Inflation Brings Gifts Lumber Prices Falling

Maybe it will be cheaper to build a lumber home than to get into a mortgage.

For most of use a mortgage and lumber will be required. Interest is up but not as high as when i built. Lumber, loans and labor, the 3 L's of construction.

How hard has it fallen? Last time I checked, Hilo Home Depot lumber was still high. The only thing cheap is the 2x4x8 for $3 and change. That's because it's untreated. But that's also the only lumber that's untreated. All others are still expensive partly because they are all treated lumber.

I'm not doing any building so I have no clear answers to that question. I only found out because Home depot stock is falling. As for pricing, Home Depot is probably the high price leader for lumber here. Almost no one is more expensive. When ever prices fall, if the goods are from the Mainland Hawaii will always be the last state to feel the effect due to shipping. Eventually the prices will reflect the glut of lumber in Hilo. Check lumber yards like Honsador. They are a Pacific Northwest lumber mill. They would be directly effected by this. Home depot sells a lot of stuff, they balance prices across departments.

I can't predict what may happen here. Most likely, more inflated pricing eventually. When it comes to package homes, you can buy now and have the good delivered at a later date.

To be honest I don't know if lower lumber prices will even do anything, demand is still too high to get prices to come down. People are convinced the fed is gonna cut rates back down to zero. I think we're seeing another 2008 bubble with a lot of speculation. My worry right now is, with pretty much all asset prices being inflated, the crash may be significantly worse than most people think it will be. But I guess we'll see!

The 2008 crash was driven by financial institutions and shaky loans. The rising rates are not encouraging people to borrow. If you have liquid capital it is a good time to lock down materials. What over production of lumber will mean to the economy at large is questionable. My point was get the wood while the getting is good, if you need it.

I was at Lowes today cause our dryer kicked the bucket. I didn't check the lumber prices. I did find a sign of awareness. I found Ruby Supreme Guava, Acerola, White Jade pineapple (yeah) purple possum passionfruit and Natural Mystic Dragonfruit all for my area. This is mainstream Bill and I am set up and almost ready to surf that wave. Just a little more paddling before it's surfs up.

When I did this video a month back lumber prices were falling. What comes next is anyone's guess. Lumber is like stocks, constant change. Most folks end up paying what ever the materials are worth at the time they build. You only buy the materials once. As far as I know prices are still down due to over supply. If you lock in the materials for the plan now you may save. I would be moving fast if you intend to benefit from the lumber glut.

I used to grow the herb in CA. My opinion of the plants culture was that there is no point trying in Puna. It is a temperate herb and deciduous. It also requires dry weather. We have no winter and no dry weather. It might grow here but my judgement says it would be a problem.
