I'm a proud descendant of a Union soldier. I would like to make a comment about your graphic, After Antietam Mclellan sent a report to Lincoln saying that he had driven the invader from our soil. Lincoln was livid! He said it was all our soil. That was the last straw for Lincoln, he fired "Little Mac" as soon as politics allowed. I concur with Lincoln. The whole country should be on the graphic.

Germany and Japan were both very infamous for enslaving and murdering entire populations of so-called inferiors, so this song is very fitting for their actions in the Big War. R.I.P. Nothing about the Union, I am just trying to understand this topic since I am from Europe. How are people that want to make the confederacy their own country "traitors"? Like besides slavery and things like that, they just wanted to form their own nation. USA did the same thing to United Kingdom, and USA even started it by attacking civil ships+ us soldiers were dressed as civillians as well. While confederacy attacked a millitary base, and they didn't kill anyone during that attack. Again, no ofense, I am just trying to understand, have a nice day.
@brandonarmienti77342 жыл бұрын
@@t3cmmc3t23 that's okay I don't expect Europeans to know much about the causes of the American Civil War. But I firmly believe that the States that attempted to secede did not do so legally, which would have required passage of congressional bills. And yes, Some have argued that this secession was similar to the American Colonies ‘seceding’ from England, but that action only stood because the circumstances compelled England to acquiesce to the outcome. Had the south won the ACW, a similar situation would have existed, independent of the legality, which would actually have followed anyway. From a more global perspective, I also believe that it's a good thing that the Confederacy lost the war. In all likelihood had the South won, i believe the following things would have happened: 1) the Confederacy would have broken apart within a generation. It was already showing the strains of this type of government during the war, and things would have gotten worse quickly. The CSA would have fractured into multiple state.2) The Northern States would also have begun to fracture into at least regional entities. During the war there were actually some calls in the North for secession. 3) Given 1 and 2 above, the North American continent would have turned into a mini version of Europe - a collection of states. In fact, that very outcome was predicted by some politicians in the North before and during the war, and was a significant rallying cry to preserve the Union as it was.4) Some might say that such fractionalization would not be a bad thing, but given that the US did not really participate in world affairs much until after the beginning of WWI, it’s hard to imagine how the outcome of the two World Wars could have been as positive as it turned out to be without a UNITED STATES of America involved. The world is a better place without the Confederacy's existence. Not to mention that it was one of the worst causes a human being could fight for.

"Yankee" has an unknown origin. One theory was that it was the nickname that English colonists gave to Dutch colonists since "Jan Kee" (pronounced Yan-kee) was a common Dutch name. Regardless, Yankee Doodle Dandy was a British song that was used to mock the American colonists and gave popularity to the term.
