The best mod you can do to your ND3 is a precision alignment. Have it done at a garage that will align it to you specifications and not just follow the OEM spec with the big variations. Flyin miata has a good guide on what it should be (basically, as much camber and caster you can get with the OEM adjustments). You will see a BIG difference.
@bigfoote2013Ай бұрын
Just did my first track day with the Miata Club out of the box. I was faster than the Civic Type R, multiple Mustangs and Corvettes, and GR86s. It is all up to driver, familiarity with the track, etc. Also, when using the “nannies” keep an eye on your back brake pads and rotors, as every time they catch they’ll be using significantly more rear brake. Lesson learned the hard way for me!
@QueTheChaoticАй бұрын
@@bigfoote2013 did the roll bother you at all? I wish I could go to the track regularly
@bigfoote2013Ай бұрын
@QueTheChaotic it was hard, but the main thing my instructor helped me find in our first sessions was when the roll was set and the weight transfer complete so I could get back on the gas. The track I was on is very different too, with lots of elevation change and some banking, so it definitely feels different, but as the days went on and I turned it to track mode, the roll was super informative to what the car was doing. All that being said, I’m considering coilovers to reduce it and help me drop times, but going to do another track day or two before making significant changes that will decrease my every day daily ride.

@ excellent. Thanks for sharing. The stock suspension has value. But if you want to be faster, coils is the way to go

Hear me out, I KNOW there a philosphy on these cars that they are fine out of the box for a street car. In many ways this is correct, HOWEVER. The car is an album of two parts. The second part of the album is the suspension upgrade. A quality set of coilovers elevates this car up a tier for any kind of performance driving. I've been commuting on a set for 20,000 miles and it's no more punshing than driving around an M car. It's always been my opinion that the Sport and Grand Touring spec should have gotten the Bilsteins at a minimum, and the BBR Club spec should have had a set of performance coils. Would have been the closest thing to a new Mazdaspeed Miata without a power upgrade.
@stirado262 ай бұрын
Id say the 124 Spider would be the closest to a Mazdaspeed Miata seeing as it has a turbo engine already lol.
@QueTheChaotic2 ай бұрын
What kind of coils do you have? Did you upgrade the sways too?
@stirado262 ай бұрын
@QueTheChaotic I've done both, the current Xidas from Supermiata that I'm on have been handling amazing on track, I've got a couple videos on my channel if you want to see how it handles on track. Personally, I'd go with: MeisterR, Xidas, or Sakebomb Ohlins depending on your budget 👍

dont get the ND misconcepted with not being a track car, its a driver development car that is mainly set up to a soft setting to make it easy for weight transfer. a gr86 might be more competitive out of the box, but there is definitely lots of potential within the ND chassis as you progress as a driver.

Definitely set up for the street and since everyone drives on the street for 99% of the time. It's a perfect set up for the street. Anything else will be a compromise, you don't want to compromise on with a short wheel base as a Miata. It will rise like total shit as a daily.
