This is the simplest, to the point, and very structural tutorial on this effect. I tried to follow a similar tutorial from another channel and it has too many extra steps that complicate things and making it un-reusable. This is how tutorial for InkScape should be. Great for newbies like me, who search up tutorial to accomplish one effect, but the tutorial build a structural skill set and experience so that I can know how to apply it to other projects down the line.

@@IronEchoDesign and if I can suggest a next video topic, maybe you can do one for drawing a character. A bit hard to explain but let say I want to draw a lion that will go on velcro patches, or box art. Not a realistic lion, just a draw that makes up of simple lines, and some shapes to portray shading. Closest tutorial I can think of is a cartoon character. I want to know good workflow and efficient tools to use. To me, InkScape is a very good tool, but it encompass a lot of areas in graphic designs (drawing, calligraphy, sculpting, tracing, patterns, photo-shopping) and it can be pretty daunting to use not knowing what settings I should focus on or what options do I have at hand. If there is a cheat sheet, better in video format, that I can just quickly reference to figure out all the options for that particular graphic design area.

That was great Rick . Straight into it no messing, nice one mate. Thanks for showing us the hidden pallet , had know idea about that. 'stroke ordering', in front or behind has been a great help to me for a while but who knew you could edit text once the colouring was don, I always converted text to a path before working on colours. Thanks for that tip. 👍🐺👍
@IronEchoDesign2 жыл бұрын
Thanks again, Nik! I really appreciate the video idea! The color ribbon trick I kind of shoehorned in there because I thougjt it was cool. The stroke order used to mess me up, so I had to put that in too. Also, the curved text method you used is great. This gradient method can be used with the radial gradient over curved text, but it's not as smooth.

Really enjoy your videos, they are always clear concise and straight to the point! I am in the early learning of Inkscape to create Rhinestone templates to cut on cutting machine out of flock to put hotfix rhinestones on Tshirts, could you do a video on how to create them in Inkscape? The only videos I can find to do this in Inkscape are at least 5 years old and not very clear or the version is too different .
@IronEchoDesign2 жыл бұрын
Thank you!! Inkscape does pretty well with making templates. Rhinestones on shirts will be beautiful. Are you using a Cricut? I'm tempted to buy one to do custom stickers, and I made a video on offsets that could apply to the rhinestone templates too. I just don't know how the final physical product comes out without the machine.
@jillarnott35002 жыл бұрын
@@IronEchoDesign Yes I have the Cricut, but the software for it, Design Space is quite limited which is why I am trying to learn it in Inkscape , then you have to import the template into Cricut Design Space to cut it, just need to make sure the settings are correct after import. The videos I have seen say the cricut cuts the templates on the flock just fine. There are other cutters such as Cameo which comes with software that you can make the templates in and send directly to the cutter.
@IronEchoDesign2 жыл бұрын
Okay, that's good info to know. If I can get my hands on a Cricut machine I'll be better equipped to make complete videos from design to creation of the physical product. I hope someone can answer your question in the meantime. If anyone reading this knows, is there a good solution??

@IronEchoDesign2 жыл бұрын
In the version this video was filmed in choose View and look towards the bottom of the dropdown menu, you'll see a Custom choice. Click on Custom and it should look like mine does. In the latest version (1.2) the default looks like this and one whole layer of the top menu is now its own button up on the top right. Hope this helps!

@@IronEchoDesign Thanks for the reply Rick, appreciated highly! So, Gran Turismo 7 has decal application from SVG's, the limit is 15kb, but can you recreate some text for a replica car of mine that I'm creating from a UK Mini Challenge Championship? Another fun text effect! - Rick: how do we save to jpeg? (I've been designing t-shirts and flyers for 15 years using Microsoft Digital Imaging and recently using photoshop elements) but as of last Saturday using Inkscape to build my library of custom clip art. New learning curve but manageable. Need to know if or how we can save to jpeg. and why I can't import and work with my saved png files from photoshop elements for further enhancements. Thanks! -Ken.
@IronEchoDesign2 жыл бұрын
Thanks!! You're right- Inkscape has a bit of a learning curve. One of the things that's not very intuitive is how to save. They let you Export your work, which is the way to Save as a PNG file. In future releases they may expand file types that can be saved or exported. For now, go to File- Export to PNG, and on the side bar menu choose Selection as what you want to export. Then it let's you name the file and say where it's being exported/ saved. 1/2
@IronEchoDesign2 жыл бұрын
2/2. Also Inkscape should be able to import PNGs you made in Photoshop. Go to File- Import and choose the PNG you want to bring in. Is it working?
@KensAeroden2 жыл бұрын
@@IronEchoDesign when attempting to import - I select "All Files" but no png or html files show in the small window to select from. I mention HTML files because for some reason each time I save my Inkscape projects for later editing "as a" Inkscape (.svg) it saves it as HTML and the file icon is the newer Microsoft "Edge" logo scripted E. I am so confused ;-) - Ken.
@KensAeroden2 жыл бұрын
I see 57 file types to select from for importing and one - png and when I import the png it opens in a new Inkscape window in the upper left corner of my screen, and I can't figure out how to move the image over to my current project pallet.
@IronEchoDesign2 жыл бұрын
Let's see if we can fix this. Can you make a copy of the PNG file you made in Photoshop and drag it onto your desktop? Then in Inkscape you can bypass File-Import and just drag the PNG file from the desktop onto the Inkscape canvas. Can you try that and let me know if it helps?
