A basic explanation over Armstrongs final speech. Armstrong clearly knows he’s dead as Raiden plunges his hand into his chest. But it’s then he explains how Raiden will keep Armstrongs dream alive, the dream of a land of the truly free. Armstrongs goal was planted in selfishness. His ideal America is one where the strong are unbound and free to do whatever they want, the normal innocent lives suffering because of this. Armstrong simply sugarcoats it. After all… Who is stronger than Armstrong? Nobody would be able to truly stop him. Raiden does indeed carve his own path, he leaves the very company he worked at prior just to avoid the legality of his actions stopping him. Armstrong views this as him being just a step closer to being like him, a man who will do whatever he sees fit to achieve his goals, and it’s through Armstrong’s initial speech on MG-Excelsus he tries to change Raidens mind, to no avail. Raiden ends up in an awkward place at the end of the game. He’s aware Armstrong will eventually be replaced, he’s aware that things are far from over. And it’s Armstrong who gives Raiden this big realization. It’s Armstrong who tries to in his last moments make his own dream of a land of the truly free Raidens own. In the end though, we know Raiden isn’t that type of person, a child soldier fighting for the children. Something cool I think a lot of people don’t notice about MGR’s OST is how much it builds into each characters story. It’s actually really important as each of the winds and Sam only have so much screen time. MG-Ray: Our first song outlines how the tides of war are changing. The peak of weaponry present in the past has now become nothing but a distraction, Raiden quickly disposing of it to continue pursuing sundowner. And all of this was simply another step in natures plan, everything will soon grow outdated, be replaced. And now those same tanks with legs that were such a scary prospect in the solid series are being mass produced. The end of an era. Wolf’s: His song is about how he yearns for Freedom, the feeling and sanctity of finally being out of Desperado’s grasp. But he never was capable of doing so, being trapped in a metaphorical cage as the looming threat of having his memory wiped continues to shackle him. Mistral: Her’s is about how she truly found her calling, feeling like a complete stranger afterwards as he slowly began envying her prey, only to then find Armstrong and truly believe in his ideals, aspiring to live in that same America. Monsoon: Monsoons is about how the Cambodian genocide impacted his life, resulting in his own ideals, him becoming a sociopath and thus causing the downward spiral he’d be placed into before joining desperado. “ And it will come, like a flood of pain. “ is pretty self explanatory over what this means in Stains of Time. Sundowner: His is all about how he was never corrupted, he was simply pure evil from the beginning, his morals further emphasizing this with his speech prior. “ Kids are cruel jack, we all are by nature. “ the song specifically going into the time that Sundowner was participating in wars, leaving piles of blood so large it looked like a scorching sun. Sam: Sam’s is about how he’s truly lost his motivation, how he’s wondering how he’s strayed off of his original path that contained his own form of justice. Now Sam is just a pawn though, a pawn in Armstrong’s larger game and he can’t do anything about it. He simply fights just to fight, holding onto the hope that maybe Raiden, somebody like him, could defeat Armstrong. This is why he sets his sword to unlock. ( Quick side note, Sam is the only character to have their lyrics blasting initially apart from Armstrong. Sam though upon losing his sword also loses his lyrics, said sword being so linked to the horrifying things he’s caused whenever he loses it he can think clearly. ) The entire song is basically Sam’s train of thought. MG-Excelsus: This song very clearly defines the persona Armstrong puts on. It strays so vastly from his actual plan it’s incredibly obvious upon hearing his plan. It outlines how America uses its dollar economy to basically place its citizens into a lock. Mind controlling them to where they can’t do anything except let their country control your soul. Armstrong: This song is arguably the most important. This song is both Armstrong AND Raidens theme, outlining how similar the two are but how each went on a different path. Raiden protecting the innocent, and Armstrong being a corrupt politician trying to make America his own form of great again. It perfectly speaks about how the act of violence will simply create more, Raidens own actions having its benefits and consequences. Yet beneath the blood stained sand, new life will be born and hope will still carry on. ----- This’ll probably be my last explanation, but I always find it disappointing how people do sometimes ignore the spectacular story telling expected from a Metal Gear game just to comment on the memes. I believe Armstrong is one of the greatest villains in all of gaming, this entire story is linked up to him and every character eventually has ties to him. His bravado makes him believably American, he’s hilarious but threatening and he’s got the abilities needed to boot. Metal Gear Rising is such a big switch up compared to the Solid line of games, but it still manages to excel in everything the solid line built up. You think a sequel for Metal Gear Rising is needed? Some are not gonna like it that raiden is the antagonist, or they might like it. And who is gonna be the main protagonist for the sequel? Or is raiden still staying on the same side?

Considering the age of the game I’m doubtful there’ll ever be a sequel. The best we’ll get is a remake if we’re lucky, but it’s pretty clearly platinum ( The game studio behind MGR:R ) are planning on doing a sequel. Raiden would remain the protagonist though, as I pointed out, Armstrong TRIED to get Raiden to continue his dream. but I’m doubtful Raidens gonna do so.

@@alialkilani1182As Sundowner and Monsoon said, when all the big boys ( WOD-Sam-Armstrong ) are down, somebody else is just gonna take their place. Raidens intention here is to shut Desperado down for good, which would be a struggle but still possible. View it as a Hydra, Raiden took out the three heads but those heads are regrowing. Raidens gotta fully kill the Hydra. Basically this was meant to set up a sequel game… But we know that never came and unfortunately will most likely not ever come.
