Biopsy not necessary if the animal responds to intervention. My dog has it, had stress induced diarrhea while boarding at the kennel that wouldn’t go away with the usual bland diet of chicken and rice, three courses of metronidazole, started prednisone, and he responded very well, but had side effects from the steroids so we stopped it after three days. Prescription food that was high in fiber, had added pre and probiotics, lomotil, and slippery elm finally did the trick. I noticed some blood in his stools on a few occasions, but that has cleared now too. I highly recommend trying the slippery elm powder, it’s completely safe, often used in horses for GI problems and was recommended by my friend who is a large animal vet and owns horses herself.

My cat was constipated and my vet said she had IBD so I switched her to Instinct wet food. I couldn’t find anymore because of COVID so I asked my vet if he sold that type and if not would he sell me some of his food. He said he wouldn’t suggest his food because it would upset her stomach and I should switch her back to her original Iams kibble.

Biopsy not needed for my cat. He's eating a special diet and is on low dose prednisolone every second day and Cerenia every three days (4mg) which is a miracle drug for him. He also get metronidazole for a few weeks if his liver gets upset as it did lately. It's a tough thing to figure out and deal with. Low protein and fat diet. Flares happen in winter from shedding hairs so he gets groomed a lot more at shedding times. Don't try to skimp on finding a great cat vet!!! You'll save yourselves trouble in the end by working with a kind and knowledgeable vet. There's great sites online as well. Good luck:)

Diamond maintenance cat, dry food, the purple bag, has helped my cat, I never noticed diarrhea, but he vomited every day, it's been about 8 months that he hasn't had IBD problems, I had to take him to the vet every 3 months to get an injection. The only problem I find so far is that he's gaining too much weight.
