Initial setup - Yamaha MONTAGE and MODX with Logic Pro X 2023

This first video looks at getting your synth and computer ready to work together, and testing connectivity.
Please note that you must have the following settings on your MONTAGE/MODX to follow these videos:
1. Utility / Settings / Quick Setup / Standalone
2. Utility / Settings / MIDI / MIDI IN/OUT = USB
3. Utility / Settings / MIDI / Local Control = ON
4. Utility / Settings / Advanced / MIDI I/O MODE = Multi
You will also need to have your MONTAGE/MODX connected to your Mac with a USB cable to the [USB TO HOST] port on the back of the synthesizer, and have the Yamaha / Steinberg USB Driver installed on your Mac.

same as below. No luck with seeing a digital L&R output and not able to get the monitoring to pass the modx sounds at all! Super bummed and wondering what the hell is going on. The Sunday afternoon with my new setup was wrecked just like the any painful days of trying to be "creative" with cubase Pro , Audient, and my Intel 5 /16Gb Ram but still inadequate PC. Thought this M3Pro chip was going to be magic for the Yamaha. Any tips additional advise. maybe run cable from my A/D out bypassing the Audient to the beamed speaker but seems like that will effect the recording ability and the mix quality of the Audient mixer.

what does he mean by this? for my mox8 the device to host can only connected with a midi cable

MIDI cables should only ever be used synth-to-synth. If you are connecting to your computer, USB is a vastly superior connection as it can transmit multiple MIDI ports and audio at the same time

Hi Kier. I recently wiped and updated my imac i9 to Ventura 13.5.2 I installed the latest driver firmware for the montage and montage connect. I am able to follow your video perfectly until we try to select the digital L & R output. I currently only have options stereo, output 3-4, output 5-6, Surround, and then mono 1 through 6. Any recommendations on where to change settings to access?

It sounds like everything has worked okay. Logic is a little inconsistent in its application of labels, but output 3-4 should correspond to the digital output, and you’ll be able to verify its signal using the mixing panel on the synth. Let me know how you get on.

Can we do the same in Yamaha psr sx900 ? Can you please check whether the software is available in Yamaha website downloads?

No. SX700 and 900 has no audio interface but the 600 has. Very bad from Yamaha that's why I my sold sx700.

Thanks for the vid. My problem is one that I don't think happened before I got my M2 mac, on Ventura with 10.7 Logic. This may be a Steinberg thing but every single time I turn it on I have to go into the settings page on Montage and reselect the MIDI I/O mode from Multi to Single and reselect USB instead of MIDI. Really hate dong this every time. Should Montage remember these basic set ups? Any ideas?
