Elizabeth Keefner here…. I always enjoy your videos. I find your interpretations of the prompts interesting and inspiring. I also enjoyed your descriptions especially how you digitally pieced the drawings together. Very cool!

its always a joy to see what you create for inktober, the idea of putting them in bookform is perfect. Maybe next year you will publish a comic book of these characters?

This is an impressive collection, and I love the cohesiveness with the characters! I set a time limit for Inktober this year and did every one under 30 minutes. It let me get on to other projects and helped me to focus on what was really important in each sketch.

Could not find any inspiration after gargoyle, so I really only got to scurry. That's a new low... love our take on the list!

Hi Mark, thank you for sharing. I love your illustrations. I did Inktober this year, but did an alternative list and used watercolour pencils instead. I found that every inktober I usually treat it like my "Final Exam" I have objectives that i want to achieve, and analyzed if I have grown in my art style and creativity. This year was to work on shading, colour and characters. Although I did great in the colour and character department I can still need a lot of work in the shading part. But I must say that my art style have truly grown, i have learn to embrace my "Cheap Colouring Book Style" that is what I call it. As you may have know that Hurricane Lisa came through the country of Belize and my home was severely damaged. Using this opportunity I did a self-portrait of me during the storm, which i may add lasted 8 hours. I know I need to work on it some more. What I am finding frustrating and maybe you can help with this, is that I draw a subject in graphite, i studied it to ensure that I am capturing my intentions, then after I finish painting, it is then I truly saw what is wrong with it. I feel like I wasted the entire time I spend painting. Then I am angry with myself for not seeing such an obvious mistake sooner. Does this experience ever happened to you? Or is this just a novice thing and I am not advancing as much as I thought? Thank you as always, stay safe and bless.

Oh wow. I love the mixture of traditional and digital painting and drawing that you did this year. What a fun idea to take things we already know and incorporate your characters into - the Playfarm was one of my favorites (both in your Inktober book and as a child 😀). Thanks for sharing! Do you have a video that I may have missed on how you made these into books? Or would you mind giving me a brief explanation? Thank you!

Developing your characters was awesome! Keep it up. They'd be great as a newspaper comic strip. I Iove your style and work.

Learning your thoughts about the words and the background of the pieces is really interesting. My favourite is the "Marcocelli" - I know your name doesn't contain an "o" but I needed some kind of link 🙂 Thank you so much for taking the time to explain your work and the thought process behind it.

I loved see what you came up each post during October. It does sound like it was very taxing. I can see the benefit of using the digital. I am going to save up so I can venture into learning that skill. I love you art but also that there was character development. These characters have dimension. I am hoping you will take it a few steps further and come up with a book about them. Thank you for the video.

I joined the Inktober challenge, after watching your videos. To warm up, I am doing Inktober 52 right now. Hopefully, by the time October rolls in, I will be fighting fit for the daily challenges. I have been compelled to add colour to some of my drawings as well for the same reasons. Since I am not aiming for a coherent story, the sequencing of the B&W and polychrome drawings can also add a rhythm and varieties to the collection. Thanks for the inspirations, and pointers.

That sounds fantastic, Xuhong Mao! The process I've come to enjoy is doing black and white ink drawings and then, if time permits, adding digital color after. I wish I had more time to do traditional color, whether paint, pencils, or markers. But, digital is very satisfying. I wish you the best on the 52 and look forward to seeing you in Inktober! Cheers and thank you for checking this video out! ~ Mark

Thank you for this video. It is fascinating to see how other artists work, and work their way through the inevitable problems that arise in drawing. I also found it fascinating to see what you could accomplish digitally, and how you went about doing it. Congratulations on the successful completion of this year's challenge!

I think you did a great job again this year, Mark! The prompts were definitely not as interesting to me, as I prefer words that are open to many & multiple interpretations. That said, I enjoyed seeing how you put your character family into this year’s word stories. I especially enjoyed the pieces where you re-interpreted other paintings.

I loved seeing your work from Inktober! "Decomposing" - ha ha. ha. I tried it for the first time this year, and I felt like I got so much out of it! And those books are gorgeous! Do you use a company to do the printing?

Love what you did with those challenging prompts. Inktober Heist is one of my favourites. I'd love to try digital art and bought a pen tablet and downloaded Krita as I can't afford expensive software. That's as far as I got. It's very different to just using pen and pencil and I still haven't learnt the basics. Could you do a video of your digital art process like a beginner video?I also like to know what scanner you recommend. I have an old Epson scanner and it no longer shows previews and is slow and clunky. I only use it to scan my lino prints. But I would like to scan other art work and upgrade to a better scanner.
