Excellent video! I've been using a table saw for over fifty years. I've been caught once, with a minor slice needing a few stitches. Getting pretty ancient now, this is just what I need to remind me to be super careful to mitigate my probably misplaced confidence.

Always instructive watching you work - I’ve bought several of your products the flip stop is awesome I even bought another from Tamar at 3x3 custom… I just ordered one of your dovetail cutting lucite jigs-working on my own Moxon vice kit-would love your feedback as I start bringing it all together!

Hey Jon,, the drill press works great for making micro boxes but how do you drill the holes if you are making a larger box of say 12 to 14 inches and keeping them straight for your brass rod?

I seem to recall a very skilled woodworker telling me to use a fat pencil instead of a fine point because a fine point can get into deeper places causing you to chase the lead to the bottom of the groove and cause uneven spots on the project surface. A fat pencil will ride on top of those groves on the high points. Has anyone else heard that?

When is this video format going to just die? I’m sick of it. The “I’m going to explain what we’re going to do, before I show you how I came up with the plan for what we’re going to do, before finally doing the thing I said I’d show you how to do” format. Alternatively, the “let me first explain everything I spent the last two days working on before showing you an entire weekend’s worth of footage that our editor compressed into a 30-second montage, all while generic, soft-core electric guitar instrumentals play over the scene” technique is really overplayed too. It reeks of cheap Discovery Channel “reality” television from the early 2010’s: Pimp My Ride, Pawn Stars, American Chopper, etc. Woodworking videos seem to be the worst offenders, but I admit I don’t watch much crochet or scrapbooking videos; this format could be just as widely used in other areas of interest. But please, let’s move away from this stale and obnoxious way of making videos! As soon as the long-winded explanation starts I know I’m about to hear some painfully cliche guitar riffs and my interest immediately wanes. P.S. Don’t take offense. This is by no means a criticism of the content of the video. It was actually really helpful and you clearly are a great teacher. I’m just tired of this approach to producing KZbin videos in general. Maybe not the place to go on a rant about the topic, but I had to get that out. Hope you understand. Thanks for the great info!

Are these SawStop approved? I ask since I noticed these blades have an anti-kickback shoulder, which I believe can prevent sawstops safety brake to not be as effective.

Damn, I have the Makita. I got it a few years ago. I love Makita tools and have a lot of batteries so I got that one. It does work well but I find setting the depth painful. Didn’t realize how bad it was compared to others. Unfortunately it is hard to justify buying something else like the Dewalt and then have to get into another battery system. I already have 18v Makita and m12 Milwaukee and really don’t want a 3rd.

At the end of the fence. That’s the distance between your pivot screw and adjustment point in the five cut calculations.

I love how the grain on the lid. Looks like land and sky. It goes so incredibly well. With the flying baller. To me it looks like someone drew it on purpose. I'm fairly certain that if you flip the background upside down. It goes from 10/10 to looks good.

Jonathan, you are simply the best. I've been sharpening my card scraper since my first few woodworking classes almost four years ago .... doing it the hard way. I was listening to a podcast recently where someone mentioned the method using a file to start the process. I went on KZbin today to find that method. Watched a couple of other ones and then saw yours. As usual, you make it fun, have the best camera angles, and are SO GOOD at explaining everything with just the right amount of detail. THANK YOU!

Don't use the saws too far off the track ends, as the tightening ''tabs'' are pretty close to the end of saw, so if you push it too far off the track end, it can starts to get loose and you will damage the tracks plastic bit and quality of the cut.

I've modified the adjustment mechanism for the 5-cut method. Instead of a screw for the non-pivot end of the fence (JKM's left hand side), I drill a 1/4" hole with a long bit through the sled and fence. With a small forstner I make a recess pocket on the sled bottom for a long, but smaller diameter, machine screw. The recess pocket is deep enough to allow the sled to slide without the screw head scratching the table. A wing nut and washers secure the machine screw on the top. (Threaded rod may be necessary in lieu of a long machine screw, especially with a tall fence.) The smaller-diameter machine screw, leaves enough space to make the micro adjustments. If you are lucky and find square the first adjustment, it's probably excessive. But for adjustments #2 and #3 for the compulsive among us, it is a gift. For the ultra-compulsive, here's a tip with the fence glue-up as well. Instead of a clamped builder's level to insure straightness, I glue up the three fence pieces on a paper-protected saw table and add weight to avoid minimize twist or cup. This may add accuracy to the two-dimensional straight line created using the builder's level. It too, may be unnecessary, but if you're "one of those"...
