I mean it helped my grandparents. It kinda saved them from breaking their fragile spinal chords and such so I guess it's useful for the elderly/disabled.

I actually remember reading comment on here saying a lot of these products are designed for the disabled and elderly, but since they'd sell poorly and be too expensive as a result of the low demand, they market them to the general public to help subsidise the cost.

vjpearce Yeah, I have a serious back problem and I try and minimise bending as much as possible because it causes me a lot of *pain* as well as other complications. The thing is, they advertise these showing people who are ostensibly able-bodied and so I can see where the confusion comes in. To a certain portion of the population, though, this thing is a GODSEND.

Here in the USA its called swifter, and it works great, never used a normal mop before just push the button and wipe the kitchen floor, and its not even that wet when you stand on it if you be a bit through, and the end literally takes 5 seconds to change as for cost, I have no idea also for storage, we just put in the closet and keep it the way it is, it has a pad on and the cleaning fluid in it all the time

A swiffer. Solves the problem of "I only need to clean my kitchen and I don't want to fill a bucket, put in cleaner, mop the floor, clean up the bucket and the mop, dry mop, then put everything away" It's throwing away the pad that makes the product, because it means I never mop with a dirty mop. For small jobs it's infinitely better than a regular mop. For light jobs, in small areas, it's awesome. For bigger jobs you need a mop or you'll run through a few pads and then it doesn't seem worth it.

Living in an apartment with only a small floor area I love my Swiffer Wet Jet. no need to pull the fluid out between uses. the pads do a great job without having to push hard on the floor, and are easy to change..just drop the pad and stick the mop on top. I use dollar store batteries (come 4 in a pack) and even pads are available there from time to time.

I have this mop. Mine is called the 'Swiffer sweeper mop', (I live in America, btw). Mine cost $25 USD and came with 20 pads and 2 bottles of floor cleaner as well. I actually love this mop for little, everyday cleaning or for small drips or spills. That said, it's not for a deep cleaning, and the pads are gone through incredibly fast. But, it's not a BAD mop... I LOVE my swiffer sweeper instead of a broom, too.

I actually really like this. It doesnt really do much in my own house, i dont have enough tile space for it to be useful, but when i worked retail it was fucking great. It was a boutique that was normally carpeted, but then it was remodeled to be ablout half fake-wood. Having that mop was awesome and kept the floor clean without havign to drag the giant bucket into the tiny little employee bathroom sink, didnt splash it fucking everywhere and sped up the time. so more worrying about spilling on the carpet, no more pain in the ass chore we immediately ruin with our shoes, no more nasty filthy mop that just spreads grey water around. So there are situations where thats an awesome as hell product.

I used to use a butterfly mop, so the only bending involved was moving the bucket, though I can see that being a challenge for the elderly. My old job was a Jiffy Lube, and to avoid risking oil transferring off the mops to present a slip hazard in the waiting area and public bathroom, the boss chose to use a Swiffer Wet Jet instead of dealing with getting a separate mop and bucket. It did a poor job, but did remove enough dirt to make it a tolerable option. I now live somewhere with a very tiny bathroom and where filling a bucket is difficult due to the only real place I can fit a bucket to fill it is under a low flow shower head. The damn thing does a poor job, but it does make it bearably clean, just clean enough to be tolerable; though it is bloody expensive to use one if you buy the off brand pads and stuff; and insane if you buy the brand name pads and fluid.

*raises hand* Yes. Yes it is absolutely worth it. We have Swiffer's model of this and the occasional pad change and replacing the bottle when it runs out are NOTHING compared to the ease of using it - hell changing things can be done sitting down somewhere. My mom and I have bad backs so anything that make it less necessary to bend over is a Godsend. And it works so much faster than our old method of spraying cleaner on the floor and then going over it with a wet mop and bucket. That didn't even WORK half the time. You don't even really need to take out the bottle when you're not using it, at least not on our model. It stays put.

