I didn't tape down the anchor. Is that gonna interfere with me drawing the picture? Both of them are floating.
@MDCampbell13 сағат бұрын
I'm thinking that taping it down would definitely be preferred, just so things don't shift. However, you can always try it and see what happens, learning how to go forward in the future. I hope it works out for you!! Cheers!

Hi there, @moka2868! Thanks for checking this video out. As for the screen protector, I put the Bellemond on my iPad Pro and haven't taken it off. I really love it. Watching movies, doing generic work or web browsing is fine and without glare. For drawing, I don't think I could go back. The "tooth" of the protector feels like paper and the drag of the Apple Pencil is incredibly natural. I'm happy with the investment and would recommend it again. Hoping you are well! Best wishes! ~ Mark

I believe purging/decluttering isn't a good solution because the way many people use it is to get rid of stuff that are old, untrendy or even cheap... Basically stuff that others don't even want to get... A declutter once or twice is okay, but we should absolutely stop the buying, learn the habit of using items fully (till they're empty) and then buy accordingly to real usage.

I'm another sketchbook kid; drew anime, comics, cartoons, and watever else I felt like growing up, eventually found DrawABox and figured I'd commit to learning more fundamentals. I'm a solid 6.5/10 in terms of skill. Anyone who draws about as well as I do or better has, does, and will trace reference images as means of being efficient while learning mechanically. Like comic book artists typically are fit, but aren't ungodly swole like the characters they draw. They trace body builders/muscle men. Many of them are not architects; they trace buildings. It's just that they don't trace every single thing, just specific areas (Superman's arm; a subway station; trees; animals), and they don't trace them every single time they ever draw it, just when needed for efficiency or for mechanical training.

The first year I did one I started out with different pens and markers but on about the 5th drawing I ditched all the extra stuff and did the rest of it with a 08 Micron. It should be that simple folks. Don't turn it into work, like it's part of your job. It's fun to think of an image for each prompt, and sketch it out with a pen. Keep it simple. You can't find 30 minutes in your day to sketch something small?

I’ve used the Australian made Art Spectrum which are hard and crack and not easy to reconstitute, I bought a few Daniel Smith and so far they are the best, so easy to reconstitute with a bit of water, I’ll be changing over to them. I find the Windsor and Newton very expensive as they are in 5 ml compared to the Daniel Smith for 15mm at the same price.

Wow, I was so glad to see and hear you again, Mark. I dug out an old handmade "rake" nib dip pen that I have never tried out, and to figure out how to use it, your video popped up. I haven't seen you in a long time and I hope you are doing well. I'm using Dr Ph Martin's Bombay black India ink, and it seems to dry out in a few seconds on this pen. The nib is so broad that I find it very difficult to play with. Anyway, just thought I'd say hi and it's good to see you again.

@Ann-ey1tw thank you for taking the time to say hello and think of me/my channel. I'm thrilled to hear you're exploring the old broad nib pen and hope it's working out well. It takes a lot of playing around with to get the hang of some of the more obscure nibs. Even for me, when I haven't worked with them in a while, I have to get back in the groove with them again until it all clicks. Anyhow, things a actually very well on my end and I plan to come back to the channel soon. Just very busy with my job and need to retool my priorities a bit to revisit things I enjoy most. Take care and I hope all is going well on your end, too! Cheers! ~ Mark

I have managed to accumulate dozens of dip pen nibs over the years. Nothing to do with artistic drawing, I can hardly manage a stick figure. They were used for updating marine navigation charts, as well as something to do with meteorology decades ago. Many were due to be thrown out because there was no use for them at modern computer-based meteorological stations. I have Speedballs, including the fude tip calligraphy type, as well as mainly British and Australian nibs. Some of them may be 50 years old. I've seen posts which suggest the Speedballs have a brass section, I'm more inclined to think it's gold as brass would tarnish and my nibs look pristine. I bought some new pens but it seems I need more practice, the fine nibs just dug into the paper and I needed about a dip per word. Also have Rotring and Pelikan pens which were used for navigation charts.

As a kid, color pencils were my comfort tools. I wanted to learn Water Color but it was too hard and confusing for me. I don't get the same level of control compared to color pencils. Most of the time, I just made a mess. But when I discovered Faber Castell, my mind was blown. It's such a genius combination. Instead of struggling with planning the brush strokes, just do everything dry like color pencils and then just add water later. Never going back to regular watercolor!

I'm quite new in my sketching journey and have so far stuck to traditional brushes. For a festival last weekend I decided to have a go with waterbrushes for portability. Struggled with them to be honest. Found it much harder to get nice colour blends somehow, and definitely felt like I was painting 'dryer' than usual. Worse still, I kept ending up with colour filtering back up into handle so I no longer had 'clean' water to start a new colour with. Any tips to get past that?
@MDCampbell4 ай бұрын
@@trevorcoultart good to hear about journey. In all these years I’ve used water brushes, I’ve never had color seep back into the water chamber. Even the ones I store ink in and have let sit for literally years. I’m not sure how that might happen, but my recommendation is to fully blot the brush on a paper towel or some other blotting towel to remove all the color before squeezing the chamber. Most brushes are designed so the chamber is a one way system where water goes out and air comes in. It’s possible if there is too much water in the brush head, but again, I have never had it happen in many years and with many types of brushes. For me, I release water from the tip into a palette, pick up color from the pan using the tip, then dip the tip into the palette water to create the color I’m going to use. I do not squeeze again. Then, when I’m done with that color, I blot the tip until it is dry and THEN squeeze water out from the chamber and blot it again until the tip is clean. Then, for the next color, I repeat the process. I hope that is somewhat helpful for you. Best wishes!! - Mark
@UJB1232 ай бұрын
I've heard, heard mind you, that if you squeeze the brush while directly in the paint, it could backfill due to air suctioning. Never had a brush backfill but then I squeeze it before putting it in the paint.

Hi M.D. I just discovered a set of dip pens from a collection of items my dad kept. I had no idea he had them as he was not an artistic man as far as I know. He enjoyed artistic creations by others more than creating any of his own. But this set includes 2 holders and a set of 9 are what you would call the standard pointed nibs. But a few are bent or flat. Are those damaged or do those shapes serve a purpose?
@ShadowBoxer2 күн бұрын
The bent tip does serve a purpose. Earlier he shows a chart he made to keep track of what nib creates which line variants. Click on 08:30 and you will see a bent nib he has in a nib holder. Hope that helps. Take care. Happy New Year.
