's missing the narrator. I know that God said most of the witty lines but it's the little things like mentioning that Crowley suddenly felt lonely when Aziraphale walked off with 'the nice and accurate prophecies of Agnes nutter' that made his character different. There were little things about him that he didn't communicate physically or verbally that the narrator would say that helped the Fandom characterise him as tsundere. I could (and I have) gone on for hours about how minor details between both characters change their relationship but as you mentioned I'm sure thousands of fans have already analysed this.

Admittedly it's been a couple of years since I last read the book, but tbh I didn't notice much difference in characterisation. Mind you, I'm so used to reading fic now, just in general, I've got pretty good at glossing over minor OOC moments. I think the main thing is now we have full canon appearances for them (or at least a version of canon), which, idk, is a thing. I keep remembering a Hogwarts AU I read where Crowley was Arabic which I really liked (Potter Omens on AO3, if anyone wants to read it. It's nearly 70k, as either incentive or deterrrent). But people aren't going to be doing things like that for the show, so, idk.

I haven't watched the show, but I remember coming across a few fics along the course of my online life. I recall one (sorry, can't supply links) that addressed the "Arrangement" and defined it as a series of small deals they had gathered up over the centuries, most written on pieces of paper tossed into a special wastepaper basket, but at the bottom of that basket, engraved onto a sheet of bronze, is the foundation deal - the angel will not fall for the demon, and the demon will not fall in love with the angel. The story also brought up the result of that happening, with them swapping position - Aziraphale becoming a demon, Crowley a redeemed angel.

I just finished watching the series today. They are so effin cute honestly. Ineffable Husbands is such a great ship name and their interactions are just so cute and sweet that I'm absolutely excited for season 2. However other fans see their relationship really doesn't matter because everyone can agree that they love each other--whether that will lead to something sexual or will remain non-sexual.

My hot take on the adorably ineffable husbands: slowburn romance with *potential* for demi into other aspects of their relationship. But! On top of the fact that I would, at most, allude to their personal ventures and have no interest in being explicit about them in future fanfics (because I'm so critical of my own writing that I'm currently not comfy with writing smut in general).....I also want to be clear that this is *my* take on things. They love each other dearly, and will explore what their bond is in their own ways, and in their own time. Over the years I've had to buy multiple copies of the book as I'd keep loaning it out to (pushing it on unsuspecting) friends. Ineffable has always been the best description for them, as they never struck me as having strictly human motivations. Definitely there is a relationship there, but not a simple one. I loved the series, but the book will always be my ultimate canon.

(Excuse my awful english :p) I've been a big fan of the book for almost 9 years. I can't even tell for certain how many times I've read it but even after reading it for the first time at just 11 years old I knew there was something else in the subtext between those two. It wasn't until I was 13 that I actually had a grasp on the basics of romantic love and I openly started to ship them. As the years went by I started to understand more and more of the dynamic between them and what that means for each of them individually as well as for their respective sides and the people around them. In my opinion this ship comes to a close second right after Destiel in my "the greatest love story ever told" list. I think they were genuine friends at the start but as centuries went by they practically "learned" to love each other. It's not that it was forced, per say, but they truly appreciated the other more and more until it blossomed into something more. And the way those two love each other is so uniquely /them/ because of /what/ they are, I agree with Gaiman in the sense that they definitely love each other but not in the human-romantic way because that's just not /who/ they are. In conclusion, yes, I need a shippable moments for those two. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

When watching the show, I personally see them in a queerplatonic relationship; but when it comes to fanfics, most if not all of the different ways these two are paired together is a delight to read about. Whether its Pre-Fall Crowley, Fallen Azira, purely friendship, reverse AU, mature, or fluffy romantic antics, its always well done because the authors have such a good grip on how the two feel for each other. See me out here writing Crowley/Aziraphale/Gabriel love triangle fics because I can't stop myself.... Gabriel as Aziraphale's jealous ex or unrequited love interest is my jam (four fics deep and it's featured in three of them because I am a ridiculous human being!) Loved loved loved this video btw... but you forgot to mention that it wasn't just the fans that saw the WW2 scene as being when Aziraphale realised he'd fallen in love.... that was how Michael played it as well (our patron saint of the ship and all around angel himself) as confirmed by the director! I think having the support that Michael in particular has given for these two has been instrumental in their popularity as well.... it's always nice to not be told by the creators and actors that your delusional for seeing romance between two characters (usually of the same sex... or assumed sex in their case...) I would adore seeing a shippable moments video (but can you make it short enough... it would be almost every scene with them in it surely?)

