.............................................................
This is the all-new INEOS Grenadier!
Now we know what some of you are thinking - it looks like a classic Land Rover Defender! And sure, it might do, but we assure you that this is a totally different car. If anything, this is probably the car that classic Land Rover fans wish was released instead of the latest Defender!
One thing's for sure - this car definitely isn’t a case of style over substance! If you’re looking for a truly rugged off-roader, it doesn’t get much better than this. The Grenadier comes with a choice of two engines, including a 3-litre straight-six turbo-petrol that can deliver 285hp & 450Nm of torque. It’s also packed full of off-roading tech, such as low-range mode and central locking diffs. It’s pretty heavy though, tipping the scales at 2,500kg. But when it has the ability to tow 3,500kg, does that really even matter?!
So what's the interior like? Well once you take a step inside, you'll realise (you guessed it...) that there are some more similarities to the old Defender! You’ll find a load of physical buttons on the centre console, while there's also a large infotainment screen up top.
When it comes to price, the Grenadier starts from £53,000 for the standard passenger vehicle, so there’s no denying that it’s good value for money! But is it really worth considering over a Land Rover? You’ll need to keep watching to find out!

The development was done by Magna in Graz, Austria. So the Grenadier is definitely in the tradition of the Mercedes G/Puch G, which was also developed by Daimler-Steyr-Puch (Magna's predecessor company) and Mercedes in Graz in 1979. The engines come from the BMW engine plant in Steyr, also Austria. The Grenadier is then manufactured in Hambach, France, in the former Smart plant, which Ineo bought from Mercedes. All the best to Ineos, looks like a great car.

Love the INEOS Grenadier. What the 4x4 buyers' market sorely needs today is an affordable no-frills INEOS Grenadier - just like a Suzuki Jimny - only bigger. The problem with the INEOS Grenadier and other 4x4s is they are very expensive so out of reach for many fans.

Its probably gonna continue squeaking and creaking, truthfully the Current Defender is what I call a proper upgrade from the disco 4&3 and unlike the Disco 5 you can take it offroad and not feel bad about scratching a panel or the bumper, the ineos is cool but you can't compare it to the Defender when it comes to comfortability and daily driveability and the fact that the new defender doesn't have a ladder frame chassis I sure know which care I'd like to be in offroading as well and it's definitely not the ineos

Its got some weird design choices which I guess comes from the ground up design. Wedging that 3.0L beamer engine into a weirdly shaped engine bay, for one. Its just such an inefficient layout which causes the weird humped roof and leaves no space for the electronics/ battery. The suspension mounts for the leaf springs are left danging below the frame, thats just not how modern ladder frame/ leaf springs work. You've basically just compromised your ground clearance. And the list goes on.

A car that people who want simple have been asking for. I'm happy Sir Jim Radcliffe went ahead with this, good simple car that won't be as big of a pig to drive on the road (Big fan of the old defender but it was dangerous in modern traffic). Also, the old technology is utilised exceptionally well on this and modern conveniences have been added which in my eyes makes this one of the best cars this year.

Thank you very much for this video..... as an experienced off roader and teacher can I be very rude and be a little of a nit-picker Don't put your thumbs inside the steering wheel when off roading, if you hit an unseen obstacle that twitches the wheels you can break your thumbs ...nit pic over thanks again for a brilliant review.

Nah, the new defender is a massive success. People like the idea of an old defender, but anyone who's spent time in one will tell you how utterly terrible they were. What they've done with the new one is perfect - it's hugely capable off road, but refined on it, which is where most spend their lives. And it's relatively affordable. They nailed it. Sure, they could've stuck a caricature body on the new car like Mercedes. Meh, would it have made it any better?

JLR missed a trick when it designed the new Defender; as Matt says, this is the car that the new Defender should have been (and the new Defender should have been the Discovery replacement). If you configure the new Defender to any decent spec its price overlaps Discos and some RR Sports - shades of the pricing hiatus that plagued BL. And it's not built in Wales because a) the Welsh government refused to improve logistics flow along the M4 in S Wales, and b) because Ineos is taking over a Mercedes plant in France, so no huge financial or carbon footprint cost that would otherwise have been incurred by a new build. All of this demonstrates why Jim Ratcliffe is so successful. I agree with Matt - the Grenadier will be a huge success.

I got to see one at a local festival, that I did Security at, the first thing i said when i saw it was that looks like an older defender and would love to get one and mod it like a proper defender. I got to see one of the non-runner versions and could see how early it was since a lot of the buttons where either from other vehicles or where 3d printed and had no markings. Would love to actually love to see one in the wild and have a go in one.

This is a rival for a G-wagon not an original defender, I can’t see many farmers splashing out £48000 for the base model grenadier. The original defender became obsolete for its target market: farmers! Farmers mostly moved to Japanese vehicles as they’re far cheaper and more reliable.

I've been waiting for the Grenadier for several years now and in that time the price has doubled! As a farmer, Ineos must be dreaming if they think we will pay £53k starting price. Maybe a wealthy land owner would buy it, although they would probably get a Range Rover instead. Therefore I'm not sure who this is for. Maybe townies with large incomes who want to play at off roading at the weekend? Although why not just buy the more luxurious new Defender. New locks all around, that I can still open with a screwdriver. Don't talk such tosh about restoration being better than the Grenadier. Any of you who know me, know I've been a lifelong Land Rover fan. I almost cried when I saw the new Defender - not one bit what I'd hoped for. When I first saw the Grenadier - I wasn't that enthused, though it was a lot better than the new Defender. However, it has grown on me! Even I'm surprised how much. I have a Range Rover Sport for long journies and until recently a 110 Doublecab for anything dirty. I really wanted something like the 110 for practicality but with the ride quality and creature comforts (simple things like cup holders!) of the Range Rover (which is still gorgious to drive). It looks a lot like a G-Wagon to me too. That of course was another option, but they are just too expensive to be practical. I'd rather have a top end Range Rover for the money. The Grenadier looks like it might fit both roles (and it even has cup holders! ;-) ). High probability I'll be driving one eventually.
