First time viewer here. I work in the medical field already as a Health Information Technician (not a coder) which I do audits and medical records review. I have experience with coding when I was in college finishing up my Health Information Technology degree. I am here because i am interested in medical billing, and in general the whole and many opportunities of RCM in healthcare.

So I just finished my medical billing and coding course and received my license after passing the NHA exam. Upon looking into jobs, I realized I need more experience. I have no prior medical experience. What are other courses or education that I can receive in conjunction with CBCS? Also I learned a lot about insurance claims, EOB, AR, claims, hipaa, etc.. yet I feel like I don’t know what anything will actually look like on the job. Is there anything you can show us that will be on the job that is related to CBCS? Like programs, forms, job tasks, how claims will look, etc. idk if I’m just overthinking but would like to feel more confident. thank you!!!

In my opinion, this is a hard field to break into. I had this same issue years ago, I got a MB&C certificate and never got a position doing it, they all wanted experienced. It would be helpful if someone made a video on how to actually get an entry level position in this field, if there is such a thing. I still plan on taking the course again and giving it a second chance

Ask places if you can intern and after they sometimes offer a job. Or a foot in the door is working as a receptionist

Fantastic advice thank you guys so much for replying. I would say the same there’s a couple of recent videos/shorts that we’ve done related to exactly this topic of how to break into the field of medical billing. I would check those out and join our Facebook group so you can communicate with more billers and get tips on how they got their foot in the door.

I took medical billing and coding but it did not go into the billing aspect of it. I took the MBCS exam and passed. I will be taking my CPC soon. I have no idea how to start in an office. I have no experience and I can't get any with out working in an office. Very frustrating.

Thank you so much for your comment! I completely understand your frustration. There are some medical billing companies that you might be able to work as an intern or an entry level position. I would suggest that you join our medical billers network Facebook group to network & possibly offer your support/services in there.

Can you help with which dx codes to bill when a patient with Medicare has a check-up- not an annual wellness or a child well check but a physical ..Maybe the patient came in for a follow-up... The providers always bill an E/M with Z00.00!!! This will not get paid but everywhere I look on the medicare website and with numerous calls to Medicare I cannot figure this out.

The range is quite wide in the US and would depend on the geographich location, experience, role and level of responsibility. I would say average range between 45 - 70k per year
