I enjoy your videos, and have learned a lot from them. Would like some advice if I may. I have a 2021 Dell Vostro 3500, Core i-7 1165-g7, 16 gb ram(max). I am not big on using the terminal, most of my daily activities involve using the graphical interface and I cannot remember how to effectively use the terminal. Wanted to run Linux Mint 21.2, which I installed on a new ssd. Worked okay until I started trying to connect with my router USB drive. I spent 1and1/2 days trying to use terminal to connect. Finally installed Files(nautilas) and connected with it graphically. Everything seemed to be working fine, until the next day, my internet speed( Spectrum) upload dropped from 9.7mbps to .6 mbps. The only way I could get it back was to revert back to windows(swapping ssd) and reset various network settings, updated the drivers. Then I went back to Mint, worked okay for a few days, then I wanted to connect up to Dropbox, and I run into same problem with the internet speed. My questions is: Is there another distro of Linux that would work better? and Is this an issue with my laptop?
@Winnetou17
@Winnetou17 Ай бұрын
What do you mean your router USB drive ? As in you have a USB drive directly connected to your router, like a barebones NAS ? A bit weird that, from what you say, the router settings get changed, not just how you connect to it. Anyway, your problem sounds very specific, so if you don't have the luck over here on YT, you should ask for help on a forum or in a chatroom, like that Matrix one.

I'm using Linux Mint Cinnamon and I've run into a bit of a problem. I think this also happened on Windows. I have a problem with my computer being connected to the TV via. HDMI but for some odd reason I can't get the resolution up to 1920x1080, or I can but the whole screen or picture will be more "zoomed in", it kinda stretches further than my TV. So for now it's set to 1680x1050. It looks just fine but I'm confused as to why this happens. I've tried messing around in the display settings on both Linux and on my TV but I can't fix it from either. What do I do?

i would have liked to see more changes, nemo still cannot change the size of icons in the left pane, there are too many themes installed and almost none offer coloured icons in nemos left pane. i don't use mate so no comment there. xfce looks loverly as usual but i could not resize the menu using the mouse ! i currently use xfce 21.2 coz .3 showed too many errors in the log file, after install and daily use i could see an error for md5 check failed to start on live iso ! so i went back to 21.2. that might have been fixed by now, i don't know. i'm whinging i know, but it's a damn fine distro, but it could be so much better with fine tuning. thanks and cheerio

I'm very excited about LM 22, because my hardware is really new, and because of that, LM 21 with old kernel just simply can't boot on my computer. I tried LM Edge, and it was working, but because of Graphic drivers issue, it was lagging so much as if I had 30-60 Hz on 144 Hz monitor, not to mention that it's gaming laptop and I want to run some games on it, and games couldn't load at all. Distros like ubuntu which I tried in my experiences was very laggy, and I had not very good experience with other distros, but I used LM Xfce like a couple of months on my old spare laptop before and I loved it because of it's stability and lightweight.

Don't get me wrong, I understand different people have different use cases and taste and I love Linux mint. It's just start menu feels way too much traditional and windows like. Making it better doesn't mean to make it more tablet like mate.

Just because you wanted to look like Windows 11 with ads doesn't make it ugly. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the start menu. It gets the job done it's tried and true it just works

@@balsalmalberto8086 I never said a damn thing about wanting my desktop or operating system to look like wind turd 11. I was speaking to the masses who are coming from Windows who want something a little more relatable than freaking gnome vanilla such as what's found with Fedora or pop os Why the flying butt nugget fuck what I want ads baked into my operating system? I'm a Linux user you numbskull

mint seems so behind and slow compared to other distros. ubuntu is moving so much faster when it comes to wayland, fractional scaling, gestures, up to date kernels etc. used to have mint for a long time but now its unusable with modern hardware.

It also works like absolute shiiit. Just for longest time tried to install Ubuntu LTS to one of my laptops. Got everything setup correctly and then began to copy very large files from USB drive to internal drive and system freezes completely every single time. Good reminder why I ditched Ubuntu for a long time. There's always something broken in it.
