I volunteered for the NY Road Runners Club, which puts together the NY Marathon, in the Eighties and worked their merchandise sales room at the Sheraton Hotel on the days before the race. You wouldn’t believe how much merchandise they sell. Runners want that memorabilia for themselves and to bring back to others. My wildest sale was a guy who wanted 70 Marathon T-shirts, all the same size, that he could bring back to his village in China. No problem.

This is the first video of this channel I've seen. She did an 11 minute 11 second pace. Considering Macy never ran beyond 18 miles and considering she was doing 6 miles at a 13 minute pace week 1, this was a FANTASTIC result. The best I've ever done is 10 miles at a 10:31 pace. At some point, the issue becomes more about training your feet to handle the additional miles, but I could definitely keep that pace up for more miles. I'd love to one day do the marathon.

I work for a company that puts on marathons and people have no idea how much goes into putting on a race. Runners think we’re just raking in the cash but it can be a struggle to make a race profitable. Some races, we’re lucky to just break even.

Choi has been banned for life from the New York marathon and was dropped by his sponsor but security really should have been better; they shouldn’t have let it happen in the first place. I work in the events industry... and heaps goes into an event to put it on! Staff and labour simply to put the event together, everything you see needs to be constructed, and then removed post-event, clean up crew, THOUSANDS of volunteers, cost of the timing company, bibs, timing chip, postage of the bibs (or bib collection needs to all be arranged pre-event). At the event you have port-a-loos - HEAPS, security, staff, volunteers, directors, and commentators. Hiring of equipment, all of the gates are usually hired as well... so much goes into events!

I always find it humbling when a someone freely admits to being a rank amateur at some athletic pursuit, puts up a total jabroni act during the entire preparation process, then grumbles about pain or weakness during the event, and I see the final result and it's about a hundred times better than anything I was ever capable of. Hey, thanks for doing this. It's good to see the view from the street. I promise to keep all this in mind when I watch the thing on DVR in a few days. 😉