I had a swiffer mop, which is the same thing. It's not terrible, for light cleaning, IE a quick clean in front of the stove after cooking. It's quicker than drawing a bucket of mop water, pouring in the chemicals, etc. But if you need to properly clean your whole kitchen, it's not worth it. I got it for a small apartment with a small linoleum kitchen, and the rest was all carpet, so a full on mop was not the best, and took more room with it's bucket to store. After moving into a semi-detached house, it gets far less use. It would be great for hardwood, a friend used to borrow it to dust his hardwood floors once a month, he seemed to like it. What I actually use it for now is cleaning the ceiling in the kitchen. If I could modify it to spray upside down it would be perfect for removing cooking residue from upper walls and the ceiling.

The Swiffer Wetjet changed the way I clean and I am spending less time to get it done. The bottle is supposed to stay in it's place between cleaning cycles, so there is no need to remove it until it's empty. It's a bit pricey but for me, it's worth it.

That mop is great for spot mopping so if you got tiles or lino/wooden flooring and you just want to do a quick speed clean/spot clean that yes it saves time and is great when you have children. It is big as in not folding but most people put cleaning products and mops in a cupboard so its out the way.

Target used to sell off brand pads that fit the Swiffer Wet Jet, but not the fluid bottles. Walmart and Target now both carry generic pads but not bottles, and that could save you a few bucks when you need to refill; that is where Swiffer gets you! The pads and the fluid is bloody expensive! I used up the brand name pads in a month or two as I toss the pads after every use. The brand name ones of damn expensive. I used to get butterfly mops for between $5-10, with replacement sponges for between $2-5. I would swap them out once a season or when they got gross. A 5-10gallon bucket was close to $5. A bottle of off brand pinesol was well under $5 and would last me more then a year mopping a whole apartment once a week. That's $15 for a mop and bucket, $12.50 for sponges, and $5 for cleaning solution for over a year of cleaning all the floors in an apartment. $32.50 for over a year, and my costs were much higher for those items than many parts of the country. I had to downsize where I lived, so I bought a the Swiffer Wet Jet to clean the bathroom left to me as most of the rest of the space was carpet. I have to buy batteries, and mine go every 1-2 months. In a year I have almost gone through $10 in just batteries, let alone pads or fluid! I decimated a $10 box of pads, and used up a $5 bottle of solution just keeping a tiny closet sized bathroom clean for a year. In just consumables for the Wet Jet, I blew about $25 in about a year, excluding the mop kit, and that's to clean an area a tiny fraction of the apartment I used to live in! If you expect the mop itself to last about two years before it breaks or wear out, and it cost about $35 (mine was more expensive with tax), I spent over $42.50 in a year cleaning an area less then 10% the size I was cleaning for under $32.50 a year. You have a legit challenge to using a regular mop and bucket in that room, so the convenience well makes it worth the added cost; but the Wet Jet is damned expensive when you compare it to the alternatives.

I know this video's old, but really, products like this one (I have one with a machine-washable pad and an easy-to-fill, trigger-squeeze to use, non-electric sprayer) are hugely more effective for cleaning up spills than getting a paper towel and getting down on your hands and knees to scrub the floor, and WAY more useful than a traditional mop (get a bucket, fill with hot water and cleaning solution, drain/squeeze out excess liquid, mop spill, put everything-- including your now soppy wet mop-- back away). Also, immediately after cooking something like bacon that sprays grease on the floor, grabbing this mop from a supply closet and making quick work of the cleanup (for the floor, at least) is great.

Wow, that's an unbelievable product right there. I imagine that - even disregarding the extra time spent replacing batteries, pads, removing and replacing the cleaning solution, et cetera - the collective amount of time it took for everyone involved in the creation of this mop to conceptualize, design, and advertise this thing adds up to become more than the amount of time everyone who bought this thing or will ever buy it will save by using it.

I honestly liked the Swiffer pretty well compared to a regular dust mop, so when they added a little spray thing on to them with cleaning solution, I was really happy. Before that (at my house), it was step 1: use the Swiffer, step 2: clean the kitchen floor on your hands and knees with a sponge and a bucket of water. This thing made cleaning a lot easier for me. But I will tell you what didn't: the Swiffer vac. That vacuum could never hold a charge, hardly had any suction power, and only worked on hard surfaces. The only useful part was the standard Swiffer pads. It's better and easier to just bring in a real vacuum, especially since they make small maneuverable vacs nowadays.

