Infinity Code One: Combined Army Faction Focus

It's time to turn our attention to the Combined Army in the second of our Infinity CodeOne faction focus series!
Rules by the EI several alien races have aligned to target the human races expanding into space. Made up of forces that are experts in stealth tactical combat the Combined Army is a faction to be feared.

They have been around since launch, there was info on them in the 1st ed rulebook. I remember them having a really limited model range to start with and I don't think many people really played them. At some point CB went crazy releasing shasvastii models and they became a proper faction

I thought they would have been as it’s pretty typical to have evil aliens vs humans 😂 I love some of the newer stuff but the model designs have evolved so much that some of the previous models look very outdated.

First of all - huge thanks for all your Infinity videos. My gaming group has recently started playing this and (partly due to your videos) I've dived in hard and am loving it so far. I have a question about Shasvastii-Embryo state in both CodeOne and N4. In a game like Annihilation, where units are counted at the end of the game, how are units in embryo state counted. My reading of the CodeOne rules was the same as yours here - they're not dead so they count for points. Where I get confused is in N4 where it explicitly states that at the end of the game they are treated like Unconscious troopers and do not count. Does embryo state count differently in CodeOne vs N4, or should this end of game rule also apply to CodeOne?

I recently played frontline and we checked the rule. Units with the Shasvastii keyword count as being in embryo state if they’re unconscious. Meaning that you have to remove them from the table to stop them from scoring.

Love your vids.. so helpful.. Show how to use smoke in N4.. cuz in the Army we just pulled a pin and lobbed it away, didn't aim at someone... So I figured smoke would be the same way in a skirmish game, neh' Thanks, Jason

Thanks Jason! Appreciate the support! What’s even worse is it doesn’t envelope like IRL. If you throw smoke under a bridge it goes up on a vertical volume so people on the bridge aren’t in smoke 😂. They’re blocked either side but have clear fire lines along the length of the bridge. Did that in a game not realising. That sucked.

Another great source of info for me as a new player! I think you probably got a few thumbs down as the 'the shrouded' thing was a tad overbearing 😂 (as in just stick to a pronounciation and own it because it would be less noticeable even if wrong) but you def get a thumbs up from me mate. Good job

With regards to the Caliban profiles with the Spitfire...is there a reason you wouldn’t take the profile with the MSV? The SCW and the points are the same and everything else looks the same between the two. I am JUST getting into Infinity (my Kaldstrom pack arrives tomorrow!) so please let me know if there is a situation/rule that could lead to someone wanting to opt out of taking the MSV. I can understand if you were wanting one of the other profiles all together...but again, being specific to the Spitfire profile, it seems to be the exact same other than the MSV. Thanks so much! Thanks for the great feedback! To be perfectly honest with you I would be taking the MSV version every time. It’s always good to have the ability to reduce an opponent’s mimetism and as I’ll typically build my list around the Caliban the extra SWC won’t matter. Great to hear you have the Kaldstrøm box coming. I’m very jealous!

I just don’t understand why those two versions exist at the same cost. It seems weird. I haven’t really studied many profiles of the various armies yet, so maybe this is common? Just seemed odd to me as a new set of eyes coming into the game. My previous experiences with other games make me think that the cost would of been different unless there was some specific situations were having an MSV would hinder you in some way and it would be worth you forgoing it altogether even if the cost of taking it was the same as not. If you think of some reason, please let me know. If it’s just a relative common thing to see in the game, then I’ll just learn that with time studying the profiles.

You’re completely right. With the current profiles and rules for CodeOne there’s no obvious benefit to spending the same amount of points on the non-MSV version. If you want a Spirfire Caliban take the MSV version! There are a couple of examples where the costs don’t quite make sense and this is one of them!

In the NOX trooper box there is a SPec Ops Nox Trooper with either HMG or Spitfire - the one with the hood - I was hoping this video would tell me what this unit is because I don't see a profile for them on the list builder...

Spec Ops troopers are ones you custom build in the N4 army builder. They're tricky to find but if you use the filter in the builder and lower the points to 14 or so you'll see Spec Ops options appear at the bottom of the options. If you click on it you'll see that you can customise everything, from weapons to CC attributes. You generally can't use spec ops troopers in anything other than tournaments that allow them. In friendly games you need to check with your opponent beforehand if they're happy with them.

I think “The Shrouded” is the plural used to name them as a group. So the singular, I think, can be just “a Shrouded”. That’s at least the logic I use so that I don’t have to say “a The Shrouded”. 😂

Yeah they pluralize all the unit entry names - Fusiliers, Dakini Tacbots, etc.

Infinity Gamer O12 usually has “Unit” as the collective term. So a Gamma Unit contains troops individually called Gamma. I guess if there was a Shrouded Unit it would contain “Shrouded” as the singular troop in the same way it does for “The Shrouded”.

That’s a fair point actually. I then also struggle when you have more than one of something is that one unit with two models or two units? I mean contextually, not in terms of occupying slots in a list.
