1/3 of Canadian mortgages holders have variable rate mortgages. With amortization periods in the 50-80 year range but with renew periods of 5 years. A $7500 monthly mortgage payment is a reasonable outcome given those facts. Those who choose variable rate 5 years ago and need to renew now are screwed, badly. Beyond screwed. Where have you been for the last 2 years?

The truth is that the GDP/deficit ratio was 49.83 percent in 2022. Putting it in perspective if you were to apply for a mortgage you would not get financing if your debt service ratio exceeded 40%. The Liberals are refusing to provide numbers in 2023. I imagine that those numbers are worse now otherwise the Liberals wouldn't be dodging this question. I'm sure PP knows what the numbers are and is trying to get the Liberals to say them. Trudeau looked really rattled by PPs questioning, I would say that means really bad news.

Owners are in the extreme top wealth brackets and nearly everybody else struggles, lives paycheck to paycheck, can't afford $1000 emergency and debt is always a threat. The system is the sickness. Bad politicians are just unfortunate symptoms.

Housing prices and rents cannot come down without a surplus. Tens of thousands of units are constructed each year. More than a million are required. A variety of spurious pretexts are employed in order to deceptively justify placing a halt on the further use of land, deliberately keeping housing in short supply. Those that come out in protest are the unwitting victims of a _con job_ that falsely believing will secure their future ensures their demise. Canada has 895,000,000 acres of forest that is a fraction of its total territory. None may be spared for housing. Before persons are admitted to public office, whether elected or employed at any level, they should be placed under oath and required to swear to the truth of their response to these questions: _Is your ulterior motive in becoming a public servant to place a halt on the use of the land resource? That was not promised to Canadians? That will cause home prices to skyrocket and shunt the lifetime earnings of citizens exacted through rent directly into the pockets of the chosen few? Unjustly enriching them and leaving residents impoverished and homeless?_
