One of the best all-time movies ever made. Robards, Douglas and Tracy do outstanding works in this wonderful movie. Still relevant today, considering the rabid Fundamentalist, Religious Nationalists trying to make everyone to be like them. It should air on the eve of any election.

I don't know. The Spencer Tracy, Fredric March, Gene Kelly, Harry Morgan, and Dick York classic cannot be topped. Why do we need to have remakes every 20 years?

Three cinematic versions of this classic, and no one has learned anything. Spencer Tracy's version still my favorite.

Two men are talking about an apple tree. One says “God made this tree.” The other says “This tree grew out of the ground from an apple seed.” Which one is right? The Bible is full of parables. Did God make man from dust and breathe air into him? Or did microscopic bits in the ocean evolve into air-breathing animals and eventually into man? I don’t believe that scientific evidence of evolution precludes some force or intelligence in the universe that we haven’t yet proven or disproven.

The characters of Matthew Harrison Brady, Henry Drummond, Bertram Cates and E. K. Hornbeck correspond to the historical figures of William Jennings Bryan, Clarence Darrow, Scopes, and H. L. Mencken, respectively. William Jennings Bryan (March 19, 1860 - July 26, 1925) was an American lawyer, orator, and politician. Beginning in 1896, he emerged as a dominant force in the Democratic Party, running three times as the party's nominee for President of the United States in the 1896, 1900, and 1908 elections.

I loved both versions. Tracy and March can’t be beat tho. The judge in this version couldn’t act. Humans haven’t evolved they’re still being brainwashed by religion and political parties.

Rest in Peace Kirk, Jason, Darren, and Jean. Thank you for your fine work. There is so much I could say about the trial, the times, the people, and make comparisons to our country in 2024. I'm sure I would make points with some readers and be scoffed at by others. Try to be honest with yourself and let your mind accept the truth of both sides of the argument. God Bless the believers and the peacemakers.

My Marine son was 15 on 9/11 - Ground Zero is right across the Hudson from our town so we watched the tragedy unfold first hand. Years later, after his 1st deployment, he told me that was the day he decided to become a US Marine. We watched this film together several times. He graduated Parris Island in 2006 (proudest day of our lives!), did 2 deployments - Iraq and Afghanistan and among other decorations earned his "Good Cookie" and a Meritorious Mast. Semper Fi to all Marines and their Moms!

Megan Follows, Kyle Secor. The “golden dancer” part of the movie is a metaphor. The metaphor represents religion. Joshua is the metaphor of Apollo. 4004 BC. Fall 9:00 AM. He didn’t need to resign. He was temporary colonel anyways.

Please note, I do not compare this "monkey trial" to the IRL "Scopes Trial". But rather only comparing the two "Inherit the Wind" movies against each other. I have already 1960 version before watched this version of "Inherit the Wind". In all honesty this is a mess of inconsitent speed and lack of expression. Maybe my judgement is clouded by the insipring and amazing acting of Spencer and Fredricd or even the amazing of director Stanley which manages to fit so many diffrent elements and story telling into one movie. But this movie is lacking and inconsitent. What about the heat? What about the radio (there were no cameras, only radio), what about the townsfolks upproar and feelings? What about the Stebbens Farmer and the bankers sacrifice (The farmers fram and bankers as insurance for Henrys bail) for Henry in the epic time of doubt?! The actors were good but the script they were acting by is horrible. The Judge had such a respecatble character but in this movie its more of a stubborn emotional old man. The lack of emotions has reduced the character of the preist, mayor or even the accused Cates, to now stale and limited dolls. What happnened to all that lost story :(

This is the best example of 80s style high intensity, low impact aerobics I can find on KZbin. Nothing against Jane Fonda, but her original workout video was too advanced flexibility-wise for me to really appreciate the movements. They showed the 1960 film in many real life high schools in the USA. Everybody knew movies from the early 1960s were generally real fake and Hollywood like so nobody watching thought the film was entirely true to life it was really just to talk about evolution and the Bible. This film version here despite a couple of anachronisms to the 80s may seem slightly more true to life but it too is fake and not history either.
