@@forgonachair4177 if you know how to inhale burp well sucking air a little bit through your nose and try to breathe deeply with a lot of space in your throat. try to think about gasping for air, don't try and think to talk like you're inhaling like he describes in the video and try to think about dropping your throat backwards or think about moving your chin backwards and down and moving your Adam's apple downwards if you have one, basically snore with your mouth open and try these techniques and you can get pretty low with not a lot of effort and with practice you can get low. Hopefully I described it well. I could do better if I did a video but hopefully you can do it. Ps don't do this a lot at first it can hurt your vocal cords 3 minutes first starting the practice should be good and drink water.

Subharmonic inhaling is one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. It helps to start in a fairly high inhale chest note, around E3 or F3. Same steps as normal subharmonics, but for inhale, it’s a lot easier to get a second subharmonic out. I have a clip of me going from an inhale G3 to an inhale subharmonic G2 and then to an inhale second subharmonic C2.

It can be very difficult. But it‘s different from person to person. I know people who can do subharmonics inhaled way easier than exhaled. Especially 2nd or 3rd subs. But for me personally, doing them exhaling is easier.

This is a good add on to David's video. A criticism I had about HIS video was that he didn't go into a lot of detail about his experience. He kinda just played with the technique for a few years and then got ridiculously good at it. For me, starting out (about 3 years ago at this point) was horrendous and only in the last few months have I really developed an understanding as to what I've been doing and what has been happening when I've tried to use Inhale Singing. Your video definitely did help illustrate those thoughts for me and I think I have an understanding that I'll now share. On an anatomical level, some people definitely have a predisposition towards being able to inhale sing. It took me about 2 months of practice to even get 1 note out (Bb1) and even more to attempt to expand my range. Even to this day, my Inhale range does not go high at all (minus inhaled whistle which I can do acceptably at times). My typical Inhale range (not including whistle) is about B2-G0. From my understanding, it's due to the type of Inhale I attempted to try early on in my tenure due to its sound. For me at least, it's much easier to activate my false chords while inhaling than exhaling, at least while already singing. As such, I would routinely accidentally activate my fry chords whilst trying to sing a simple chest note while inhaling, hence why it took two months for me to even hit a note. Even then, the only reason I did hit a note, is because, again by accident, I managed to perfectly synchronise my chords so that I was sort of doing inhaled throat singing. At the time, I didn't know what I was doing but I knew that it was the kind of Inhale I wanted to use as its tone, clarity and volume were by far the best of all the kinds of Inhale I used. However, two years on from those days and I'm still working on it. I still have moments when I'll accidentally use inhaled subharmonics or completely misalign my chords so it will sound like I'm drowning in open air. One of the main reasons I've stuck with trying to learn "Inhaled Throat Singing," if you will, is because having access to a technique with that much power and tonal quality seems invaluable. I figured I'd share my experience though as I'd wager there are probably others out there who struggle to separate their fry and regular vocal chords while inhaling due potentially to anatomical structure, air ratio between nose and mouth draw, note placement, vocal exhaustion or potentially a myriad of other scenarios that people haven't encountered yet. Fundamentally, it takes a while to build up the muscle memory and then potentially longer to learn not only how to sing a note, but how to vary that note or change notes. Hopefully my loose account might help someone who's in a familiar state or help spread some more understanding of what can happen with Inhale Singing. Nonetheless, good video mate. 🙂

Thanks mate! It was really interesting to read through your experience. I think it‘s not easy for a person like me, who could do this technique pretty much immediately, to explain how to do it. I simply watched David‘s tutorial, tried it a couple of times and was able to go down in the low 1st octave easily. So it‘s hard for me to imagine how one isn’t able to use the technique immediately. But I tried my best to give some tips that I thought would help. I wonder why some people can do this technique easily and why some struggle really badly... I remember making inhale sounds sometimes as a child while just goofing around so maybe that helped me to already have the foundation in terms of muscle memory. Anyways, thanks again for your comment! I hope some people who struggle with the technique will read this and learn something from it! If I could pin two comments I would totally pin your comment as well...

@@jmbmusic1 It would be really good to have a community of singers who are trying to learn Inhale Singing to share their experiences and what their problems are. I think one of the biggest problems with it, is that it's such a niche technique that the understanding of it is very narrow even amongst seasoned users. In my experience there are 5 styles of Inhale that I've stumbled across. I've even named them just from my own experience. 1. Standard Inhale: Pretty much Inhaled Chest voice. Does sort of sound a bit like fry and I think it does transition into fry much easier and more naturally than exhaled chest voice. 2. Blend Inhale: Essentially Inhaled Throat Bass, again from my own experience and the associated feeling. Has much richer tone, volume, clarity and depth than standard Inhale. Can be difficult to stabilise as it does (at least I think it does) use the fry chords in tandem with the regular chords and it can be a fine line to keep those vibrating in the same 1:2 ratio particularly when changing notes. Nonetheless, practice does make it easier, however rest days are necessary with this style as it can result in tension in the back of the neck or the bridging muscles. As much as I try to avoid using them with this style of Inhale, it feels practically unavoidable. 3. Inhaled Subharmonics: Easily the most powerful technique for 0th octave notes, however, at least for me, is extremely hard to locate the exact positioning to ideally utilise. Can sometimes be literally impossible for me to use. 4. Inhaled Fry: Holds the record for the lowest note I've ever hit which is a D0, according to the tuner app I use. Doesn't possess a lot of tonal quality or volume but with amplification, could probably sound acceptable in a mix. 5. Deep Inhale: Easily the cleanest sounding style of Inhale and can drop below 0th octave notes with proper utilisation. Feels similar to Inhaled Fry and may even be the equivalent of Inhaled Chest-Fry. However it is the quietest of all the Inhales I've tried, only really being able to be heard with me using the "finger over ear" trick to hear with my inner ear to hear what note I'm singing. Easily the richest in tone and quality as it doesn't have that noise and grain that sometimes comes with Inhale. Can be difficult to utilise as part of the resonance is in the mouth and cheeks operate as controls for the airflow. Definitely also the least taxing form of Inhale as well. Your video definitely adds some more food to the table for those hungry for more information about Inhale. Many thanks once again and I'll definitely keep a look out for more information about it. I'd definitely recommend watching Tomi P. He's a very good Inhale vocalist, however he's yet to make a video about it. He's probably one of the only people I know who didn't learn about Inhale from David Larson. 😁

One thing I’ve found for me is that generally if you already have a low voice it’s going to be easier to hit low notes using subharmonics/chest-fry, etc. (with notable exceptions like Tomi P).

Great Video. I haven't watched David Larsons video yet, but yours is already very good. I still have one question: Like for you I found it very easy to "find my ingressive voice", even years before I even knew it is a singing technic (I used it to imitate frogs). After weeks I made the notes sounding quite good (but not loud yet) but I feel like I don't really make progress anymore. I just have a hard time stabilising the notes within the 1st octave area and lower as I feel like I always slip into lower inhale subs without wanting it. Do you have any recommendations for practicing that?
@jmbmusic1
@jmbmusic1 Жыл бұрын
First of all, thank you for the insightful comment! Hmmm, that’s a tricky question… Getting inhale more reliable is something I personally am still struggling with. The only tip I can give you is to keep practicing. Maybe doing scales/slides and stuff like that. And when one note always wants to slip away, practice specifically in that area. At the end of the day you‘re basically trying to solidify your vocal fry (just inhaled) and that’s just insanely difficult. I’m sorry that I can’t give you a better tip or exercise. I still hope that you found this helpful!
