Hi, Martin, and many thanks for the comment - and taking the time to watch! I have been astonished by the positive reaction to these videos, but I have to admit I wish there had been something similar when I was buying inks from people like the excellent Akkermann or Iroshizuku. It's just so hard to see how inks compare usually, isn't it? Hope you enjoy the next ones too - more oranges, then browns before greens and the greys and blacks!

More lovely inks. Beautiful shading on Sunshine Yellow and Sunset. Autumn Oak has all the colours of autumn leaves. You really need a bigger slice of lemon drizzle cake!

My vote from this selection goes to Diamine Sunset, I think when all is said and done I'm just a sucker for a bit of red. I like the Ancient Copper too. How inspired of your daughter to provide Lemon Drizzle Cake for your yellow ink review. May I suggest chocolate cake or coffee and walnut when you move on to the browns?
@writerlywitterings
@writerlywitterings 5 жыл бұрын
Pamela, she will be reading this, and with luck a coffee and walnut may be demonstrated ... but I could be just a little over-optimistic! Thanks so much for the comment. I like the Sunset, but I have to admit that it doesn't appeal to me personally as much as, say, Vermillion, which has a slightly enhanced red tone compared with the orange of Sunset. But these things are all entirely subjective, of course. I think Autumn Oak is preferable for my taste. It's quite understated, but I just love the shading. So many colours ...

I'm a huge fan of Autumn Oak. An ink with such a wonderful name just has to be good! It looks especially nice on my creamy white writing paper. I'd like to try Ancient Copper and Amber, too.
@writerlywitterings

Thanks for the comment, Anja! If you like more subtle colours I'd go with Amber first. Amber, like Autumn Oak, is pretty mild and restrained on the page, whereas Ancient Copper is really quite startling on the page! Very deep colour that stands out very clearly. But a lovely colour - as with all these, I do think they show their tones and shading fabulously well when used with a good broad or stub nib!

Sadly, I think the lemon drizzle won't make it till tomorrow! However the Ancient Copper will last quite a while, I think. It's a gorgeous colour, deep and nicely shaded. What with Oxblood, Red Dragon, Syrah and now Autumn Oak and Ancient Copper, I'm really spoiled for choice!

Ancient Copper is one of my favourites. I have it in my Conway Stewart Belliver Mocha, which it suits wonderfully. Interesting that you noted what I think about its writing properties - it is almost like writing with oil. It's lush :0)

Just stumbled upon your channel and really enjoying the ink reviews. Question on Autumn Oak: How are you liking it after some use? I fell in love with it but after using it realized it didn't hold up so well on longer writing sessions (and by that I mean more than one short paragraph), running dry and much paler than the initial couple of sentences. This even happened using a very wet broad nib! Thoughts? Thanks for your videos!
@writerlywitterings

Many thanks, Jaime. I haven't had the problems you describe while using Autumn Oak in my Visconti (but that pen does gush). I tend to find it works well in my TWSBIs with their 1.1 mm nibs too. I would imagine it might be a peculiarity of your pen, rather than the ink? What sort of pen are you using?

@@writerlywitterings Thanks for the reply! The strange thing is I've tried it on a variety of pens and nib grades (Sailor, Pilot, Franklin-Christoph, Platinum, Parker), all of which I have had tuned to have heavy ink flow. Perhaps bad luck with a faulty ink batch?

Hi Michael, Ancient Copper is a great colour, I use it quite often when I'm not writing with Syrah, Oxford Blue or Macassar. I tried the Tyrian Purple but I didn't like it as much as I thought I would, so I gave it away to a co-worker. Now, if I could just find a Diamine purple that I could really enjoy. Cheers, Steve
@writerlywitterings
@writerlywitterings 5 жыл бұрын
My three recommendations would be: Diamine/Cult Pens Deep Dark Purple if you want a real purple. Very intense dark colour, but with occasional lighter shades that give it quite a lot of character? Alternatively, I would go with either Diamine's Grape, which is more purple and slightly redder than Macassar, or Merlot, which is as dark, but has a slightly more pastel quality to it (in my pen, on Tomoe River). Looking at my pages again, I can only say, it's a terribly hard choice. If you want pure purple, Imperial and Majestic are good colours ... but not the sort I'd use. I'm with you on Tyrian, too. It doesn't quite work for me, I think. Personal choice, I think, would be Grape. In case you haven't seen it, I compare them all here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pWHcgY1noc1mfc0 Hope that helps!

@@writerlywitterings Since you have impeccable taste in firearms, dogs, books and fountain pens I have decided to take your advice and promptly ordered an 80ml bottle of Diamine Grape. I know it doesn't sound quite as sexy as Tyrian Purple but then again neither does Sig (as in .45 auto) lol. Cheers, Steve

It is a bright colour, good for highlighting, I think, but personally I'd go with Pumpkin, which has a slightly darker appearance that makes it easier on the eye if you're using it to write.
