Watched this film with my mum who is a staunch catholic woman who found herself in tears as it's a story that relates to a lot of staunch christian pasifika parents going thru similar stories like lisa and her mum. The heartbreak, the hurt & the humour makes this such a great film to watch. My mum loved it and has been the biggest supporter to her lesbian daughter since the day she came out ❤ Thank u for releasing this film 🥺 Means so much x

As masculine lesbian in a catholic Family this really speaks to me. Being the only lesbian out of my entire family still haven’t come out because I’m scared of the pain I’d cause. Only my parents and siblings know. My father still isn’t happy about it. It takes courage to step out like that I can’t wait till I have it.

As a Polynesian Fafafine this hit home for me in many ways, Its so rare for Poly parents & ppl to be accepting of fafafines/fakaleitis/mahus cuz of the oldschool mindset & bc of whats been instilled to believe is right & wrong. What many ppl dont kno is that The Fafafine was always considered as a 3rd gender in Samoa & it was normal till Christianity came and brainwashed & took away many things from our traditions & cultures. This film showcased what many of us Fafafines experienced just by being ourselves n the hardships that we endure by living our truths instead of living a lie. Many of us since birth even growing up always just KNEW. Nowadays its being protrayed that its an "agenda" being pushed etc etc but folks dont realise this is REAL LIFE for many of us. Everyday we step out we risk our lives just by Being Who We Are. We grow up to always defend our selves & to fight (especially if you were brought up in rough ghetto areas) but regardless of the hardships we stand tall cuz we ALSO are warriors just like our ancestors. I wish more ppl understood us & how we just want to Live our truths. I wish Polynesian parents were more accepting of their gay children & would Love us for who we are & stop worrying about what other people would think of us, For its us who go thru the motions not them. I Love The Allys we have from the supportive brothers & sisters. This is a great film. Alofas from Amelika

Thats crazy that poly parents don't accept the fafafenes considering there's so many, is it just the old school parents cause these generation of parents I feel would be more accepting
@Funnyfamilyvideos123

Christianity didn’t brainwash us 😂 it set us on the right course with God. “Your truth” isn’t objective. Fafafines are to be loved like every other person, I agree but God taught us to love the sinner, not the sin
@Tina-ly3bg
@Tina-ly3bg Жыл бұрын
You can speak for yourself. Can’t speak for all of us. By the way. Christianity didn’t brainwash my culture. They delivered the Good News. In the Tongan culture. Fkleiti doesn’t mean gay. Fkleiti means, a guy acting feminine. Fksotoma means gay. Be gay by yourself. You don’t have to ask the world for acceptance.

Lisa’s mum deserves an award 👏 This was a good watch if only it was a better ending but then again not everything ends in sunshine and rainbows 😅
@ErikFusi-og5bd
@ErikFusi-og5bd Жыл бұрын
The ending is sunshine and rainbows in fact more, the fact that she knows her worth and has got her mum in her corner now is what trumps being together with the school jock. Lisas right there will be plenty more Moses in this world and even if he had a change of heart his intention wasn't genuine. There are no winners or losers here, all lessons. The winners are the older polys who watched this and are opening their minds and gaining better understanding which makes them reflect. This is not a hate post to you just my thoughts. Love will always win

Watching this film was really eye opening I’m religious and a polynesian girl but so much over the years has taught me never to judge others it’s great being able to learn about those who have completely different lives from you,but it’s also sad how people get treated for not being an average joe,i wish for a world where we can all learn from each other and hopefully be able to learn together ❤️

This is far by one off the best real, raw talented Movie's i have seen. This movie needs to be acknowledged not only in Aotearoa but world wide to show our rangatahi and our Indigenous cultures that it is ok to be who you identify as. This generation has a better chance to break through the intergenerational trauma that has effected our parents and there parents etc. I love our generation today to be free to be able to be them selves. We must never forgot those who paved the way for our rights before us and who still continue to fight for Takatapui especially in Aotearoa. Our family may take time to accept us or may not accept dont let that stop you from being you. Education is the key. Our whanau only know what they know its up to us to educate. Kia kaha our Rangatahi don't ever give up!! Well done to the writers director's actors everyone involved. I hope this makes it big!!

I thoroughly enjoyed this Lisa😊. The mothers character reminds me of my mother-in-law who is Tongan. I cried understanding the depth of her love. I resonate with Lisa character because I know and have felt rejection. It is a deep pain. I am a woman but despite this difference, I wouldn’t know how deep it feels for a transgender. 5 ⭐️ for me. Out of 5 of course😊

❣️ Totally love this.... Thankyou Amanaki and crew for telling our story.... I know every one of our whakawahine, fakaleiti, faafafine, sistahood will relate to Lisa in one way or another.... Being Maori, trans from Auckland.... Yuppp, it was pretty confronting, felt like my life was being played out right before me, but the main thing I hope this movie dispells, is the hideous notion that it's a phase or that we choose to be this way.... I mean REALLY??? Who TF REALLY chooses a life where you are the fkn absolute opposite to any societal norms, U are neither this box or that, and pretty much make yourself the target 🎯 on a dartboard each and every day 🤔🙄🤷⁉️ I believe we were all put here for a reason.... Regardless of what man and his religion believes.... What they forget sometimes is that they are not God. Live your lives and treat others as you'd want yourselves or your loved ones to be treated. Simple really ❣️❣️ #AllLivesMatter

Showed this to my mom and cousin, we absolutely loved it. As someone who is poly and lived my adolescence as a girl; this made me so happy to see. I am not trans anymore but that girl is still inside of me. Everything Lisa went through and talks about is exactly how I felt. Times will change and movies like this definitely help girls like us feel seen and less alone + it will show others what life is like. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ Much Love from America 🇺🇸 🇼🇸 I hope to see more!

THANK YOU VERY MUCH, for sharing this on KZbin, yet I would have HAPPILY PAID TO WITNESS IT'S BRILLIANCE!!!!!!!!

Loved this! I want to see more. A second film or maybe turn this into a series. I wanted to see Lisa end up with Mose, or someone better to make Mose jealous and realize what he lost.
