UA is currently using the 787 on proving runs within the United States before it goes international. Its currintly running round trips between EWR, ORD, SFO, and LAX.

Of course. That makes way more sense. Hydraulic boost pump for those high power functions. Thanks, it's funzies to figure stuff like that out. I of course love all the sounds giant airplanes make. When I was a kid in the 60's, those nonstop summer trips between Seattle and St Louis on Eastern 727's (Whisperjet!) in addition to those cool JT8D engines with their pneumatic fan frequency buzzing, made really cool jetsons motor sounds extending those magnificent flaps...

City of Newark started construction this Airport in the 1920's. Many aviation 1st's occured here, but history books name it NY very often. When the NY mayor in the 1930's learned upon landing in Newark that NY had no Airport, he immediately had one built and it was named after him, La Guardia. Newark Airport expanded southward into the City of Elizabeth, where Newark leases the land, making up approx. 30 % of the Airport's land area. Newark has surpassed JFK on occasion as the NY metro area's busiest airport The City of Elizabeth wishes now it would have built this modern Airport facility with the City of Newark during the expansion phase. He who hesitates is lost, lol ! Happy and safe flying !

Feb. 11 I flew Houston to Newark - it took 2 hours and 35 minutes, we were really moving - it was in an A319.

@ 5:50, you can see the LED screen of the Prudential Center arena in the background. Home of the NJ Devils! Landing in Newark is quite uneventful, except on a clear day when you can see the NYC skyline. Newark is a nice airport. Friendly people there too.

It's interesting how on the triple-7 and the 7-8, the inboard aileron functions as a flap as well, resetting its default position to match that of the flaps, but deviating to control roll. That's different from the 747, where the inboard aileron stays flush with the wing body even as the flaps lower around it. I can picture the "wait a minute..." moment in the design studio:)
@kimjong-un200110 жыл бұрын
747 wasnt a fly by wire aircraft and it also dosnt really need flaperons as it has massive triple slotted flaps These days things are more efficient, ailerons are also used to augment lift, dump lift on touchdown to augment the spoilers (A380 and 787) and gust and load alleviation

interesting, the hydraulic pumps were running the whole time while the flaps were retracted. on other planes they stop running when fully retracted but here they must have been keeping the pressure up for them to stay down.

Not sure if it's to compensate for any effects of the landing gear - it may just be to add drag on approach so the aircraft will have the engines partly spooled up in case of a missed approach. I can imagine what a slick airplane this must be and how tough it is to slow down...

The cockpit door on the 787 would not secure in IAH so we had to wait three hours for a part to be flown in from ORD and installed before we were able to depart. Luckly I was going back to IAH on the same aircraft so I did't really miss anything.

I don't think the wing flex will be an issue. I've read that the wings on the 787 are actually stronger than previous models of Boeing planes because of the more flexible yet much tougher material and the incorporation of Carbon fiber into the wings. Being slightly curved up and back in the end, give the plane better control. I have no idea if it's true. But I haven't read any RECENT news of the 787's experiencing wing fractures.

Very smart move on their part.

4:50 Did I really just see the outboard aileron and spoiler compensate for the landing gear coming down? If so, that is some insane software running this airplane.

Nice quiet jetliner. Except for the howling flap/slat/main gear drive motor. Have Boeing engineers heard of helical gears?
@JordanSkok12 жыл бұрын
Landing wasn't too rough comparitively to the 737's I usually fly on.It does seem to instantly nose down on touch down. As for the wing flex everyone is freaking out about how much it flexes... I really didn't think it was that much.

Amazing new plane and so sleek looking, but one thing bothers me after viewing many 787 clips, that of the constant high-pitched whine that seems to be present throughout all the clips, and would drive me nuts being on board. The noise of flaps being extended is fine, as is the "plastic model" appearance of the wing, but not the whine...
@AmericaWest9010 жыл бұрын
Why does that hydraulic pump sound continue from 4:51 until landing? It also makes this sound on takeoff but even when flaps are up, the sound persists for about one to two minutes. Can someone help me here?
@PilotUTA7 жыл бұрын
The system logic is such that after the initial movement of the flap handle on approach, the Electric Demand pumps stay on until after landing. Similarly for takeoff, they stay armed for ~2 minutes after flaps are retracted to support the flight control movements on initial climb.
