I think it's because when we use a language we're unhabituated to, we have to think harder about what we're saying. Fluent speech makes words cheaper and easier to use, which is usually an advantage, but can make it harder to stop and smell the roses. Kaori delivers this poem speaking _very intentionally, with turns of phrase you wouldn't encounter from a native speaker,_ and it almost makes you feel like you're hearing English for the first time, in another reality. Plus, the accent so thick that we _almost can't tell if it's English at all, takes us_ out of our habituated English as well. She's taking time to figure out what she's saying, and you're taking time to figure out what you're hearing. One of the lines in the poem says something about 'the value of enormous intelligence named ignorance,' and I think this makes that _tangible._ S'my guess anyway xD

Nope,it's mostly too slick and bright. Old anime have that gritty feel that it's hard to capture,even kid friendly anime back in the day had a more gritty artstyle that is hard to replicate nowdays.

Moments of relative silence to just _feel the setting_ without pressure to advance the plot. Nowadays, when these show up, there's a tendency for them to be sweeping, panning landscape shots, rather than small-scale subjective shots like 'bike tires glinting in the sunset, a half-empty bottle of Ramune shining in-hand.'
