I’m a hairdresser, I couldn’t even count how many times I’ve pulled hair out of my foot, fingers, arms, chest area, face, even my gums a couple of times, and they hurt, like fiberglass. Hair splinters are horrible and painful. Poor lady.

So oddly enough, my wife had an ingrown hair in her foot in about the same spot. She could barely even walk, one night she asked me to look at it, and with tweezers and a pair of toenail clippers, we got it out. Wild how a small hair like that could be almost debilitating, but the body works in weird ways.

The frustrating thing about ingrown hairs (and I guess hair splinters; did not know that was a thing) is that they're usually too tough for the body to break down completely, but not tough enough to come out in one piece if you can grab the end with tweezers. Being embedded under the skin makes the hair soft and brittle.
@Call-me-Al

Hair splinters in my experience is easy go pull out if it's the first day or two you have it. Then again I have never ever known hair splinters were a real thing until my current partner. My hair is too fine and weak to penetrate skin even in short segments, and my three exes had too fine hair for that too. Ingrown hair on the other hand is an annoying constant of life.

And now I don’t feel like a freak any more! My husband helped me with the extractions of a couple of those years ago, and because he had never heard of that, said I was weird and had hair growing on my soles. So happy to know what actually happened!

I am glad to know this happens at least, it explains a lot. I have a lot of cats and once or twice I had weird foot pains, the first time it happened I accidentally plucked it fast and hard thinking it was just hair that got on the bottom of my foot- had no idea it was attached! So painful! second time I knew a little better. Pretty sure they were whiskers or something since we don’t have long-haired cats and they were slightly hard. Also I’m allergic😅

My mother told me about how she pulled a hair out of her foot one day. Some how she had a piece of hair over 6 inches long coil into her foot. When she pulled the hair it was only sticking out less than 1/4 of an inch. Crazy the things that can work their way into our feet.

I had a dog years ago and her hair would get embedded in the bottom of my foot! The crazy thing was that her fur was really soft and not at all wiry! The first time it happened I did not have a clue what was going on! The hair was so fine that I could not see it and it did not hurt if I pushed on my foot where it was, but if I slid my finger over it gently it really hurt! It was as if it was a sliver of metal or fiberglass. It took forever to get it out because I had to find it first then get ahold of it! I had several more over the years but once I figured out what it was it was much easier to get them out! I am glad this woman came to you for help before it became infected or made an absess!!