My mom has a mop kinda like this one. But one, it's not battery powered (manual trigger), and two, it uses a reusable pad. The fluid storage is designed for basically any cleaning fluid and a much bigger tank. It's pretty nice for the kitchen since it's just 'oh no, made a mess', grab, and (if it's still got fluid) just go. Yes, the pad needs washed every once in a while, but that can be said for anything really. The lack of a bucket is probably the biggest draw to mom's version.

I have one that works kinda like this. Except I paid a lot more for it and it actually does save me time. It also works. It has a reservoir at the top where you pour your cleaning solution into. The pad itself is a regular flip style latch system that you can attach a regular cleaning cloth to. You just pump once and it sprays out the cleaning liquid. Seeing that I track a lot of crap inside as I use my garage entry 95% of the time and it opens right into the kitchen, I have this thing standing in my pantry ready to go to clean dirt, dust, or mud. Takes me 30 seconds and I don't have to fiddle with a bottle and a rag. I just pull out my mop, squeeze once and swipe a couple of times. It's old now and I really want to find another one but can't seem to find them online.

It solves having to make a bucket of water, dunking the mop, then wringing it out and while that is a path to Laziness for young people for older people and people who don't move so well but still need or want to clean their floors it saves them the trouble of digging out both the mop and the bucket and the cleaner and filling the bucket, and taking the safety cap off the cleaner, and then lifting and pouring the heavy container into the water to mix it, then putting the safety lid back on, then putting it away, then having to dunk the mop into said bucket, then having to bend over and wring out said mop many, MANY times throughout the process of cleaning their floors, then having to lug the heavy bucket someplace to dump it, then putting it all away. Instead they grab the power mop, slap in a ready made cleaner bottle, attach a pad to the bottom, none of which involves having to bend down, and then they can push it across the floor and dispense cleaner at their leisure, PLUS since the mop makes less of a mess it dries faster so it reduces the risk of them falling and when they are done they just lift it up, take the pad off, and put it in storage because I'll guarantee you that nobody and I mean NOBODY takes the cleaner jug off when they put it away, as for the potteries those are easy and simple to replace as well.So for seniors and those who cannot move very well it's a great product, but for everyone else it's just being lazy.

I don't have to change out the bottle until it is empty, I can just throw out the "rag" when done instead of having to periodically wash the mop top, I've seen others say it can't deep clean but i have no problem with a little extra oomph. I substituted the brand name rag replacement with regular and save money this way. I don't have to hurt my hips and sacrum by lifting/carrying/draining mop water. So, yeah, I'm good.

One is a knock off of the other, though don't know which came out first so can't really say which is the knock off. I do have a version myself though the one I have has a reusable/washable microfiber pad. works great on the laminate floors at my place. While I agree it's not way better then a regular mop and bucket. but lets take a look at the other side of the coin, you said it costs about 20 pounds, which last I checked was about $30 I've seen regular mops got for about $10-15 and the fluid costing $5-10 for the bottles that are similar size to the one in the video so that means a price difference of about $5-10 so really while it's not like a million times better then a regular mop, it doesn't have to be as it's really only slightly more then what a regular mop costs so it only has to be slightly better. As for the arguments about it getting dusty and not folding up, regular mops (especially the cheep ones) have the same problems to the same degree so that's really a non issue. Certainly this isn't the mop to replace all other mops, but judged in comparison with other light duty mops it comes out to average on the price vs performance scale. so it's not really that bad of a product either.

