Injectors? Diesel Pump? Why wont it run?

My Mazda Bongo Diesel won't run properly after standing for so long! Is it the injectors? Is it the Diesel Pump? Is it clogged from the old waste Veg Oil or Black Diesel?
In this video I troubleshoot the issue, cleaning the fuel system and stripping the injectors, fuel lines, and even the diesel pump!

In the normal system you have the fuel filter before the pump, then a gauze type filter in the pump where the fuel inlet goes in.

I have a large syringe, you can get them on amazon for about £10, used for draining sumps, brakes etc. I connect it to the pipe before citroen goes into the diesel pump and pull the diesel through.

I’ve replaced those big o-rings on the bottom of the pump while it’s still bolted to the engine, I think I could now qualify as a contortionist for Cirque du Soleil 😂 But, my 2.5 diesel AWD bongo feels very slow. Revs fine, turbo spools up, wastegate isn’t jammed, fuel is good, intake isn’t blocked, but pedal to the metal results in 75mph maximum speed on a slightly downhill motorway… Any expert thoughts?

I heard that the copper washers on the diesel injectors are one use only, Once you undo them they have to be replaced, In the video I watched you could hear a whistling from the engine, Once the copper seal was replaced it went away, I believe it was a Vauxhall Vivaro van, No trouble with yours ?

I dont recall there being any copper washers. Seems to run fine now.

I can change the diesel pump in about 30 mins now, the tough bit is getting it off the pulley, the first time I did it it took me ages to separate them. Do your best to line up shaft of the new pump to the old pump to reduce the need to do your pump timing.

Hi there, our 1999 t reg diesel 2.5 TD auto, has started cutting out at junctions! Sometimes it's not great to start but when it does it's fine on dual carriageway etc, just when we approach junctions it wants 2 stall on us!! Will I try banjo and fuel filter 1st, cheers

Hey, I would start with a basic service, diesel filter, air filter and clean the banjo filter. If that doesn't resolve it I'd be thinking of looking at the idle side of things, the throttle position sensor and vacuum solenoids. Is it better with the aircon off?

It's the solenoids that go, with the drivers seat up turn the ignition on, you should see the throttle arm on the pump move. Same when you put the aircon on.

Just tried that there, and nothing happens on the pump regarding arms moving etc, it starts up fine but when u get to junctions etc it's like it's trying 2 cut out, and sometimes does

Sounds like you need to change the solenoids, you can get pattern parts off ebay fairly cheap. There are two of them, try swapping the electric connections over to see if you need one or two. You can also try activating them directly with 12v. I do this in a later video.

Check you have 12v to your glow plug buzz bar, if not then it's relay, fusible link or the wire to the bar. If you do have 12v then I'd change the glow plugs. I'm assuming it's diesel.

@@StevesMachines The buzz bar looks like its covered in a rubber insulation. Am I correct that I should be getting a reading of 12v if I measure the voltage using the nut that connects the cable to the buzz bar?

@@peterjellis4846 Yes, 12v at the nut, but you'll only have 12v whilst the relay is active.

@@StevesMachines Hi Steve, thanks for your help, was the relay. Have another on the way. I'm getting quite a lot of white smoke though, I do have a small leak on the fuel pump so could be air getting in.
