Great video! Helpful to know I don't need a tripod. Wondering though - why can't this look just be replicated in Lightroom on a normal picture as it seems to be just about changing colors?

There are a few IR filters that you can try in lightroom. Generally, though, I think there's no substitute for the real deal. Plus, I think it's more fun in the field!

Thanks. I just bought a filter. Your video is really great bc everyone else talks about doing long exposures and you show that’s not actually needed!

I love your IR landscapes. I hope you do this more and show more of your compositions. This was really an explaination of what IR photography is/was, which was helpful. Now to show the power of IR photography.

You still have hotspot issues on full spectrum conversions, still dependent on the lens. Also note that you probably lose the automatic lens cleaning function (because you took off the cut filter) so dust spots can be an issue. Also need a camera with live-view (if using a dslr) because you can't see through the viewfinder with the dark filters on. Presume its different with Mirrorless). Love my full spectrum photography though and highly recommend.

Converted one of my fuji cameras, never looked back. Great to be able to shoot midday.

I’m hoping I can figure things out to make this happen.

Hi, could you pls share your AF settings to get it to work? I have the same R5 +14-35 but can't get AF to work w the filter on it. Can do MF but would prefer AF. Thanks!!

Huh, are you exposing enough? Increasing iso so scene is properly exposed? Continuous vs single and see which is better

@@MatthewRaifman Think so (1/5, f4, 12800) It triggers the AF but I can never get the green square, always orange. I have to take it off focus priority (AF menu, 4, 2nd row) to get it to take a picture. Can you get the green box? Maybe bc of IR filter the camera doesn't think it is in focus?

Just thought I'd update that it is working for me now. No idea why it wasn't working. Took the lens off and tried it on a R6ii and it suddenly started working. Then I put it back on the R5 and started working there too. It is really great to be able to do this without carrying another camera! Also the noise in B&W takes me back to film days - also cleans up super well w Denoise. Fantastic hack Matthew, thanks for sharing!!!

I'm not very familiar with the technical side of photography, but the way you consistently discuss it in your videos is starting to make me very curious.

FYI: Hotspot issues are only related to the lens and aperture combo. Contrary to what is suggested in this video, converting your camera to IR will NOT solve hotspot issues. (Matthew, do your homework!)

Appreciate you chiming in. I don’t have a converted camera and mentioned that it’s what I thought but wasn’t sure in the video. Certainly don’t want to provide incorrect information though so appreciate you clarifying. It’s sometime hard to get it all right in the field!
