When ineos named him for Vuelta they had no idea he would be in this sort of shape - I can’t see him holding this brilliant form until September and so they should put him in tour team instead of Castrojevo or alternatively put Yates in Giro - which would be much easier to win and he could joint lead with Bernal and then he could have a second stab of year at Vuelta

I completely agree, especially once you factor in Bernal's showing in last year's Tour. I want to see what Adam Yates can do with elite support. The Tour is a different order of event from the Giro or the Vuelta in terms of global prestige. Having Yates target the Vuelta would be to give up on being a first rate team in order to go after a second rate prize. At least contest the biggest race to the best of your ability. So, they don't have RogPog, but better to lose while trying to win than to not try at all.

TdF will be Stacked this year. JBV: Roglic lead into the climbs by Kuss, Kruijswijk; Bennett, Martin doing the pacing; Van Hooydonck in a support role and WVA doing everything. UAE: Pogacar lead up the mountains by Formolo for sure; Trentin, Hirschi as all 'rounders; then it would depend on what the teams ambitions are whether to bring Gaveria and Richeze or more climbing support like Conti, Ulissi, McNulty, Dombrowski. Ineos: (Tough because the team is really stacked) I would start with the best domestic they have in Kwiatkowski: TT Dennis or Ganna but not both; Amador/Castroviejo for early in the climbs; Siviakov/DVB in the flats; Carapaz to cover attacks on the climbs; a combination of Tomas/Porte/Yates/Bernal for GC depending on where their levels and training are at. Every other team should focus on stage wins and getting their up-and-coming GC riders and domestics some experience. I'm sure I'm missing a lot.

I think it would be a mistake to not bring Adam Yates to the TDF with how good he looks right now. Then again his brother looked pretty good in the 2018 Giro. The biggest questions for Adam is does he have the endurance for three weeks and will he be consistent in performing this well in the TT. Whatever they do, Ineos really should bring two leaders to the tour. They need to isolate Roglic and Pogacar, and two credible threats would be a good way to do that. They can't just ride in a train to the line and sprint for bonus seconds because both Slovenians have shown they excel in those circumstances. I'd personally like to see them ride for Thomas and Yates, with Porte as a domestique.

@alexbiggs713 жыл бұрын
I think maybe they should consider taking Yates to TdF, but quite honestly that brings up the question of who they leave then, as a ‘too many cooks’ problem becomes apparent. Porte? TGH? Carapaz? Those are all tough calls to make, leaving out a proven GT winner/podium finisher vs. a great one-week rider who has yet to finish off a GT (barring an under the radar 2016) when Pogacar (and likely Roglic) will simply look to use their train. I suppose Yates could prove useful as a 2-week foil if you think either Carapaz and/or Thomas could outlast Roglic; but they both have very different ITT capabilities, and moreover - I don’t think either can get the edge on the Slovenians. Should be interesting, that’s all I can say.
@Flakey1013 жыл бұрын
Porte is an easy one to include at the TDF. Since they specificaly got him to be a super Dom at the TDF he is not going to be a cook there
@ricksmith66653 жыл бұрын
TGH is the easy one to not bring. I think you bring Yates, Porte, Carapaz, G and let the ITT decide the roles. G might have the best ITT of all the GC rides and in yellow. If Carapaz loses more than 2-3 min in the first ITT then he will be the super dom, otherwise, Yates will be the super dom. You can let the first week sort it out. Ineos will need to avoid a situation where Pogacar is up the road putting time on G. They can avoid this by using the train to drop his team and then attacking multiple times with Yates and Carapaz. Each time not working with Pogacar but getting him tired. While G is not working down the road, setting his own pace.

It depends on how Yates ITT goes. If he has a good time in the first week, he could cause Jumbo and Pogacar some trouble. If Yates is up the road, then G and Ineos don't have to work. G can ride his pace and limit losses. Ineos should be on the attack and not waiting for Pogacar or Jumbo. It is a three-week race and the more Jumbo and Pogacar are under pressure the harder for them to stay fresh in week three.
