Or better yet, buy them ice cream or an ice cream maker. The only kids I know who'd want to eat mashed up frozen fruit with no sugars mixed in are the kind whose parents and super, duper controlling about what they eat and the kid's never had ice cream or processed food ever. (And those are the kind of kids whom, once they're off to college, are going to pork out on everything their parents denied them. If not doing it in high school behind their parents' backs. Like the boy of a super controlling vegan mom I knew growing up who'd go to Sizzler for the All You Can Eat Ribs every chance he could get.)

I remember a trick I used for my. Old shaved ice machine that did this. Less preasure helps. You would need to to crank longer but it would reduce strain on the thing. I sometimes think that the problem with a lot of these devices is that they make them of the cheapest materials possible. If this thing were made of stainless steel, with a long, sturdy handle for plenty of torque, and a heavy base to hold the thing in place, it might actually work, even if it would just produce frozen-fruit pulp, not sorbet. Instead, they make it entirely out of plastic, so it breaks after about a minute.

I had the same flashbacks many have had to Mr Frosty. It's so sad, because it's a concept that has seen at least three incarnations now, and not one has really worked. I feel bad, because I can understand kids wanting to make things. As a kid, I just learned to cook. My parents wanted me to know, so I handled a blade by the time I was in my teens, and I could make a decent meal or follow a recipe with good results. This is a situation where you teach the older kids to use a blender or similar device, and it will make the thing for you faster and just as safely, like removing the container from the motor before you scoop out, which you're liable to do, anyway.

To be fair, it does make sense for the designers to make the grinding components plastic, you wouldn't want some kid putting their hands in there and getting hurt. I remember a childhood friend of mine had one of these ice grinders with metal parts. He put his hand in and turned the crank just to see what would happen and by the time he realized what he was doing he had already ground up his arm up to the elbow. It took the combined effort of both his parents to stop him when he was halfway his other forearm.

Who the hell thought that it was a good idea to just plug this thing together with a plastic collar and not even secure the crank handle in place if you force ice through it? God damn. At least use a metal crank handle so it doesnt snap off within two seconds, or bolt it onto the twisty thing.
@piranhacupcake51546 жыл бұрын
If you like this type of sorbet you should try "Yonanas". It's the same basic idea of crushing frozen fruit, except it's competent at it's job and is electric so it does all the work for you! :D
@PyroX7927 жыл бұрын
This is just a guess but I wonder if Mike was pressing down too hard on the top part putting downward force on the rotating grinder pin thingy. Maybe if he just put the fruit in and then turned the crank without pushing down it might have worked really well. Just a guess. It can't be THAT bad.
@jimstanley_497 жыл бұрын
He didn't let the fruit sit out "20 minutes before start". Given that the fruit was still frozen solid, he *was* pressing down with too much force. For being misused the thing was actually working pretty well until he decided the remedy was *moar power!* He could have added a bit of water help defrost and lubricate and it would have worked beautifully.

@ZeroTron5 жыл бұрын
They probably wanted you to take the fruit out of the bag for the defrosting procedure, but that design is fundamentally flawed. The threads are way too shallow so when it inevitably deforms from resistance it pops straight off by simply skirting around the threads. They should've made those at least twice as deep, used a metal insert or not used threads at all to hold that piece on.

I had a Mr Frosty as a kid but it never worked...I think my ice cubes maybe needed defrosting a bit 😂 seriously the ice was too hard and the handle wouldn’t turn to ‘grate the ice’ and so the handle kept jumping off.