As many Americans have said, that is an over priced swiffer and it does have an amazing use. Dealing with back pain/mobility problems, and the fact it works lovely for spot mopping. Sure its bulky, but so is a regular mop, and its far from a new product, having been around since the very early 2000s (wikipedia says 99, but from what I can see the products dropped in 01/02 at earliest)

The only advantage to the Swiffer Wet Jet/Flash Power Mop is avoiding having to mix and dump a bucket of cleaning solution, and having to store it. Got a tiny bathroom that I use the stupid mop for. It doesn't save money, but it does save time and energy because of the bucket and mixing it. I only have a shower with a low flow shower head, so to get a few gallons of water out to fill a bucket does take ages. (Putting a dirty floor mop in a kitchen sink where you prepare food is pretty repulsive). Also avoids having to dry the mop before storage, and the chemical cabinet is not well ventilated. For small spaces where water handling is awkward, it has some advantages that could deal with the increased cost. That said, it doesn't do quite as good a job as sweeping and regular mopping with a bucket followed by mopping with clean water to rinse the floor. Now, a home version of the industrial floor cleaners might be worth a damn as that would do a better job and might be faster since there is no ringing out a mop if someone had a lot to mop. www.cleanfreak.com/trusted-clean-quench-wet-push-vacuum.html?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI69vGhqLp1gIVh0OGCh2fewHqEAYYAiABEgKQfPD_BwE It would only be slightly faster then a regular mop on very large floors, but it could be made with a rinsing section to pick up cleaning residue, would keep the dirt separate from what's going on the floor, and could have built in scrubbers or potentially steam cleaning bits. Such a contraption would only be useful for insanely large families, insanely dirty families, or OCD germaphobic people.

I have a similar one, that has just a spray and little part that you put water in and can add cleaner if you want to. Not as cumbersome as the one you have there. However, although a friend of mine swears by it and has never had a mop and bucket in her life, I find that the removable pad underneath, gets so dirty after going over a little part of floor, that you have to keep changing them, or all you are doing is transferring dirt from one part of the room to another. I have Karndean and laminate all through my house, no carpet and hoover and sweep every day, so technincally, there should not be much dirt on the floor. However, for me the good old mop and bucket is better, as, as soon as I wash one part of my floor, I always rinse and clean the mop, before putting it back in the bucket, before washing the next part of the room, otherwise you are just ending up washing the floor with the dirt you cleaned off from the first part. I have a large through lounge, so it is quite a large area to clean.

See, those sorts of mops are only really intended for light messes, like if you spill some flour on the floor while baking, or you have a leaky juice container. It's not something you use to scrub caked-on mud off the hardwood. The cleaning fluid is really only necessary so there isn't any residue from sugary liquid spills that'll get sticky after it dries.

No more spending on their custom cleaning cartridges! I just leave the cartridge in always, doesn't seem to do any harm. The pad still sucks though, no absorption at all.

I had a manual pump version of one of these and I always thought I should cut open the container glue a bit of pvc in it and run it up the side of the handle and install a simple easy to remove pipe plug on the top it would be far easier than bending down and refilling would require no effort at all. I know it wouldn't save me anytime but bending down and cleaning shit is a chore and you end up getting covered in dirt and dust and cleaning liquid, my only issue with it is replacing the mop part of the mop would still be chore but far faster and easier than cleaning a normal mop.

I think the actual idea behind this was "how do we get people to only ever buy flash". I don't have this mop, so I don't know if you can stick homebrand floor cleaner in it or not, but that's just the impression I got.

rubber maid makes basically the same thing but with cloth pads and a refillable container you can keep in the holder (it also needs no batteries). I like it because there is not so much of a phycological Barrier to using it.

i have a "swiffer" which it looks identical to that. i love it for the convenience i live alone in a small apt and hate the mop and bucket method. the pads i change each use for my full kitchen and living room but i leave one on for small things and just throw it away if i used it. i change the bottle maybe once every two to three months, i mop the kitchen and living room every week. ive had it for years, its held up really well. the batteries i change pretty much about the same time i change the fluid. i have lino floors and it works great especially on lino because you cant soak it. it sprays just enough to clean without residue. as i said i love it but its not for everyone. my sister hates it but she still scrubs her floors with bleach so nothing will really compare to that in her eyes.

I like the idea of changing wash pads over using the same mop all the time for however long before buying a new one. Those pads are cheaper than a new mop, I think.

