INFAMOUS AMERICA presented by Black Barrel Media. Public Enemy No. 1 - that was John Dillinger in the early 1930s. He robbed banks and took hostages and shot it out with the cops for 13 months. But before he was the first celebrity criminal in modern America, he was an unskilled petty thief who idolized the Old West outlaw Jesse James.

In the late 1940s, I saw a John Dillinger's car on a flatbed in Torrington, Wyoming. I never forgot.

The correct pronunciation of the Dillinger name is with a silent 'g'. John wasn't a bully for all of his life as is portrayed as he spent many years growing up and had a wonderful childhood. How did you obtain the information from Audrey's diaries? Thank you for covering the family part of John's life in such detail. This is a very informative and I look forward to listening to the others.

GREAT JOB, I listened to the story, captuvated for 2 days, then I subscribed. About JOHN...I took my young daughter to see a movie about John, and when it was over I asked her what she thought of John? She initially said " he was a bad man", id EXPECTED her to say this, so I clarified something. I said, yes, John could be bad BUT what made him go bad was his REAL harsh sentence at a young age. I told her, " honey" to be FAIR, IF he was only given a couple of years and some guidance, John would have turned out a lot different. He probably wouldn't have ever gotten into trouble again. He hated the government for his long, hard treatment but he was kind, most times to regular people. I said, as you get older you'll LEARN the story from the beginning and see how that could shape your opinion. She understood and has learned to be more observant as she's a young adult, in medical school.. God Bless you John and God Bless the men you killed, as it didnt have to play out like this....

Brian Condon, from everything I read John did not have a happy childhood. As ch 1 says His mother died of a stroke when he was 3 & His sister was much older & helped raise him. He had a strained relationship w/ his stepmother & his father was physically abusive.

It wasn't 9 yrs. for"stealing $120." It was 9 for aggravated battery, strong arm robbery, and possibly attempted murder.

I remember thinking that he was so cute when I was a kid. Same as Humphrey Bogart. Such a shame he didn't play him

I am a huge fan of your channel, but I think that you are making connections between Billy the Kid and John Dillinger that, to me, don't exist. John was incredibly cruel, enjoyed inflicting pain and terror. Billy was pretty much firced into the outlaw life, became trapped in that role and finally accepted it.
