I would be interested, too. Brinki did something like that after the Giro last year, and it really opened my eyes that for the majority of riders and teams it really is a team sport financially. It doesn't matter who is winning what individually, as long as some money is coming in to pay the salaries and keep the sponsors happy.

Great to see you back, but i think Ineos's problems go much deeper than one young rider. My impression was that Ineos were to allow Tom Pidcock to defend his MTB Olympic Gold and then he was going to focus on the road. Maybe this wasn't the case but i don't see Caleb Ewan getting a few stage wins compensating for losing Pidcock. That said Pidcock sad being paid too much for not enough in return, but top teams have riders like Pidcock but also have multiple team leaders as well, Ineos don't. If Ineos had spent some money on some real prospects then i might agree. I'm not so sure Ineos won't still get their tactics so wrong by riding on the front giving UAE a break and thinking they can still win races they just have no chance of winning.
@andreapickett36769 күн бұрын
So far Ineos hasn’t learnt that riding the front only benefits other teams bcus at the 2025 Santo Tour Down Under they’re on the front getting wiped out at the finish. I think to trade Picock and Hayter was a wonderful idea, neither where good team players, both were always riding at the back of the peloton. However Ineos biggest problem is they don’t have a good management team.

Tactical genius at play. I believe and 100% expect to see Ganna, G, Tarling, the Swifties, and just about everyone else minus Carlos and Egan doing the job to help Caleb win big in 2025. FYI, the belgian coach left on his own accord to do something else, he wasn't forced out. If it was up to the federation he'd have stayed on for a while longer. Also Sven's main strength (according to both riders and people behind the scenes) wasn't some tactical skills, but rather people skills. He was great at fostering a team spirit and gaining riders trust. Basically he was mostly a people's manager rather than a tactical manager. He was according to rumours in talk with several WT teams, though it seems things weren't as credible as was first thought with among others SOQ deciding to hire another former Belgian staff member instead of him because they deemed he didn't have enough experience in the WT/regular team leader role and weren't certain of his skill in things like GC. They went instead with someone more akin to a trainer to take a load of Remco's trainer who apparently had his hands quite full. UAE was mentioned at some point, but that so far also hasn't seen any real evidence for.

From a road-centric point of view I agree. Cannot deny that road cycling is throughout the year the longest discipline and the one with the most money- But cycling has also different disciplines with lot of money like MTB, cyclocross (and probably gravel in the future). So calling MTB and cyclocross riders amateurs is extremely disrespectful. And teams like Alpecin shows (on the men and women side) that a team can have success as a team in different disciplines. That's why I always though that it was a mistake from Tom to sign for a team that values road cycling only when your heart is in MTB (I remember reading in an interview that Tom said that he enjoys MTB the most, but I'm not sure if I'm remembering that correctly), that never made sense to me.
@tonilauge578610 күн бұрын
It is last call for the pocket rocket! Hope Caleb is aware of that! About Time Ewan grow up! Ineos is only A shadow of its past. No serius Contender for any Cc in the grand tours. So take what you can get of Wins in sprint etape😜🔝❤️

Outside of cycling fans which are comparatively few and far between. Pidcock is far more famous in the UK for his MTB Olympic medals than for everything else he has done on a bike, Tour de France stage win included. You have to understand the target market to understand his racing profile in 2024.
@jerrychicken9679 күн бұрын
Nice to see you back Chris. I can't disagree more though. Maybe Belge coach/ds going is good though 🤔 Mcewan and Viviani are in the same boat. Viv has left and didn't do much with any lead outs from the team. Caleb will suffer the same and get no support. Caleb is said to be tricky to deal with and so was Pidcock so nothing new there. Pidcock at least had results but against the big four at the tours plus Vdp in the Classics, well, it's slim pickings. I think Pidcock was paid too much but he got a few results. Not sure if Radcliffe wanted Pidcock to win gold at Olympics?? Not sure if Radcliffe gave Pidcock a bung to win that race?? Olympics is big in UK so maybe Radcliffe values it more than the Peloton. The team is doomed.
@georgehugh34559 күн бұрын
Whether you/we like it or not, Pidcock's Ineos departure was pretty much a Done Deal (whether he physically left the team or not...), given his clashes with management.

Still not agree with you on Tom Pidcock. At some point Ineos management decided to aim at Mtb Olympics medals and not one but 2. They used one of their 30 rider slots for a female Mtb rider (her name was on the bus door). 0% chance to score any UCI points. Both Tom Pidcock and Pauline Ferrand-Prévot deliver with gold (and some minor other victories like world cup victories and world champs). At some point if you build a multi year program with 2 top Mtb athletes you can't blame them to do what's planed. Ineos management is just made knucklehead choices and pay the price. I'm obviously Mtb and French bias. 😸
@ChrisHornerCycling10 күн бұрын
I already agreeed with you on this. If management agreed to let pidcock race multiple disciplines then I’m firing management also because 2.5 million is a lot for one big win a year. 😳🤔😬

@@ChrisHornerCycling Sky/Ineos used to back Olympic ambitions but at some point they changed they mind. Maybe it's related to Shell teamGB sponsorship. Ethan Hayter, Daniel Bigham.... all gone somewhere else.

Ineos had two problems they lined up Pidcock to become a Grand Tour GC rider of the future, and as time went on, I'm not sure that fitted in with his personal plans, he does what makes him happy, and Grand Tours are not it. Plus would he ever win one while Pog, Remco and Jonas are around? in his mind would it be worth the sacrifice and effort to him? I think he would rather win a monument. Is Caleb in on a one year deal? if so it could be used a trial period and maybe fair enough. A world tour team without a recognisable decent sprinter seems unthinkable when so many stages are for sprinters. Crazy management imo. I think Ineos should be looking at out of contract Mads Pedersen or maybe Olav Kooij for next season and have Caleb in reserve. Trek have exciting young sprinters like Milan, Nys and TTT, do they need Mads next year, they can all do what he does and better in most cases...? But I think Mads could be a good target for Ineos in 2026. They are not winning a GT for sure unless one of the big 4 is not around. Here's to an amazing 2025 season!