As a lung patient who likes a clean house and cannot breathe when bending its ideal! with dogs that are now incontinent even better...please think of those that are incapable of doing the'norm' in a house like bending etc, millions are unable to do this and these gizmos and props are great for us...normal folks can do a much better job on hands and knees scrubbing ...easy! This is not lazy this is necessary!! Try losing your lungs and commenting. We need all the help we can muster. My steam mop is way to heavy to make a normal clean for me its reserved for the cleaner! ..like I stated my eldest dog is going lax and my cleaning poop up and wee got even easier and rightly so...thanks for the innovation and handy light cheap effective ways of clean up to Flash..and other products resourceful enough to realise we need these handy items for the disabled.

I agree with everyone who has said it is good for old and disabled another, use is for someone who is busy and does not want to get covered in cleaning fluid everytime the dog or baby make a mess on the floor, pick it up and wipe away the mess you can clean the mop later. Being a young guy I doubt you would think of that either.

I live in an apartment without a utility sink, and since I don't want to pour disgusting mop water into my kitchen or bathroom sinks (and obviously not into the bath tub) I have something similar to this (except it isn't electric and simply uses disposable pads pre-wetted with the cleaning solution and was therefore less expensive). If I had a larger apartment which also lacked a utility sink I would probably get the one which sprays cleaning solution. So for anyone without a good place to pour dirty mop water this is actually quite useful and solves a real problem (in my opinion at least).

The replaceable pad is a good idea generally because I think people complained before of how regular mops got stinky when its used multiple times. Seems legit. The only part I think that is a bit sketchy is the part of needing batteries. Another thing to get the mop to work, yea?

Now yes I totally agree that trying to replace a mop with this item is ridiculous but if you had wood floors like I did at one point it's quite useful. If you have real wood floors then you can't use a mop with Cleaning Solution on it as your risk getting water into the wood and making it swell and deform. But at the same time wood floors get dirty very fast. I used the Swiffer version of this and not only did I like using it I thought it was much easier than having to get on my hands and knees with a well rung out washcloth and a towel. I guess you could say it was slightly annoying having to change the pads when it got too dirty or having to take the cleaning fluid out. And I did have to put up a special hook to hang it up. But the time it's saved me cleaning is something that was well worth the price and upkeep

Some floors you can't use a regular mop on because it makes the floor too wet, like my kitchen/dinning room/den it has a floating floor system, and manufacture says don't use a normal mop, but this aka Swifter here in America is a great thing as I just put the wet pad on, and clean the whole floor with about 3 pads. Brilliant thing it is. :-)

I have one and love it! I don't buy them. Instead they show up by the trash bins and I grab them. So far I haven't had to spend a single penny on anything including batteries. The fluid can be refilled by cutting a hole in the top of the bottle and pour some new cleaning fluid in. However I find a lot of these thrown away.

I have this mop and yes, I love it. I refill the bottle with my own cleaning product (ironically Flash), the batteries last ages and I bought reusable pads from Amazon. I only ever take the bottle out to refill it, it doesn't leak if I leave it in. I hang it in the cleaning cupboard with my other cleaning equipment, it takes up much less space than a smelly string mop and bulky mop bucket. Has it changed my life? No, it's a mop for heaven's sake, not a lottery win.

These mops ARE a better alternative to a regular mop. If you've ever used a regular mop and had to deal with a pail of dirty water (and probably a wringer, as well), this is a lot less of a hassle. It does save time and energy. It doesn't save money, as you have to buy the solution and the pads, but that's the trade-off.

I've got a classic cotton fiber wet mop and bucket I spent 20 bucks on it and I've had it for about a decade now. Only had to replace the head twice. The best thing about it is because you have to get a bucket of solution to use it you're more inclined to just say fuck it and clean every god damn hard surface in your house on the same day. Heads are machine washable and last forever if you make the slightest effort. One thing. It's big. It's for big spaces and requires a lot of storage. Sometimes the classics are all we need though.

i remember a few years back my family owned a mop similar to that but it used a different spray device similar to that of a spray bottle that didn't need batteries and had a sponge for a scrubber so you could just wash that bit off and the cleaning stuff didn't need to be taken out when you were done seems like a better option than that.

