This week’s woodworking joint of the week is the Inlaid Half Blind Dovetail. I walk you through the steps of cutting this very decorative take on traditional joinery, including how to get rid of bulk waste and overcome some of the problems associated with this type of joinery. Used in drawers and box design, this woodworking joint can be used for lots of great woodworking projects. Let me know in the comments what joint you’d like to see next week. Thanks for watching! Please like, comment and subscribe. Cheers!

Jonathan, I can't believe how quickly the dovetail jig arrived all the way to here in rural New Zealand, and it is quite simply, a thing of beauty. As desperate as I am to use it, I can't bring myself to risk damaging that glass like surface with my old saws, so I am forcing myself to await the arrival of the Japanese dovetail saw I ordered from Amazon _before_ I ordered the Dovetail jig. I think you must really care about your subscribers, and it is appreciated.

Hello young man. One of the things I like about you Mr Moses is you show ALL of your mistakes, but as my grand dad said to is You learn from your mistakes. While I look forward to your next take on this joint, I will be happy trying this one out on the start of a very special jewellery box. Take care BIG GUY.

Jonathan Katz-Moses You’re very welcome. Dude, you’re a superstar, you gotta know that already. I wish you weren’t on the other side of the country. I’ve been a carpenter for 30+ years and I wouldn’t think twice about being your helper. That’s saying a whole lot, man. There are only a couple others that I would be in awe of if I had the chance to work in their shop. You are now on that list, at least in my book. (FYI, Paul Sellers and Frank Klausz are on that list, so you’re in legendary company.) Thank you for doing what you do and for sharing it with us.

Love this joint! Hey Johnathan out of the kindness of your heart could you send a dovetail cutting Jig as a sample🤫🙏🙏🙏, I think your sawdust trick is a beauty I’ve done the same but on other joints like mortise and tenon and rebates! Keep those great videos a comin! One thing that make you stand out from any other artist (and I say because your not a tradesman, definitely an artist because you absolutely love what your doing) is that you know how to fix any little mistakes very easily with out any fuss.

That little phrase "woodworking isnt about being perfect its about knowing how to fix your mistakes saved my recent project lol. Its my first project and im using barrel hinges which are a bitch to install correctly and its a very small piece so the slightest offset was noticeable and sure enough i closed it to test the hinge and it was about a 16th of an inch off on each side and i started to panic but then remembered that little phrase. I rasped and sanded the sides till they were flush and it turned out perfect.

My new motto: "Good woodworking, it's not about being perfect, it's about knowing how to fix your mistakes". I'm getting better at fixing my mistakes, so I'm steadily becoming a good woodworker! The thing is, you can't tell anyone that you made a mistake, or show them how it was fixed.

Crazy!! This video is 14 minutes. It would be great to know the actual time that went into this joint. Loving your stuff man, could I ask that when you say your measurements that you please put the metric distance on the screen. @gnarthdarkanen7464 5 жыл бұрын
Most of us (that I know anyway) in the States go by "wrenches" from Metric to SAE sizes... SO we're not always "doing math in our heads" either... A "Short short version" : 13mm = 1/2 inch 6.5mm = 1/4 inch 3.25mm= 1/8 inch 1.7 ish mm = 1/16 inch 12.7mm (technically) = 1/2 inch... but wrenches don't come in .7mm increments... (so this will get you "in the neighborhood" and shorten the math rather than perfectly eliminate it) BUT it's a good place to land approximately where you're going to want to be, even mixing and adding the increments together, so you can still (mostly) eliminate the calculator... AND at some point in all this, YOU are going to have to put down the rulers and start "eyeballing" your precision for fittings, even with the occasional session of "trial and adjustment". It's worth note that Katz-Moses (and a lot of us around YT) have been doing things like this for years, so we've also gone through those motions a LOT in our lives... AND some of us are still doing it that way. Give yourself some chance to breathe and practice. You'll get there with a few sacrificial pieces of scrap and some note-taking from the experience. ANYWAYS... hope this helps out. Please do scratch the numbers down... so then you have them. ;o)
