No one commented on how the Gestapo officer writes Brigette Horney as the person Michael Fassbender's character has to guess. I thought that was always a very nice insight into how cunning the Gestapo officer really is. If you remember, Fassbender's character when being interviewed for the mission by Mike Myers was asked about his knowledge of German cinema under the propaganda ministry of the National Socialist Party. He replied they keep a tight lid on the exportation of their films, so only true Germans will know the films and their stars. As a result, his knowledge of German cinema is limited to before the ascension of the Nazi party. When Fassbender starts prattling on about how he was in a Riefenstahl film, the Gestapo officer made a guess that Fassbender learned German from being a film aficionado who is only aware of the older generation of German movies. As a result, he was hoping the game would continue and he could see whether Fassbender was a real German based on his knowledge or lack thereof of one of the biggest contemporary actresses in Germany at the time.

Responsible for security was the Gestapo (secrete state police). Mostly the officers were also members of the SS or SD. Usually the Gestapo officers had been transferred from the criminal investigation department (Kripo) and were experienced detectives. But replacement was mainly provided by SS men, often fanatical Nazis. For the occupied territories many more Gestapo officers were needed. The rapidly trained replacement officers were often not of the usual quality.

When I play it with my friends we still don't end the game at that point, but simply give the winner a new character and continue the game until everyone got their character right. You can do some really funny stuff, like giving someone his own name. Sometimes it's hilarious to see them struggle to get close to themselves. Or try to give your friend the name of a porn actor. It's a great way to see how many porn actors he knows by name.

yes.... I remember that reaction in the audience.

August Diehl may only act in german but he is one of the finest german speaking actors out there. The Counterfeiter and Hidden Life come to mind.

I never watched this movie, I was talking about what I saw on KZbin, and I found Landa a bit too "womanizer", while Hellstorm is cold, determined, polite, the classical stereotyped and feared German Officer.

You forgot about Hitler and Goebbels in "Downfall" ("Der Untergang" in German). If you didn't see that film you should, it's a masterpiece.

He shall be know as "Suspcious Nazi" from now on. He almost played the same character in the movie Allied. I was like WTF. He will aslways be the "Suspicious Nazi" for me and i dont care if he will get type-cast as "Suspicious Nazi" in all WW2 related movies from now on. He plays this type of Nazi too well.

One little detail I liked is that some names written in the card kind of reflects the writer's mood at the time. Pabst on Hammersmark's head is the German director that Hiccox was talking about his films before this scene (iirc). And Stiglitz was probably so pissed at Helstrom that he names him King Kong.
@rudypepperable2 жыл бұрын
One of the cards said "Mata Hari" - an entertainer who was thought to be a spy for Germany in WWI. A clear allusion to one of the characters in the scene.

I feel like he joined them in order to confirm his suspicions and when Fassbender put up his 3 fingers, it was just the final proof confirming what he already suspected was true. He made it seem like he was just being friendly, when in it was more like a fact finding mission.