I’ve been utterly obsessed with the show since it came out. I tried to read the book first, but I became too excited and binged the entire show before finishing reading. I will say that this affected my interpretation of the book, but not to a point where I can’t tell the difference between the two. I can see the divide in people who ship and those who don’t ship, and strangely, I’m on both sides. I will not argue that these two love each other, whether it be platonic, romantic or any other sorts. I can’t even explain how I see their relationship. After long nights (of which I’ve had many) of thinking it over, the best way I can describe them is “married”. Married in a long-term romantic sense? Sure. Married in a way that they’re so incredibly close that they know each other better than anyone? Yeah. I’ve seen best friends described as being married before. I myself have considered myself married to some of my friends. I’ve seen real marriages and long term relationships and people who have just met describe themselves as married. To me, it means an incredible closeness that is shared between the two (or more) parties. What type of closeness, who knows. The love that Aziraphale and Crowley have towards each other will always be endearing to me, as I’ve found a lot of means to love myself through it, and their relationship is so wonderfully vague that it can mean exactly what you need it to mean.

I started watching the show because I saw the tag trending on tumblr and I’m nosy so I checked it out. Everything was tagged as “oh my gosh they’re husbands” so I watched the show with the mindset that they have a established relationship. I didn’t realize until the end that it’s “basically canon” and not actually canon. I totally ship it though. There’s not a lot of fics (yet) for anything other than Ineffable husbands but there are quite a few newt/anathema, Gabriel/beelzebub, Hastur/Ligur and my personal favorite: No ships just The Them being kids.

I've heard of good omens (Amazon prime series)and decided to watch it, once it was over I did end up shipping them. I didn't know it was a book until I looked it up then also finding Neil's Tumblr and Twitter where he said it is cannon, saying that they do love each other very much but they're not gay men becuase they're an Angel and a Demon. It was neat to hear that they do love each other but I honestly didn't think others would hate it or even wanting to know if smut had to be included. I just assumed they were sexless. Made me disappointed that some fans took it so far as saying that Neil doesn't understand his own work. I enjoy the fandom, I really do and the fact the Neil likes connecting and replying to his fans makes it even better but in my opinion I feel like fans need to know that there's always a line that they shouldn't cross when it comes to not getting what they want, they should express their headcannons to those who will enjoy it as well but shoving/pushing it to the author to make it cannon seems worng to me. I personally can't help but ship them (and sorry for self inserting) because of how I am literally just like Crowley. (Well, considering if you see them like that.) I can think of multiple occasions in which I will literally just stare at her, like how everyone keeps pointing out with Crowley. And I do (and sometimes regretting it) go out of my way to help her, even if it inconvenients me. Just like Crowley. So it's really hard to not ship them because it's like awww Crowley, I've been there too :'0 And also Aziraphale's either oblivion or just not being ready is exactly how she is dealing with this situation. (Like, I think she knows, it's pretty obvious lmao, but she is just acting oblivious so we can keep this platonic thing we have going on which is fine by me :^) )

personally i see lots of shippable moments in both the book and the series adaptation ;3 although the characters are a little more developed and dare i say complex in the book i feel that the series did a great job converting the characters to their purest motivations in the series... but the ship remains the same to me :))

It's one thing to have preferences, but to basically mentally lock dynamics or a timeline into place, then what is even the point of reading other people's fanfiction? Like, sure I have a marked preference for them Making An Effort, but I can still enjoy stories that treat them explicitly as an ace romantic couple. Like Neil Gaiman says, we're all just making stuff up here, even Neil and Terry themselves were doing that. There is literally no "right" way, we're not dealing with historical figures who actually had a relationship/friendship here.
