Yesterday was an excellent day for us at Jabulani.
Elephant bull Fishan, finally joined the rest of the herd to forage out in the reserve for the first time since he fractured his leg in September 2018.
The carers ensured they did not walk too great of a distance, keeping the total length walked to 5Kms.
Over the past four months of treatment and rehabilitation, Fishan has not been able to move far from the elephant stables, due to his severe injury, so the herd would head out for the day and return to his side at dusk.
He has become a lot more comfortable with walking on the leg recently, and yesterday Fishan decided he wanted to join the herd.
In the video, you will see the care and concern shown by some of the elephants as they approach the waterhole.
Tokwe, the matriarch (with the very slim yet lengthy tusks) as well as Limpopo, seem to ensure the path is clear for him to approach the water. An act of pure respect, care, and love.
Today we allowed him to rest again at the stables, as we do not want him to overexert himself too quickly.
We are beyond thrilled to see his incredible progress in a relatively short space of time, considering his size.
Thank you for everyone's amazing love and support for Fishan's recovery thus far.
We will share a further video soon, of his day out in the bush yesterday
