Humboldt county is a very weird and mysterious place, it’s beautiful but in the deep back country you get some very interesting and dangerous characters. I hike around there somewhat often traveling from a neighboring county. They have one of the highest missing persons in the nation in the small emerald triangle

So with no thorough investigation complete, law enforcement announces that there is no ongoing threat to the public. So the victim was hiking the trail at night (strange place to be at night), then was brutally attacked by someone who they described as another hiker, and then left for dead. Apparently the attacker whose identity is unknown is still at large, and no description was given. Forgive me but if I am on that trail now or plan to be in the immediate future, please tell me why shouldn’t I be concerned. Shout out to the group who rendered aid, but seriously, there must be more to this story…..

Not true. Depending on your schedule for the day, there are reasons to be hiking into the night. I’ve had to hike a few hours into the evening on a few occasions, including to reach camp when I got a late start. I’ve also gone on night-specific hikes before. If you have a good light, map and the trail is within your technical abilities you’ll most likely be fine.
