The fact that Butterfly needs to be sung by a large voiced soprano doesn’t make much sense to me. Butterfly is a naive, young girl. I think Puccini should have written it for a light-lyric soprano. I know even his “lighter” soprano roles like Lauretta and Musetta still require a sizable voice because it’s still Puccini. A light-lyric soprano would have captured all the qualities of a credible Butterfly as opposed to a spinto or larger lyric soprano.

Thanks god she never sung this live on stage! She would had ruined that outstanding natural Instrument Here ,in Studio,she is suprisendly good,a jung woman ,but on live stage Act 2 later and Act 3 would have ruined here Wise woman!

indeed. the role is for spinto soprano, but the aria by itself is quite lyric. I actually prefer it on a softer, more lyrical voice which can convey the necessary youthful brightness.

Zwar sehr rein und glockenähnlich, aber der Ton ist für so eine Oper zu klein und zu farblos. Sie war eben keine Opernsängerin in dem Sinne, obwohl sie das gerne anders verkauft hat.
