The 2.4 variant of wi-fi will not “slowdown your network” - it runs alongside 5hz spectrum, and is ideal for running outside as it travels further than 5hz band which is easily blocked by walls. I would suggest you install a mesh network in your property with one access point in your bbq area so that if you insist on using 5hz for your thermometer, you will get better signal. 5hz is better suited to products that need a high throughput of data, like video senders or streaming devices, totally unnecessary for a meat thermometer. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. I've had nothing but trouble with WiFi outside this is the first time I've ever got it to work.

5GHz, not Hz. The rest is correct.

There is one other issue though. Your phone will connect on 5GHZ. You will probably have issues pairing the thermometer with the app when theýre on different channels. That was at least my issue and is why I sent back the 2.4 device as I'm not going into my router settings and setting it dedicated on 2.4.

I also done a review on this unit and I totally agree with you on the 2.4GHz issue that most of us have been struggling with, One of your members mentioned about installing a mesh network and yes I agree with that but and there is a big but! My wifi is 5GHz dedicated, Yes I can knock it down to 2.4GHz to allow it to join my network, it gives me enough time to join it up but after joining it returns to 5GHz, the unit still works until I get a dip in signal then it gets booted out, so then I have to go through all the setting up again........ I gave up in the end! With this new unit I stay connected and have no further issues. Good review mate.

think this unit is more stable as it will switch to 2.4Ghz if out of range for 5Ghz. I've had the 2.4Ghz version for a month now (5Ghz wasn't available on amazon at the time) and have had zero connectivity issues, but I've given myself the kiss of death now! 2.4Ghz is more prone to interference so if there are a lot of overlapping networks this could be a problem, just one I don't really experience where I live.

This is the best I can leave and go to the store or wherever and know where my temperature is at on my pitboss pellet smoker

I have the 2.4Ghz variant and can confirm it's a stable connection to my Hub up to around 25m going through a few walls, but I have it probably 10m away usually when cooking (2.4 will connect further distances than 5Ghz but more prone to interference). Setup was also very easy but understand some routers can be funny registering 2.4Ghz devices (BT Smart Hub 2). The Bluetooth probably has a similar range as well which you can use if outside of Wifi range. I've found this great in wifi mode for monitoring via the app when doing a pork shoulder and popping out to the shops, was able to get my daughter to open the kamado vent a little when I got a notification the grills temp had dropped below a threshold and then again when it got close to target. I will say you need to play about in the app and set the alert frequences, as the defaults get annoying if you need to open the grill often or plan to go over a temp, as my phone and the device were constantly going off near the end of a cook. The only negative with this device that is available on other Inkbirds is waterproofing, as I don't think there is any with this one. Think I paid around £60 at the time and very happy, so with the current discount taking it down to around the £50 mark is a bargain.

As many have said this Seams to be router issue more the 5ghz v 2.4ghz. For someone who isn't very techy it's all quite confusing.

I cook a lot of brisket in my smoker (small business I have). Is this probe a good choice? Or other inkbird you recommend over this one? Thank you, great video

How’s it compare to a meater? What’s the length of the Wi-Fi / app?
@BBQLIFE
@BBQLIFE Жыл бұрын
I'm not a fan of the meater because my WiFi is flakey, I have had no issuse with connection with this thermometer. After initial connection the unit can be anywhere on that network and you and your phone can be anywhere even on your data.

once you register the device onto a network via the phone app, you can read/monitor the temps from anywhere you have a mobile data connection from i.e. your phone can be on a different network. you treat it like any other smart device like smart plugs\light bulbs etc.

My router won't connect to 2.4hz. I'm not a wiz like alot of others. As you can see in the comments, there are others who have the same issues as me.
