It's just that in Greece there was also the official "purified" language called Καθαρεύουσα (Katharevousa) until the 80s, but this song is supposed to be a popular song which is why it has Δημοτική (Dimotiki) dialect, the dialect spoken by common folk. Greek is a pretty conservative language, so anywhere between 1000AD and today, the spoken variation in modern Greece, Cyprus, the Ionian coast of Anatolia and the coast of the Dardanelles (plus European Turkey and and parts of the Bulgarian coast and modern day Southern Albania) can be considered a form of Modern Greek.
