Great Video clip! Sorry for butting in, I would love your opinion. Have you considered - Schallingora Information Investigation Scheme (just google it)? It is an awesome one off product for learning what you need to say to get hired in a job interview minus the headache. Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my mate finally got great results with it.

If you don't know the answer in the interview, BE HONEST! I just had a technical interview at the beginning of the month. It was about 20 questions. I stressed my self afterwards because I didn't know 3 or 4. I got a call back and they said I had done an amazing job regardless. Just something to keep in mind

A big problem wit many IT jobs is the following: 1. The descriptions are unrealistic in a lot of jobs. Many times they're not even required by the job, you're suppose to do. A lot of this is, because of non-IT people writing the description. 2. Many times you aren't even interviewing with the IT Staff, which makes it hard to know what the job requires.

I had an interview about two months ago where the Team Lead was trying to explain to me why a CCNA wasn't that beneficial. Fast Forward.. in person interview they gave "a real scenario that occurred with the company" months prior.. in which I resolved the problem literally within 5 minutes. They had a client in which they could not figure out connectivity issues.. they were not using the correct subnet mask. This very same lead also wanted to make a point to me that Windows is worthless and Mac was the golden standard. I disagreed.. lol.. I never got an offer. Even the applied questions/answers from the interview questions were just flat out wrong. You hit the nail on the head. Non IT people do not write the job descriptions. They are the interviewers and hiring managers now!
@whiskeyshots
@whiskeyshots 4 жыл бұрын
I'll give you my two favorite questions I ask people when I interview them. 1) I give the scenario about a computer not being able to get to the internet, but I'm not looking for an answer, I'm evaluating your troubleshooting methodology. There is no solution, I just want you to step through everything you would do to diagnose the problem. 2) "A user asks you to help them forward their company email to their personal Gmail. How do you handle that?" Hint: I'm not looking for a technical solution on this one. I'm looking to see if you will question whether something should be done or not.

Hi Zac, I recently graduated from technical college with 3.97 GPA I studied IT help desk support specialist which was total of 45 credits, I did total of 51 credits. So I have taken courses from Apple, windows, office, etc. I did a paid internship my final semester. I just interview for a part time Geek squad advance repair technician. You talk about your verbal thought process that is my weakness, lack experience in customer service, speaking on phone is another weakness. My problem is verbalizing what my skills are, I tend to answer 1-2 word answers vs to giving examples of my intern work experiencs or what I have learned in college. I am struggling with finding IT job due to my lack of work experience even though I have 3 yr technical Diploma. So it is discouraging to go to technical college, graduated with honors but now struggle with job interviews and finding the right job environment that will fit my needs without causing me to come overwhelmed or cause anxiety. Many want years of experience which is hard to get if nobody gives you the chance to be able to build up the years of experience.

After most interviews, employers have already made up there minds if they are going to make you an offer or not so I don't even bother following up anymore. You have to remember interviewing is a 2 way street, and there were plenty of employers who I didn't want to work for anyways so I was glad to never hear from them again and I've also turned down offers.

I have sat on a few of the interviews as a panel. Most of the time, we select a candidate for the job is based on their personality and how they will work well with the existing clients we support. Most interviewees are totally qualified for the job based on the resume. Thus, it is not about that they are not qualified like you said, they already landed the job interview. :) with interview practice, the interviewee can show more of their "natural" personality.

What kind of questions? Do you have any education in IT. I sadly have about 40 more credit hours passed than a bachelors degree from transfering only have associates degree, been leaning how to code the last few months, made a killer website the last week, and feel like there will never be job openings around me in the field for my level unless I go to scholl again, eventhough most programmers are self taught. It's BS

Something I would like to add: be personable. It's one thing to have the knowledge, but part of the interview is to assess you as a person. They want to know if you will be a disruptive or untrustworthy employee as well. Don't be afraid to include non-work-related parts if your life. Hobbies, relationships, and personal experiences can be relatable to your work skills. If you can surprise them or stand out somehow, that will go a long way.

What do you suggest I do to move ahead in my security career? 1)Try to get a SOC Analyst Position 2) Stay where I'm at to get more experience under my belt? 3)Move into Data Scientist Role? I do have CISSP and other certs but not the CEH as my current position is mostly creating reports from security appliances and doing reviews.

As a person who is more extraverted, the key is to be able to just talk about network stuff as a conversation and to be likeable. I am one of those people. I can talk to anyone and I'm just a happy guy that everyone generally likes. Out of all the jobs that I have ever interviewed for, I have only not been called back 1 time. I have interviewed for about 60 positions ish in my life. Just sell yourself and be likeable. For some it's natural, for others it is a tremendous weakness. I see this especially these days. This tip however is the BIGGEST thing about the interview. We go through DOZENS of people in my current company interviewing for IT. The reason they don't just jump for anyone that comes in the door? Not tech reasons, but for some reason IT positions bring in the weirdos like BIG TIME. Lol

Hi, Zach. Pertaining to the user not being able to get internet question, would asking if it is wired or wireless connection be considered too complicated or somehow not considered common scenario? I mean most people usually use wireless for laptops no matter where they are. However, some people like me, do use a wired connection when possible even on a device such as a laptop. Is it better to ask that clarifying question or go to the most common scenario for a laptop?

I do have a question, and thanks for the videos they are down to earth and well done. little background before the question. I am currently trying to change my career from electrical an plumbing contracts to a computer networking career. It has been really, really hard to try and get a face to face interview but I managed to get one coming up in 3 days for EOC technician (enterprise operation center tech)at TierPoint. As this is going to be my first IT interview I am questioning what I technical knowledge i should know for the interview? They mentioned a whole bunch of technology I will be exposed to CentOS, VMware, RHEL, MS Server, etc.. I have a working knowledge of those things but no knowledge of using ticketing software? Do you think it would be correct to try and study the ticketing software as oppose to brushing up on all the software they mentioned?

I've had tons of IT tech interviews and they are all a crap shoot. Some are very generic - looking for more personality and interpersonal skills. Then have had straight up 100 question Jepordy tech questions - constant shooting hard core tech questions at you. I think the best thing you can do is prepare for two days before hand on all tech skills they are requiring and know your resume. Then when you get to the interview, just try and stay calm. Good luck.

Watched this video and I gotta call bull on the asking why you didn't get a position part. I have asked almost every single one I've had an interview with and none of them have ever responded to me with an answer. The best I would get if I did get an answer was that they found someone more qualified for the position.

I’m pretty much a beginner to IT and was surprised that I’ll be getting interviewed as an inside sales representative (B2B sales). My knowledge of IT is very little and I’m extremely nervous. My interview is this Thursday oh god. For reference I only did like 1 class of IT years ago bk in high school and did animation as my degree. I love technology and keen to learn more about IT nether less.

I just had an interview today where both interviewers were basically doing all the talking. Happy to say I got the job nonetheless.
