Injured Sea Lion Pup Jumps Onto Boat in California

This is the heartbreaking moment an injured sea lion nicknamed Amber swims straight up to boat off the Californian coast in seek of urgent help.
The sea lion, which had apparently been attacked by something in the water and was starving, was filmed swimming up to and jumping onto a boat near Laguna Beach in Orange County.
“Amber swam directly for our boat and came aboard without hesitation.
“If she bites, there is a chance of bacteria (or) disease but she was as friendly as a stray dog. She was desperate,” says filmer Hugo Zusho.
Zusho and his friends on the boat took Amber straight to the Pacific Marine Mammal Centre in Laguna Beach to get her the help she needed.
The footage has recently emerged online.

I've seen them pump gobs of brightly colored bits of plastic out of the stomachs of sea animals. And it doesn't pass through. It's said that even micro-organisms, plankton, krill, all those animals that are food for fish who are in turn food for other fish. It adds up.

That poor pup was starving because there are less fish for it to eat. Plus radiation accumulates up the food chain. I live by the Pacific most of the time and have not eaten seafood since March 2011. Look up salmon stock level in the Columbia river and prepare for shock.

Normally, nursing moms stay close to the Channel Island nurseries and only go on short foraging trips. Amber stole my heart!! ❤ To come asking for help like that - this precious cutie obviously was in dire need.... 😢 The swimming B-line she made for the boaters was a conscious decision, only further proving their intelligence levels in the ability to make such decisions, have an immediate plan and to put it into action - that's some higher level cognitive processing right there!! Animals will not harm you unless they are invited. This little one came to approach you because or perhaps he is hungry or injured. Glad you came to his rescued. Thank you.

Animals can and will harm you if you are in their territory, if they are protecting their young, if they are afraid, if they are hungry, or just trying to get away from you! Wild animals should be left alone OR call authorities who know how to handle them, they can tranquilize them or trap them in a container so as not to injure them, and then they will see to it they get proper care until they can be released back into the wild.

In this case, they should radio ahead to port authorities, who can then call the proper animal service who will handle it; they will check out the animal, determine its age so they can bottle-feed it it it necessary, tend to its health and in time, release it back into the ocean where it belongs.
