They weren't ahead of their time. That whole commie-PC thing we have today we've had for a LONG time. By the time this album came out we'd had that Lefty nonsense noose around everyone's neck, and it was well established. Think about it: the IBM PC was announced in August of 1981. This album came out in 1992. All these elder Lefty PC statesmen were hippies in the 1960s. This crap has been raining down on us normals for a LONG time. Too long. I know, I WAS THERE.

If you’re talking about the subtle references in politics, it’s not prophetic if history always repeats itself and we learn nothing from our mistakes in history. If you’re talking about the music, there have been plenty of European bands that have been using this similar style and been doing it years before IS. At least IS did their part in exposing Americans to the sound.

I don't think the lyrics were "lost on people" when this came out. This album wasn't very popular. "Hack," the follow-up to Information Society's eponymous album with the smash hit What's On Your Mind killed the band's momentum. This masterpiece came out when Grunge was just coming out & dominating musical airtime. A brilliant album by smart people lost on the ears of jaded Seattle-sound devotees.
