Congratulations on your new releases, Simon. I applaud Spellbinders for going the “extra mile” of making the lil die cutting / embossing machine beefy enough to be worth the investment, but I’ll cherish my very old Sizzix Embossing Boutique for its greater flexibility. Yes, it’s “rated for embossing” only, but using SHARON LUSKA’s trick of using VINYL SHEETING between thin versions of cutting plates, the 5” THROAT makes it flexible enough to use standard embossing folders AND DIES, and I can put an A2 TOP FOLD card base through it. I T R U L Y wish companies would build on the successes of the past instead of beginning again with each new generation … I think we’d all be living with far less pollution, cleaner, cheaper energy, and maybe even less homelessness if we didn’t take a step back for every 2 forward.

Agreed the little machine I got from altenew was years ago and a hair less than 3” because the plates are 3” wide and I’ve run into small single does that are just a SMIDGE too wide ! Lol anyway congratulations on your branding because I think it’s a great option ! I agree also always make one a cut plate and another the top plate and only replace the bottom cutting plate when it’s worn. I’m sure soon there will be a magic mat for this size and version! I also appreciate your sense of humor and neediness (in a good way) Simon! It’s fun and you make me laugh when you show up with a space helmet or a penguin mask! I didn’t think you could top your Santa with sunglasses but the alien sunglasses & deeley boppers did 😂. Love your humour. I have the original Scout & love it. I’m glad to see the embossing folder & stencils are sold separately now if only the dies are. The Scout I have has a best wishes die, floral e/f & floral dies. Most of us have a ton of florals. I worked as a substitute teacher for a while, then worked at the community college for 12 years, including getting a master's degree and 18 graduate level credits in another subject online, but never got on full time. Did a couple job interviews there, which were disasters. Made it ALMOST through a semester teaching elementary school art, and realized that both my brother and I are probably autistic, so will be going back to the college 8 hours a week, and trying to get a formal diagnosis.

Simon this release is a delightful set of creativity! While I prefer stamping but this set has me interested because of the details. It’s not only cute and fun it’s thoughtful in design from insets down to the score lines for the rocket stabilizers placement! Well done! I love the Scout. Sleek! I have had the Sidekick Mini since it first came out. I get frustrated at how often the opening is a tiny bit too small. I rarely use anymore for that reason. Yours feeding slot is an inch bigger. A huge difference when you need to cut one extra doodad and don’t want to get out the large machine. I forgot…❤ the awkward cutting shots and the fun props. Best looking alien glasses I have ever seen! I laughed out loud and hubby wanted to know what was so funny. He admitted he liked the set as well. Now THATS a win😂

Hi Simon, I have the 6 and I love it. I have a couple of genuine design questions, is there a reason why they dropped the carry handle? I feel like it adds to the luxury feel and look of the platinum and would have still been nice in the compact varient. I am also curious as to why they've kept a full size turning handle, I have always found even on the 6 the handle was too big making the machine more awkward to store. On this it looks disproportionate. Overall I love the colour and neutral logo design just genuinely curious on these aspects.

This one is so small and light I don’t think the carrying handle is necessary/wouldn’t fit in the small top of the machine. I think the crank handle stayed the same for ergonomics. If needed it can be removed with a screw for easy storage/travel.

No, it has slightly grippy pads, but you have to hold it down as mentioned. I like no suction because lots of times the suction stops working well and feels gimmicky.

The 3.5” opening accommodates so many dies, that won’t fit on other mini machines (I have a Sizzix side kick) Spellbinders has put out a “sandwich” reference for many of the name brand 2D and 3D embossing folders - the same sandwich can be used for any of their machines because the universal plate system is the same across machines. So you could use the Scout plates on their bigger machines. Plus the longer length means you cut cut more in one pass.

I guess I don't understand why all the different size die cutting/embossing machines.. I have the 9 inch Bira Craft Adjustable Die Cutting & Embossing Machine and it does it all, plus it has dial settings for pressure.. can anyone explain to me what the purpose is for having more than one machine?
