Thanks for your review! I actually like the design of the Go better than the swipe and the fact that the clip lacks proper functionality annoys me. Also I don't like the look of the clip. I would much prefer the swipe to be without the clip, and just have something else to stop it rolling, like a little bump. It would then look more similar to the Go. I feel that would be cool for the styling of the brand to have a little more of a common design thread between the two pens. Also as you said, better colours, and also the swipe should have a clear one too. :)

Another Pearl Series Dominant Industry I really love is Sunset, it is a pale violet with a nice shimmery effect on the page. Well behaved too in the 2 pens I tried it. Flow is on the dry side of average but still ok.

Michael have You found a thin Mechanical Pencil that will fit the William Hannah Portable Notebook? Thanks!
@writerlywitterings2 күн бұрын
I assume you mean the little pocket notebook? The Kuru Toga is sitting in that as I write. The notebook loop is deceptive, because it's elastic. It's a little tricky to get it to accept the pencil at first, because the loop holds the silicon/rubber ring at the meeting of the nib section and barrel, but it does fit perfectly, and remains there safely. The Kuru Toga is 14.5mm, while the notebook cover is 15mm, so it's fully enclosed. Any pencil of 14.5mm or less will be fine. Metal pencils will work well, since they can slide in and out of the loop with ease. Hope that helps.
@paull34662 күн бұрын
This new Kuru Toga looks very nice and very affordable! I may buy one in the near future. I recently acquired a Rotring 800 (in 0.7mm) after receiving an award and a nice £30 gift voucher from work. The Rot 800 is superb, with the pencil sleeve retracting into the body with a little twist, fixing the issues I had with my other premium mechanical pencils (a Rotring 600 and a Graphgear 1000) which had a tendency to jab either into my leg (if kept in my hip pocket) or through my shirt pocket. The rotating lead design of this Kuru Toga seems particularly useful, however. Is it possible to have too many mechanical pencils? (My wife would think so 😆.)

I have two Kuru Togas just like that featured one that I picked up in a Jspanese stationery store in NYC back in 2018 or so. The one you feature may have a slightly different clip but the other features were present back then.
@writerlywitterings2 күн бұрын
Yes, they have been around for some time. The reason I wanted to do this was the slider function on the nib, and the fact that it's so much slimmer and more comfortable to use than the original versions.

I honestly have not used a mechanical pencil in years. However, this pencil is certainly worth considering. I used to write with a pencil regularly, having had done mechanical drawing in the past. My go to was Koh-i-nor but as you mentioned, one side would flatten and you would have to manually rotate the pencil to get a consistent line width. That it does this for you is great advancement. Thank you for your worthwhile review, Michael. As for your elbow, it is great to see and hear that you are out of the sling and it is healing nicely. Some surgeons are butchers. Good question! You can pull the eraser out of its socket, and beneath that there is a hole which forms a magazine. I had five spare leads in there, and wouldn't show it because I'd just tried that and dropped all the leads onto my floor - and it took an age to pick them all up again! But as you write and the old lead reduces, gradually a new lead is fed into the nib. It's really very effective.

I did once have a lady who bought a word processor from me in the 1980s. Our tech king had to go in when she said that the cursor was "whizzing" around the screen as she typed, putting numbers of spaces between letters as she typed. Tony told me later that it was one of the hardest chats he had been forced to have with a lady of a certain age and girth, explaining that a pair of her attributes were resting on the space bar as she typed ...

I own a Traveler. It is functional, I get things done, but I find it limiting. I have been typing on an Alpha Neo for years, until they all broke down. What was the difference? The keyboard. Like you, I enjoy a typewriter type keyboard. The Traveler has a better keyboard than laptops, but not the clackety clack kind.
@writerlywitterings8 күн бұрын
I totally agree, and I have to admit, that is why I still much prefer using my original Freewrite. The keyboard makes the machine work so much better for me. I tried the Traveller, but those keys just made it feel like a laptop keyboard and gave no benefit. The Alpha, I would say, is about half way between the two, and it's certainly much more portable than the original design.

It's really sad, because I think that the pens would have sold well - not mine alone, but the others. Alexander McCall Smith was to be the next author to have a pen designed for him, and it would have been the first of many, I suspect.
