This line: "I can't tap into that power, that's jail speed." That's such a tight summary of that aspect of the Miata and why driving one is so good. You can actually drive them without being a public danger.

I agree Miata you can thrash it daily for 20-30 years it’ll never let you down or get old. Think you need some induction noise from intake, seat lowering bracket, brembos like your buddy, sticky tires, and some high end suspension like ohlins/xidas but it’s already so good as is

I’m a serial car swapper (but probably can’t measure up to you two). Have owned 27 cars in 41 years of licensed driving. All but the first one was/is a manual. Thought Q was gonna say the Miata was gone but glad the content spoke to the opposite reality. Completely relate with the need for something thats fun and a true enthusiast’s car that can be appreciated on the road (thus, shorter gearing is a big deal as you said). I’m still worried that my usual ways will rear their ugly heads (only 14 months into ND2 club 6mt ownership), but this is a great little fun car with serious design and engineering thought behind it! Enjoy!

You and I bought our MX-5 in roughly the same timeframe and I've been enjoying watching your videos because they so directly mirror my experiences. The Miata isn't about numbers or "beating the guy in the lane next to you" but it's about the dance one takes with their car as their partner. It completely skewed my perception of sports cars and I really do not salivate over the high horsepower and/or high weight cars like I used to. I just know a million horsepower or every new tech gadget won't beat the experience the Miata provides. I don't understand the throwaway culture of getting a new car every few years. In my opinion that's the time for modifications and really honing the aspects of the car.

I bought my 2024 ND Grand Touring soft top a couple of months ago and I agree with everything you say about these cars. In the past, I had a Mazdaspeed NB and a PRHT NC. I had not owned one for about 10 years now, and I am really happy with how much they have improved what was already a great car. The new style wheels are the only thing I am not a fan of. Even though there are tons of aftermarket wheels available, I really like the pre-2024 OEM wheels. I found a set on marketplace that the guy took off his 2023 with about 2000 miles on them so they have almost new tires and the tpms sensors intact. It was kind of a long 850 mile day driving from Ohio to North Carolina to pick them up, but I think they look great on my aero gray ND. My daily driver is an old V8 4Runner so unlike you, I have parked the ND until there is no more salt on the roads. Seeing you drive yours in this video makes me want to get in mine right now and drive it even though there is lots of snow on the ground and the roads are trashed here in Central Ohio. I have enjoyed your ND videos and they have me thinking seriously about a Goodwin exhaust and a GD Corsa-D steering wheel. I appreciate your videos and I am glad you are not getting rid of your ND because I am looking forward to see what you do next with it.

Currently have an ND2 and am also considering trading to something else. The issue I'm running into is that the current state of the car market is kind of shitty if I'm being honest. There's no EVO, no STi, the GR86 will be largely the same, VW is hellbent on destroying any kind of driver connection with their GTI/R, the GR Corolla seems to be plagued with a fragile clutch that lifetime manual drivers have run into issues with, I struggle to resonate with any Hyundai product, and the CTR/Type-S are just too far out of my price range as they have basically zero depreciation. I guess what I'm chasing is a modern car that has the analog feel of a late 90s or early 2000's car. I'm also kind of angry that we're STILL dealing with transmission issues, clutch issues, bad user interfaces, engine oiling and failures, for what is going to be the last hurrah for enthusiast internal combustion engines. We have over 100 years of advancement to build upon, why the FUCK isn't everything on the market as reliable and bulletproof as an old Toyota Corolla? Subaru releasing their new fake STi with the CVT is a testament to what I'm talking about. It's like all the passionate engineers have been fired or moved elsewhere in these companies, and they've put the marketing and bean counter in charge. Every great car, or line of cars, had a great visionary individual at the helm to guide the ship. Look at Andy and what's he's doing with the Porsche GT cars. Look at all the great names in history that were behind all the cars that we grew up loving and putting on our walls. Without those great leaders, we're left with whatever the corpo money-hungry automatons can crank out. I just need to keep this damned car and stop chasing novelty instead of cherishing nuance.
