@crpeterman6 ай бұрын
Not to mention her inability to hear what key she's singing in without an instrument to guide her. Her entry notes here are questionable even with a band giving her the sound of the tonality, seems some pitch training is worthwhile either way.

Well it’s obvious here that her voice falls into a new category of “oh yeah you’re voice is pretty!” mixed with current production technology. Horrible voices like hers which sound ever so slightly decent at low volume, lacking any capacity for projection, can be turned decent by autotune and other devices. The standard of voice quality has diminished tremendously because of this.

From a singer: 1) she strains a lot, I noticed this throughout. No wonder it was hard to reach the higher notes on the anthem. Primarily singing in her chest voice, and doesn’t seem to have proficiency in her upper registers to properly belt the higher notes. 2) doesn’t have a lot of control over her voice and seems to have difficulty with runs, which shows she is way too tight with her voice/neck/jaw muscles and doesn’t place her voice properly - causing her not to have control, and causes a lot of STRAINING ugh - can’t imagine how raw her voice gets. She has a lot of potential in her voice. She is a good lyricist, and her voice is great for folk/country songs. She has a great storytelling voice. However, to do a more demanding song, like the anthem, it’s so hard with throaty chest voice singing lacking proper placing and super strainy. And she doesn’t use proper diaphragm breathing which makes belting and control so hard…But she is good at what she does in her career, let’s get that straight.

Thanks for this, totally agree. She might be a great writer and lyricist, no comment there. In terms of vocal difficulty, this is something a choir of 3rd graders would sing. It sounds ok. It is pitchy and shaky on the highest notes here. Lots of nasal heard. And it's a small number of notes. Speaky vocals work for some stuff but certainly not for the anthem. The anthem is a difficult song vocally. After hearing the anthem, I question whether she has had any substantial music or vocal training. There are many talented and trained vocalists (try any college vocal program) who would give a limb to sing the anthem at a large event.

The National Anthem actually requires a larger range vocally. I didn't realize this until a music teacher friend told me. I've sung it multiple times for my alma mater, my local college for mostly basketball games. I knew if I didn't start low enough it would be more difficult but it's one of my favorite songs to sing. Always makes me sad to hear it not sung well. It didn't sound like she practiced much or possibly she had been drinking or was so nervous lost her notes. Some people really don't do well acapella 🤷 But hey... It got a lot of new views on her videos! 😂

The National Anthem is deceptively hard. It exposes a lot of singers. The range of the song is an octave + 5 notes, (it's 2 full octaves if you want to do the extra high note on "land of the freeeee"). Listening to these songs played here, the tessitura is an octave or less and the range maxes out at an octave + 3 notes. Additionally her "belt" tone is not connected to her breath support--it's done with straining or pinching the vocal folds. If any part of your vocal tone isn't connected to your breath, or you have poor breath management (her breathy tone is healthier than her belt, but the breathiness means that there is a lot of unused/wasted breath in her tone)......it will HUMBLE you. The National Anthem is hard, folks. I hope she gets with a vocal coach to hone healthier vocal production.

Are you a musician at all? Your "legit 4 notes" is so far off its not even funny. Never heard of her till today either. But my guess is she needs to hear music to lock her voice in. Pretty common issue.

Yeah this generic talk singing thing got real popular with swift and the imitations aren't even as good at it

A little more than 4 notes but her range is trash😂😂😂

@@jeremysmyczek "got real popular" does not imply originality or pioneering. Just making it fashionable again. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk, work on those inaccurate inferences next time

I had never heard of this woman before seeing people trash talking her national anthem online and seeing this video, it's apparent that she just has a very limited vocal range and writes around it. Her lyrics are great and that's likely what got her as far as she is in the music industry (along with being conventionally attractive, of course). Her style is mostly speak-singing because of that lack of range, and during choruses and such when she does have higher notes, the flatness comes out. The star spangled banner is notorious for being hard to sing because it has a 12 note range and not everybody was born with that and needs training to achieve that. It's apparent in this video that she hasn't had that training but that's okay because that's not her priority. Her priority seems to be storytelling, which is also valuable in this industry. She would probably be more successful as only a songwriter and not a singer but if she wants to sing, let her sing! As long as she continues to only sing songs that are within her range, there shouldn't be a repeat of that baseball game.

Exactly. I came here after hearing her sing the Anthem, because I wanted to hear her sing her own songs and get a sense of her as a songwriter. She's a storyteller songwriter, more than a vocalist. I really like these three songs lyrically.

Beautiful lyricist! ❤ I had to run the first song back halfway through just to appreciate the words, off to listen to her Spotify with a glass of wine! 🍷

She has a unique and beautiful voice, but within a specific range. National Anthem was unfortunately out of her range. I feel bad because she is actually an incredible artist
