As a former biker chick, I was wondering that, too! I'd worry about maneuverability, though. My leather chaps might not work for quick maneuvering for skating and do not offer full protection. (Chaps = no protection in buttocks / crotch area, even as the leather slows me down walking. Full-protection pants ar available, though, and might work better.) Your typical biker jacket -- leather or synthetic materials w/ specialized safety pads -- do not lend themselves well to quick maneuverability, due to the padding having a bit too good of an armor effect, in my experience. They are also heavy, for obvious reasons. ;)

I wear under clothing armour from Xion when ice skating. Most people don’t know it’s their. For inlining I wear external arm and knee pads with plastic shields to protect my joints and clothes.

I'm always expecting bad advice with DH tutorials, but you made a solid video here, Ricardo. It's good to see people in the comments interested in starting and for the right reasons; that is, not getting led astray by people without helmets or less than ideal DH setups. Thumbs up.

Fun video with good tips! My tips are first to prerun course and learn of the tight or dangerous turns. Always keep your speed under control! It's easier and safer to keep your speed down vs try to slow down when speed your gets too high and out of control. Air brake with arms straight and pointing down close to your body with hands and fingers closed or slightly cupped. Expert tip in a tuck position with both hands together behind your back like a speed skater, cross your thumbs with all fingers closed and together in a line to make a wind spoiler to add or reduce wind drag, with hands and fingers curved up it will increase drag slow speed a little and give more stability going through a turn, with fingers in straight streamline position off your back you will go faster with less drag but less stability. I believe downhill skating is extreme skating, my rule is. if you can't skate up the hill, you're not ready to skate down it. Peace and Aloha

i got some experience as longboarder, alltough i never really got into downhill. Here's what i know: 1. the pucks on gloves are a thing from longboarding. the professional ones are made from teflon and are very slippery. they are very helpful because you can keep a hand on the floor to stabilize and shift your center of mass (like an extra wheel oustide of your board). it's necessary for introducing a slide (drifting). You can make them super cheap from plastic cutting borads you find in any supermarket. 2. Full face helmets are always to be preferred. you don't want to fall with no protection for your face. Without, you will suffer more than just a broken nose. motorcyclists can relate. 3. For aerodynamics and body protection longboarders use motorcycle suits. 4. Wheels. Harder wheels have the least grip. skateboard wheels are supper slippery and hard to control. soft wheels have high grip, feel super soft for cruising and have more friction, but for downhill might be to slippery as well. so for downhill it's something in between. 5. Experience. Dont go downhill before being capable of properly braking. downhill is extremly dangerous. when the longboard hype was on it's peak, i frequently heard of deaths, especially in argentina.

I have some pretty steep hills near my house. If they aren’t steep they are long and you build up speed anyway. I stupidly went on basically all of them with the only stopping technique being running off on grass. Maybe don’t do that.

Soft will give you more grip for a tight course and hard compound will give a greater rolling speed but less grip more for courses that have more less demanding turns and longer straights but you will feel every ripple on the surface more.

@RicardoLino7 жыл бұрын
at those speeds we don´t have a abs system..so its either using a braking system that some of the top downhill skaters use.. or the carving to slow you down..other then that will always be with one or both feet dragging and killing wheels..

As a motorcyclist, I gotta say if you're expecting to go over 30mph regularly & you're going downhill so you're not pushing, consider a motorcycle racing 1-piece. You'll have armour at the elbows, hips, knees & spine, and leather protecting you from road rash, which can strip the skin right off you to the meat if you're going fast. It's hot, of course, but you drop a degree for every 10mph you go.
