1988 made for TV adaptation of the play "Inherit the Wind." Starring Jason Robards and Kirk Douglas. This is a transfer of a second-generation tape copy of a tv broadcast, so the quality is as good as it will be.

I am glad there are people who enjoy this movie/book for its beauty and true meaning. This was a very powerful case and the acting of Jason Robards was impeccable!

Cinematic excellence in its purest form. Two legendary acting titans going toe-to-toe supported by an exemplary cast of superb character actors who collectively gave life to an impeccable script. The goal of a movie is to draw the viewer into the script to the point whereby all 🍿,bathroom, non-essential breaks are delayed because the viewer does not want to miss a single second of the action.Thespian brilliance showcased at its highest level. 👏 👏 👏!

Rest in Peace Kirk, Jason, Darren, and Jean. Thank you for your fine work. There is so much I could say about the trial, the times, the people, and make comparisons to our country in 2024. I'm sure I would make points with some readers and be scoffed at by others. Try to be honest with yourself and let your mind accept the truth of both sides of the argument. God Bless the believers and the peacemakers.

Thanks for this. The last time I saw it was on VHS (also a tape copy of a tv broadcast). I think it's kind of cool to see the old tv ads and so on as well anyway.

The important thing to see that has not changed is the cynical nature of the press. They always look for the dirt that they can shovel. A great play done with great skill by two actors who were also long past their prime.

I did notice, Kirk Douglass and Jean Simmons reunited for this movie. Thirty five years before they were couple in Spartacus, that was the last time Simmons was cast in a young-woman role.

As a play, "Inherit the Wind" is a great vehicle for two terrific actors, but no one can match Frederick March and Spencer tracy in the 1960 film adaptation.

This was a pretty good version... enjoyed watching it... not quite up to the original version with Spencer Tracey.... would certainly worthy enough. Kirk Douglass performed well enough... but Jason Robards portrayal would give Spencer Tracey performance a run for the money. Matthew Brady's major mistake was his interpretation of the days in chapter one of the book of Genesis... there are literal 24 days... NOT longer periods of time... his weak answer, and folding like a deck of cards undermined the authority of God's word.

And for anyone who's wondering, Adam and Eve had other children besides Cain and Abel. So basically Cain married one of his sisters. Back then it wasn't dangerous or wrong, because there weren't so many genetic diseases. (Genesis 5:4)

Kirk Douglass and Jean Simmons reunited for this movie. They were also a couple in Spartacus twenty five years before; that was the last time the age 31 Simmons was cast in a young-woman role. She kinda aged fast. That happened to the in-their-twenties extreme beauties of the Vivian Leigh style, like: Heidi Lamar, Elizabeth Taylor, Jeanne Crain, Susan Hayward. Crossing the 30 milestone they were still beautiful but in a MILFy fashion.

The characters of Matthew Harrison Brady, Henry Drummond, Bertram Cates and E. K. Hornbeck correspond to the historical figures of William Jennings Bryan, Clarence Darrow, Scopes, and H. L. Mencken, respectively. William Jennings Bryan (March 19, 1860 - July 26, 1925) was an American lawyer, orator, and politician. Beginning in 1896, he emerged as a dominant force in the Democratic Party, running three times as the party's nominee for President of the United States in the 1896, 1900, and 1908 elections.

Honestly the final third of the movie was the only portion worth watching. The 1960 interpretation had much more impact per interaction. This TV adaptations just appears to have compiled the highlights of that film and erased some pivotal moments that lifted Brady to only make his failure toward the end much more impactful.

Megan Follows, Kyle Secor. The “golden dancer” part of the movie is a metaphor. The metaphor represents religion. Joshua is the metaphor of Apollo. 4004 BC. Fall 9:00 AM. He didn’t need to resign. He was temporary colonel anyways.

They showed the 1960 film in many real life high schools in the USA. Everybody knew movies from the early 1960s were generally real fake and Hollywood like so nobody watching thought the film was entirely true to life it was really just to talk about evolution and the Bible. This film version here despite a couple of anachronisms to the 80s may seem slightly more true to life but it too is fake and not history either.

Please note, I do not compare this "monkey trial" to the IRL "Scopes Trial". But rather only comparing the two "Inherit the Wind" movies against each other. I have already 1960 version before watched this version of "Inherit the Wind". In all honesty this is a mess of inconsitent speed and lack of expression. Maybe my judgement is clouded by the insipring and amazing acting of Spencer and Fredricd or even the amazing of director Stanley which manages to fit so many diffrent elements and story telling into one movie. But this movie is lacking and inconsitent. What about the heat? What about the radio (there were no cameras, only radio), what about the townsfolks upproar and feelings? What about the Stebbens Farmer and the bankers sacrifice (The farmers fram and bankers as insurance for Henrys bail) for Henry in the epic time of doubt?! The actors were good but the script they were acting by is horrible. The Judge had such a respecatble character but in this movie its more of a stubborn emotional old man. The lack of emotions has reduced the character of the preist, mayor or even the accused Cates, to now stale and limited dolls. What happnened to all that lost story :(

I don’t think we came from evolution I think we are special and not from monkeys. But I don’t know why , just a feeling that there are animals and there are humans and they have always been different. I hope there is a creator and an afterlife but no one knows and I think no one will ever know the origin of life.
