Ditto that! Hubby has a similar allergy to pollinated fruit (tied to hay fever). I’ve made this before and it’s amazing how it does taste like apple pie. Last year he discovered he can eat processed apple pie filling without any issues.

@@bernadettewhitty2313 You guys should check out keto options for apple pie, primarily replacing the apples with chayote. There are also extracts and flavorings that will mimic almost anything, apple is a pretty easy flavor to mimic, so you could add the extract to your chayote pie or crumble. I promise chayote tastes amazing, and I'm not recommending it just because it's an ok keto replacement, it really should be used more in most kitchens.

real talk, i was gifted the Graza "sizzle" oil last year for xmas by either an exec or producer at my workplace as part of a gift bag bundle; at first i thought "...huh, a SQUEEZE bottle, okay, sure", but then after a few uses the oil itself really started to grow on me! then i found out later what the price tag was and hoo boy, no wonder it was an exec that gifted it LMAO since i'm the only one cooking with it, it's still got quite a bit left in the bottle, but given that it's the holidays i'm super stoked i can just use this code to buy these as gifts for my family, so thank youuuuuuuu

An even better option is replacing the apples with chayote. I do not like squash normally, but it's super yummy and what people use on keto to replace apples. You can add an apple extract or flavoring, too, but it's good without it, too, and not just because it's keto friendly. I feel bad we don't eat it enough, it's one of my fave veggies.

lol I might be the oldest one who remembers this recipe on cracker boxes in the 70-80s. It confused me how would depression-era homes have enough money for crackers and butter? Perhaps they lasted longer in pantry than apples and that’s why. Anyway never tried it so cool to see your experience!

Another reason to choose this over apple pie, is that it appears to be less labor intensive and uses mostly pantry stable ingredients. So, if you needed to pull together a dessert with items on hand, this is an option

On one hand, my grandma is probably rolling in her grave as her apple crisp and apple pie recipes were the stuff of legends (as were, in contrast, the severely overcooked Swedish meatballs that even the dogs wouldn't eat). On the other hand, she grew up during the Great Depression and may have done this for all I know.

If anyone has tried this, would you say the texture of the filling is the same as normal apple pie, or is it different? I have a lot of food texture sensitivities [tism] to the point of gagging and being unable to swallow things. I cannot stand any baked goods with cooked fruit. Since Inga mentioned it being more texturally similar to apple sauce, this might be something I could eat!

would say it does have less overall texture than your regular chunky apple pie! especially if you cook the crackers for a little longer

Let me preface this by saying that I’m a fan and this is not meant to be a malicious comment, and is rather coming from a place of concern and confusion. What is going on here?? I’ve always loved Inga’s videos and presentation style since A.T.E. and gladly subscribed to this channel but her video concepts have been getting progressively worse. Viral ramen hacks? Viral rice cooker recipes? Viral 3 ingredient recipes? Now, an apple-less apple pie, which hit a complete new low for me. Not to mention she took a bread baking course in France, and first thing she made upon return were viral rice paper croissants ;( I don’t get it. Are those an attempt to connect with TikTok gen? I root for Inga because I believe she is a very knowledgeable and talented cook and presenter but this is not in the least compelling.