So I do agree that it's crappy in the fact that you have to change everything out and remove items when not in use but when you really have a need for it like I did when I lived with my parents it can be very useful. My parents had a house that had at least 90% wood floors. Now along with wood floors being Dusty they also get very dirty very quickly. We had both the duster version and the wet version like you had and it made life a lot easier because a vacuum isn't very effective on a wood floor and you don't want to use a mop because you can destroy the wood floor if it's real wood. This unit allows you to spray only the amount you need and then quickly pick it up with a pad that's going to immediately pick up the dirt. It's expensive to use if you compare it to other items and it really only serves one purpose but it does that purpose very well. It was my job at the house to keep the floors clean and I honestly compared to the other method that my parents were using it was ten times easier. Trust me I thought it was a piece of crap also but it at least serve the purpose that it was purchased for.

I have another version of one of these mops, mine the pads are washable, the tank it hard plastic and put my own water/cleaning shit in it. and it comes apart if a mash a button really hard. My home is rather small, a normal mop would be worse. I also have pets, a normal mop takes too long to wring out and I have to touch it with my hands to wring it out. Or have one of those large buckets with the handles and compartments like in schools or offices. The pad can be pulled off in a second and just tossed in the washer. I don't put my hands in poo-y or pissy water to clean my mop. In short, mops like this have changed my life. In short term, I'm cleaner, my home is cleaner, and healthier for the convenience this kinda mop gives.

I read an article on Ron Popeio (I know I spelled that wrong) the man who wrote the book on selling sh!t. One of the rules that he created was one that Mike here questioned is was it ever a problem to begin with. The answer is of course "no" but to sell such products, one of the first things you do is to create the illusion of the problem. "Are you tiered of struggling with the can opener" or "do you get backaches over doing such and such". The answer is of course not but the idea is to get you thinking that this is indeed a problem that other people might have, then the sale of the idea that this product is something that will improve your life and that you cannot live without this new product. Whether it is true or not is a different story.

I had a Swiffer before. It is easier, yes. It's a lot less time-consuming than a mop, but it wasn't worth the money for me. The $20 wasn't so bad to get it, I just didn't want to have to keep on sinking money into it to keep on using it. Also, I noticed it doesn't get the floor any cleaner than a mop. Only thing it has going for it is how easy it is.

I don't change the pads that often actually. Not to mention I only buy the knock off pads. Got a pack of 20 in the bathroom counter I've had for a year now and I'm around 2/3rds through. As for cleaning fluid refills, I never buy refills. When my current fluid runs out, I cut a hole at the top of the bottle, prepare my own cleaning solution, and patch the hole back up with duct tape. Have never needed to change the batteries either. Personally I love this thing.

The solution bottle i refill with a cheaper floor cleaner. from Poundland. I also use it wit floor wet wipes if i dont want to soak the floor.. I see that Flash new have a New mop out that uses wipes that you press the corner edges into holes on the head. so no batteries or liquids. May be do a follow up wit the new mop to see if its an improvement ??

This same product is called a Swiffer Wet Jet in North America. I've only seen college kids and trashy people rely on them. I have tried it, and it's 100% pointless-- a regular sponge mop is cheaper, more durable, less clunky, and actually *more* effective. I also used to work as a janitor, and do a lot of building maintenance right now-- I'd never bother with this in any heavy duty cleaning situation.

I have a Swiffer Wet Jet. I love it. I have muscle pain, and not having to bend down is a big deal. Plus, no more buckets of filthy water and having the disposable pad means REALLY clean floors. The size of the thing is no bigger than a regular mop that I would have to store anyway. Your rant is obviously said by a healthy male who probably doesn't clean many floors I'm guessing. So while many of the products reviewed are silly...this particular one, is not. I think it is wonderful.

I had one after TheWife(TM) bought it; it was shit. It leaked if you stored it loaded with the cleaning fluid, it did collect a lot of dust and take a lot of space in the closet and you needed new pads each time. It worked poorly on the real hardwood floors or on textured tile, worked better in the bathroom on mosaic but didn't get into the grout. Get a rag mop & bucket and move on.
