I feel like a good bass player is so underappreciated in music. People always talk about the guitarists or vocalists and even drummers, but I seldom hear about the talent of bassists. I'm glad Alice joined IR. She's great.

Agreed. People who are really _into_ the music they listen to tend to appreciate the bass and the bass player, I thnk, but the foundation (for lack of a better word) it provides seems to go over the heads of a lot of more casual listeners. That's fine, of course, no one has to be as to be as invested as anyone else. I don't think there's a wrong way to enjoy good music. What's interesting to me is how many great female bassists we're seeing these days. I seems like women are gravitating towards playing bass, for some reason? So many of my current favourite bass players are women (so many of them Japanese, too (MISA! MISA! MISA!)...I don't know what's going on over there, but I love it!). This is neither an inherently good or bad thing, just interesting to me, and it is welcome.

It's literally because music taught bass players to be percussion based. Extremely boring limited range for most of them. The best bassists are always guitarists. Always. I proved that when I was a teenager and lied about knowing how to play bass bc I knew how to play guitar. I auditioned for some band that wasn't terrible and then when I got approved I said nah no thanks man, I just want to make my own music not play stuff you wrote. Tbh I only ever liked learning some riffs by bands I heavily admire, I respect a lot of music but what I don't ever want to do is refuse to create my own stuff so I can be a npc that just plays other people's stuff. Bassists who play like guitarists, matching the harmony, having range, they always get called amazing. And it's because they are playing the bass like a guitar. I do appreciate basic bass like this though, it adds to the band for sure. But, a lot of the time, a band doesn't even need a bassist they need a guitar with 9 strings.

@@iDEATH I feel producers have a lot to answer for in this respect, too many bands with a good bass player has the bass buried in the mix so that you can't hear it even on decent systems. It doesn't need to be front and centre but it shouldn't be easily ignored.

Honestly if you have two guitarist who both play 7 strings you don’t need a bassist, especially in Hard Rock or Heavy Metal. Honestly they are boring. Don’t get me wrong they serve a minor role but when you’re mixing an album you can just leave the bass out. Layer the guitars in the mix and beef up the drums and vocals there ya go. Metallica proved that with AJFA. There are always exceptions say for instance Ryan from Mudvayne. He is phenomenal but also a rarity. Victor Wooten, phenomenal but a rarity. Overall Bass players are boring and not exciting to watch. And then finally to prove my point if you have a band with two guitar players, a bass player singer and a drummer and you go to play a gig if the drummer can’t make it, the gig is over if one of the guitar players can’t make it it’s over if the singer can’t make it, It’s over if the bass player can’t make it…guess what the show goes on because again if you have two guitar players, both playing seven strings you don’t need that bass player. Sorry fellas it’s all about the guitars .

Being a person with zero musical ability/talent, i appreciate these highlight solo performances! It can be difficult for me to focus on a singular instrument especially the bass guitar. Now with this video I’ve realized how awesome Alice is destroying the baseline is in this song! Also like the horizontal headbanging opposed to the traditional vertical headbang haha Hope to see more of this type of video (Eugen and Vadim’s turn!….but more from Alice and Lena as well lol)
